Title: The Lens and the Looker
Series: The Verona Trilogy #1
Author: Lory S. Kaufman
Publisher: Sands of Time Publishing
Pub Date: March 2011
Pages: 322

About the book:

It’s the 24th century and humans, with the help of artificial intelligences (A.I.s), have finally created the perfect post-dystopian society. To make equally perfect citizens for this world, the elders have created History Camps, full sized recreations of cities from Earth’s distant pasts. Here teens live the way their ancestors did, doing the same dirty jobs and experiencing the same degradation. History Camps teach youths not to repeat the mistakes that almost caused the planet to die. But not everything goes to plan.

In this first of a trilogy, we meet three spoiled teens in the year 2347. Hansum almost 17, is good looking and athletic. Shamira, 15, is sassy, independent and an artistic genius. Lincoln, 14, is the smart-aleck. But you don’t have to scratch too far beneath the surface to find his insecurities.

These three “hard cases” refuse the valuable lessons History Camps teach. But when they are kidnapped and taken back in time to 1347 Verona, Italy, they only have two choices; adapt to the harsh medieval ways or die. The dangers are many, their enemies are powerful, and safety is a long way away. It’s hardly the ideal environment to fall in love – but that’s exactly what happens. In an attempt to survive, the trio risks introducing technology from the future. It could save them – or it could change history.

About the Book:

What could go wrong in the 14th-century for three time-traveling teens? How about – EVERYTHING!

Hansum, Shamira and Lincoln, three teens from the 24th-century, are trapped in 14th-century Verona, Italy. They’ve survived many deadly experiences by keeping their wits about them and by introducing futuristic technology into the past. Principal among these inventions is the telescope, which brought them to the attention of the rich and powerful.

But standing out can get you into unexpected – situations. The nobles of Verona now believe Hansum is a savant, a genius inventor, especially after he brings them plans for advanced cannons and black powder. Being the center of attention is great, but the potential for trouble is now exponentially greater because people are watching Hansum’s every move.

Meanwhile, artistic genius Shamira has fallen for a Florentine artist with bloody and disastrous consequences. Lincoln, considered an incompetent back home in the 24th-century, has blossomed – at least until he’s shot in the head with an arrow. And Hansum, after secretly marrying his new master’s beautiful daughter, Guilietta, is offered the hand in marriage of lady Beatrice, daughter of the ruler of Verona. To refuse could mean calamity for all the teens.

Amazingly, none of this is their biggest challenge. Because a rash illness is spreading across Verona – and it is threatening to consume everyone. Do they have a future in this past?

About the book:
A quest for lost love. An adventure of many lifetimes.

Hansum, Shamira and Lincoln are three 24th-century time travelers desperate to return to 14th-century Verona and reclaim their medieval family’s shattered lives. It is a mission fraught with danger and the risk of unexpected consequences for themselves and their worlds. For all three, it is a matter of the heart. For one, though, it is truly the only thing that matters, as the fate of his eternal love and the life of their unborn child is the prize to be won – or lost forever.

In this, the final book of The Verona Trilogy, our three time travelers go on the boldest adventure of their lives. They will face hardship, tragedy, and threats from sources they couldn’t have imagined – all in an effort to wrestle a future from the steely grip of an unforgiving past.

I was going to do separate reviews of the books but instead decided to put it all into one post.

I was lucky enough to get the books a few months ago so I was able to sit back and enjoy the books without feeling rushed. One of the great things about taking part in this tour is being able to read one book right after the other and not having to wait for them to come out.

I really enjoyed reading the three books considering this isn’t a genre I read a lot of. The books consist of time traveling.  The story takes place in Medeval l Italy in the 24th century and the year is 2347

Three teenagers (Hansum, Shamira and Lincoln) are being forced to attend History Camp due to their behavior and this is their punishment. So the purpose of the history camps are to make young people about hard labour and behavior. Hmm I wonder if that exists somewhere in the world because there area  few people I would love to send there.

These history camps normally work but not for these three and they are then forced to go to an Total Immersion History Camp and they back to the 14th century (1347) and live in Italy where they will be taught to behave and respect people.  Things are always different then they were then right?

I think these three were hell bent on being disruptive and at times I wanted to reach in and slap the backs of the heads. They didn’t appreciate anything in my opinion and they reminded me so much of people that I know today who think the world owes them.

Each book picks up where the previous one ended which I really enjoyed because it all flowed and didn’t leave me wondering what had happened.

I thought Lory did a great job with the story line and didn’t make it feel like this was a too far fetched series. I felt like I was learning something every time I read the book. A little history lesson so to speak.

I think the older group of kids would really enjoy reading this series and I think it would make a perfect summer read. The only down part is that they might zip through this rather quickly. I probably could have zipped through this one but I wanted to take my time because there was a lot of information.

I don’t want to get to much into my review because I am sure I will spoil it.

TEN YEARS AGO ONE DEVASTATING NIGHT CHANGED EVERYTHING FOR AUSTIN, HUNTER AND ALEX. NOW THEY MUST EACH PLAY THEIR PART IN THE REVENGE AGAINST THE ONE MAN WHO RUINED IT ALL.

With ruthless determination, Alex Diaz has risen up from his deprived roots to become the head of a global media empire. But he has one last thing to achieve…avenge his friend by destroying the man responsible for her death, Jason Treffen. With stunning talk-show host Chelsea Maxwell about to interview Treffen live on TV, this is Alex's chance.

He'll use her show to exact a very public revenge—and seducing Chelsea, if needed, would certainly be no hardship. But he underestimates Chelsea and the attraction between them, and as their relationship deepens, Alex realizes that to annihilate Treffen could also shatter the life that Chelsea has built to protect herself….

I received this book for free from publisher/pr firm in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

This is the last book in the Fifth Avenue Trilogy. This has been a really fun series to read and I am a little sad that it has/is ending.

One of the good things about reading this series is, its exposed me (to pun intended) to three different authors and their books that I might not have been exposed to since I don’t read alot of romance books.

I should let you know that Expose Me won’t be available to purchase until the end of July. I was graciously provided and ARC of the book for my honest and sincere review as part of the tour for this series.

Expose me is about Alex and how he plans to bring down Jason for what he has done to Katy and he is determined to make Jason pay for all that he has done.

I loved Alex because he wasn’t born rich like his friends were and he basically crawled his way to like his wealthy friends. Alex is now a famous journalist and is the head a  global media company. He worked hard to get where he is today.

When Alex finds out that Jason will be interviewed by talk show host Chelsea, Alex takes it upon himself to seduce Chelsea. Thinking what better way to get his revenge then publicly in front a nation full of viewers. Sounds like a revenge plan to me. He will do anything to make sure Jason even if it means sleeping with Chelsea. Will he have to go that far?

One thing I liked about Chelsea was that you she didn’t take Alex’s word and he literally had to get proof before she would even think about helping him. Will Alex find the proof that she needs?

When Chelsea meets with Jason to go over the interview she is forced to sign a document stating she was only allowed to ask certain questions. I think Chelsea is beginning to realize that Jason is hiding something and this is his way of making sure nothing comes of it. This blows Alex’s plan out the water because you can see that at this point he is starting to care about Chelsea and thinks about risking her career just for revenge.

I liked Chelsea and how there was more to her then meets the eye. She is like Alex and didn’t have it easy growing up and you can see she put up the walls around her to protect herself. She was okay with it being her secrets but when she is with Alex she thinks its time to finally let someone in. Will she tell Alex her secrets?

I just want to send out a huge thank you to Harlequin books for sending me all three copies in the Fifth Avenue Trilogy to read and review. Another huge thank you to Meryl L. Moss Media for reaching out to ask me if I would like to participate on this book tour and for the little gift bag you sent to me.

TEN YEARS AGO ONE DEVASTATING NIGHT CHANGED EVERYTHING FOR AUSTIN, HUNTER AND ALEX. NOW THEY MUST EACH PLAY THEIR PART IN THE REVENGE AGAINST THE ONE MAN WHO RUINED IT ALL.

Hunter Talbot Grant III, sports figure du jour, wealthy beyond measure and disreputable by choice, has cultivated a reputation that masks the shadows of his past. When the opportunity to ensure financial destruction for Jason Treffen arises, he can't refuse. But first he must shake off the woman sent to tame him!

Zoe Brook, PR agent extraordinaire, never fails to transform a tarnished star. And Hunter's no different. Except there's a catch. Beneath their scorching mutual attraction, Zoe has a secret—she's also been on the wrong side of Jason Treffen, and she has as much of a taste for revenge as Hunter does!

I received this book for free from publisher/pr firm in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Scandalize Me is the second book in the Fifth Avenue trilogy and this one is written by Caitlin Crews who is another new to me author who has written several other romance books.

It was on her site http://www.caitlincrews.com  that I noticed that the UK covers for this series is different from the US ones. The only difference is that on the bottom of the cover there is various scenes from NYC and I am honestly tempted to try and order them online just for that. Is that crazy of me?

I just want to let you know that Scandalize Me isn’t out yet and it won’t be released until June 24th. I was given an ARC of the book for my review today as part of the blog tour for this new series.

In Scandalize Me we meet Hunter. I think Hunter to date is the ultimate bad boy. He comes from a wealthy family but in his own means is wealthy himself. It was always thought that that he would end up running the family business but instead went the way of an NFL career. Hunter has moved back to NYC after being kicked out the NFL and is going through numerous lawsuits. Hunter is alone as he is estranged from his family and has basically pushed all his friends away. To get through life he has numbed himself and would prefer to keep it that way.

I think all this pain he has, has to deal with Sarah and her suicide. Sarah and Hunter use to date until she called it off and like any typical guy he thought the reason why she ended their relationship was because of another guy. This is probably where Sarah was in with  Jason. When Sarah tried to get Hunter to help her he ignored her and since that day this has been a burden on him. We all go through the what ifs right?

Just like in the previous book, a girl enters the scene and her name is Zoe. Her entering the scene is much different then the previous one because she has purposely hunted down Hunter. She lets him think that she is there to change is image but Hunter knows something isn’t right. Hunter is determined to keep things as is and feels that he isn’t worth saving or changing. But you can see gradually he is intrigued by her and wants to know what is really up.

Yes there is more to Zoe then Hunter realizes and what will he do when he finds out? Will Hunter and Zoe team up wot plot their revenge on Jason?

TEN YEARS AGO ONE DEVASTATING NIGHT CHANGED EVERYTHING FOR AUSTIN, HUNTER AND ALEX. NOW THEY MUST EACH PLAY THEIR PART IN THE REVENGE AGAINST THE ONE MAN WHO RUINED IT ALL.

Austin Treffen was born into a world of privilege, but behind its gilded doors lies a corruption so sordid New York's elite would never believe it—especially as his infamous philanthropic father is at its core! With everything he believed in shattered, how can Austin take down his father—risking his family name and those he loves—without any proof?

Until one earth-shattering night with Katy Michaels unlocks not only their deepest, most passionate desires but also the key to bringing Jason Treffen's reign to an end. But with an intense sexual attraction that combines a heady mix of exquisite pleasure and sublime pain, will they satiate their thirst for revenge and each other…or lose themselves forever in the darkness?

I received this book for free from publisher/pr firm in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

If you are a every day reader of my blog you know that I don’t read alot of romance books and honestly for me its not a genre I read alot of and that is a personal choice but every once in awhile there is that one romance book that I really want to read and I do.

This is the case today, tomorrow and Wednesday when I will be reviewing all three books in the Fifth Avenue series that is being released by Harlequin in June, July and August.

With this trilogy there is three different authors writing each characters story but they are all connected. How do I feel about that well you will just have to wait till I finish the series. I am actually kind of happy that I am on this tour because I don’t have to wait until August to share my thoughts on that with you.

When I first got asked to be a part of the tour I quickly hopped on board because they all take place in my absolute favorite city…..New York City. After reading Avenge Me I quickly missed NYC and it makes me yearn to go back very soon. Sadly I don’t think May 2015 will come fast enough.

When I went looking to to see if Maisey wrote any other books I noticed that she wrote the prequel Take Me. Take Me tells the story  before the trilogy starts. Its currently available for free in the kindle store. Now do you have to read this before the series probably not but for me its always a must only because I like to know as much as I can from the characters.

So before doing this review I have never read anything by Maisey so its nice to go into a book with a clean slate with no expectations. Well let me say once I started reading her books I was quickly impressed and really enjoyed reading her stories.

This was a pretty quick read and I managed to read it pretty much in one sitting with a span of a few hours.

In Avenge Me (book one) we meet Austin Treffen. He is a very successful business man and lawyer. He comes from a very wealthy family and he has worked hard for his own wealth. Looking at Austin you think he has the world by the neck but on the inside he is struggling with the the past. Ten years ago one of his very best friends committed suicide and he didn’t do all that he should have done at the time. The worst part the person he looked up to and admired is the person responsible.

Ten years ago Austin was a spoiled rich boy who only cared about himself and he was one of the biggest playboys back then. When his friend, Sarah came to him with her problems and needed help be basically didn’t give a damn. It was all about him and no one else which I think is typical with most young people right?

Well fast forward ten years later Austin discovers that his father, Jason, who is also a very successful lawyer and a big advocate for abused women is actually the one behind Sarah’s death. On the outside he is this great man who is doing all that he can for people and these abused women. He was too good to be true in my opinion but then we learn his deep dark secrets. Can you imagine what it could be?

I wanted to put myself in the book and shot the father because I disliked him with a passion. How can someone who claims to be a big advocate for abused women abuse women? When Austin discovers this it makes him sick to his stomach and he has  sworn he will do anything and everything to make sure his father pays for what he has done.

Enter Katy. A very beautiful girl who has an instant attraction with Austin. Katy had the exact opposite up bringing to Austin. So you can see why Katy wants to avenge her sister’s suicide. At first Katy  and Austin have no clue how each one is tied to the other and when they find out, will that change anything or just bring them closer?

I am looking forward to seeing  how this storyline will play out over the next two books.

Has anyone else read this book?

For Grace and her four best friends, magic is just harmless fun—until it's not...

Things have gone wrong for Grace, Jenny, Rachel, Adie, and Una. Very wrong. A freak snowstorm stranded the whole school, the history teacher's gone bonkers, and their notebook has taken on a diabolical life of its own, bringing all of their previously failed spells to life. At first the girls are thrilled to see their magic finally working.

But the spells are botched and people might get hurt and Una's not acting quite right...

Can the girls stop the madness before the demon notebook works through their list of spells, slowly creeping towards the last, truly awful spell that they didn't really want to happen?

I received this book for free from publisher/pr firm in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

The Demon Notebook is Erika McGann’s debut novel. It was first released September 2012 and Sourcebooks has aquired the rights for it in the US. This is the first book in the series and the second one is called The Broken Spell..never look back. I don’t know when Sourcebooks plans on releasing this but hopefully soon.

Growing up my grandmother taught me two things: 1) be careful for what you wish for and 2) never to dabble with witch craft because you will be playing with a force that is much stronger then you. I have to say that I never dabbled with witch craft because I have seen way to many movies and they scared the life out of me. I know they are just movies but when you are younger (early tweens/teens) its pretty scary stuff.

When five friends named Grace, Jenny, Adie, Rachel and Una find a spell book called The Great Book of the Occult the girls can’t help but dabble into some spells such as making making Andrew pee is his pants in french class, making a teacher speak gibberish in history class, Grace’s spell for having James like her and want to be with her (I admit when I was in school I thought of doing this but figured it would never work so never even tried it)  and the list goes on and on. These spells never worked and the girls don’t understand why so they decide to up the antie a little and move on the the Ouiji board.

So with a plan to make this work they decide to use the school during career night because thats when the full moon is happening. I think at first the girls thought it wouldn’t work but when it did they got a little freaked out and honestly would could blame them, I know had it been me I would have freaked out and probably ran for dear life.

The board gives the girls a latin phrase which is basically your wish is my commend. The girls have their book of failed spells and before they know it the book is being flipped out and the pages are being flipped like someone is quickly reading it. They don’t really think much of it until the next day in school when all those failed spells start to work, Andrew pees is his pants in french class, there is a bizarre snow storm that forces the kids to spend the night in school, James is chasing down Grace because he likes her and sadly she is not feeling this. The girls notice that the most recent spells are being done and who ever it is is going down the list.

The girls panic because the very first spell is the worst of them all. They need to stop this before it happens. Will the girls be able to before its too late?

Will the girls be able to save one of their own before the demon takes over?

This was a quick read. I enjoyed it but I don’t think Michael would because I think he would find it a little scary. He did say that the cover was neat and wanted to know what I was reading and I asked him if he would be interested in reading it and he politely told me no thank you.

SummerReadingChallenge2014

This is Jessica Hickam’s debut novel. I have to say that I love the cover. Isn’t it so pretty?

Just a heads up that the book is only coming out in two weeks and I highly suggest you get your hands on it when it does come out because this is another book that is perfect for reading this summer by the pool.

When I set out to look for summer reads my books have to have some romance, some action and adventure and a little mystery so you don’t know what is coming or when its coming and The Revealed hit this on the head. I really enjoyed reading The Revealed. It sucked me in right from the very start.

I should let you know that this is a YA Dystopian book.

The USA has been devasted by a war and close to 5 billion people have been killed. The USA doesn’t look like it use to. States have been destroyed with only a few remaining.

Lily has two things against her, she is the daughter of  one of the most powerful men in the world (her father is running for President) who is trying to rebuild and she is 18 years old which means she has been targeted by The Reveals. The Reveals have been formed in the past 5 years and they have been targeting 18 year olds and they are never seen again. The Reveals have spell powers from snapping their fingers to cause fires, to flicking their wrists to cause powerful winds.

Who are these people? Why are the targeting 18 year olds? Where are they going? Will Lily get away before its too late?

Since turning 18 Lily has been confined to her house with no real contact from the outside world. Her parents have locked her in for her own protection but Lily being Lily just wants to live her life and not live in constant fear. So she slowly begins to count the days down until her 19th birthday when she will be safe and sound. Although its hard for her to do when she is being left constant reminders from The Reveal. Lily knows that The Reveals will get to her no matter what and she just wants to live what little life she can before they get her. I mean can you blame her?

My big question was how are they getting those notes to Lily when is she is suppose to be safe and secure in her own house with guards and camera around? Are the notes being left by someone who works for the family? I was always questioning that because really how else are they getting there?

As the story progresses Lily goes through betrayal and loss and she’s not sure who she can trust but through it all Kai who Lily has known when she was younger has become her closest ally. After first I have to say that I didn’t trust him and kept feeling he was up to something. He came off as a bad boy but it was nice to see that relationship progress considering he didn’t like her in the beginning.

I really enjoyed the book and I think this would have been a book I would have picked up on my own because of the cover and I am really thrilled to have discovered a new author. I am excited to read the next book when it comes out.

mythoughts1banner

This is the second book in The Danaan Trilogy.  I absolutely love the cover for this book. What do you think?

I have been trying to figure out when the third book will be coming out but haven’t found anything yet and I am super curious and excited because I need to know how this series will end. So many cliff hangers and unanswered questions.

I was lucky enough to have the chance to read both the first and second book one right after the other which I really love but sucks when you don’t have the third one yet… hopefully soon.

Stone of Destiny begins right where The Forgotten Ones ended which I love as its seems like I was reading just one book. You really need to read this series in order so if you are thinking of buying them do so together.

I really enjoyed the book and my review will be a short one because I am afraid it will be full of spoilers and I don’t want to do that because I want you to go and buy the books.

Most of Stone of Destiny takes place in The Tuatha De Danaan and the book starts with a bang with non stop action.

Allison has hopes that perhaps now that her father is back that there can be some sort of reunion between her parents but there is one person standing in the way and its Aoife (Liam’s ex). She is determined not to let them have that happy family and she will stop and nothing to make sure that doesn’t happen.

With Allison being submerged into this new reality for her she realizes that she must just go with the flow and it is what is no matter what. She has come to terms with her feelings and realizes its now or never with Ethan and when she lets him know he is the jerk but I think that is due to the fact he was being forced to go against what he was feeling due to the powers of Aoife.

I really enjoyed reading this and can’t wait for book 3 to come out, which I hope is very soon cause I need to know what is happening.

Does anyone have any good recommendations for books with fae’s? If so please list them as I would love to check them out.
