Review/ Never Apart

I quickly want to thank Chapter by Chapter Blog Tours for allowing me to be a part of the blog tour for this book today and for sending me a e-copy of the book so that I could read it for my honest and sincere review.

Romily Bernard is the author of several books but this was my introduction into her books and I have to say that after reading this I am very curious about her other books and I will have to check them out. That is the one great thing about being able to review books and/or taking part in blog tours because you always find someone you have never read before and end up loving the books.

I have to say right away I love the cover its so bright and it grabs your attention with the color alone and I think if I saw this in the bookstore I would more then likely pick it up based on the cover.

I pretty much devoured this book with two days or so because I was hooked right away but this mystery/thriller aspect of the book. I love reading books that you just can’t put down because you need to know what happens next and this was the case. I was I was capable of staying up all night to read but those days are long gone.

When I was reading this I kept getting that Groundhog Day movie in my head because this is basically that kind of storyline.

Our main character Grace is a typical seventeen year old.  Grace is in love with Ander her best friendwho just happens to be her twin brother’s best friend. Grace and Ander have always felt this connection so its just logical they are together. Grace is living in an alternate reality where she keeps on reliving the same five days over and over again. She is completely clueless on how this actually happened and she just wants to stop reliving those five days over and over again especially since she can’t see to change things to fix it.

So basically Grace and Ander are in a rush to find each other and try to escape from Finn who is going to kill Ander. This keeps repeating and they don’t know how to change it until the last time. In the last fall Ander doesn’t know who Grace is (unlike all the previous ones he knew who she was) and Grace is completely baffled to what happened this time and is trying to figure it all out before its too late.

This is told in Grace’s point of view and it alternate between her life before the first fall to the current one. I wasn’t sure about this but within a few chapters I enjoyed it and it did make sense.

Do you think you could handle living in a alternate reality? I don’t think I could handle living a day or even five days over and over again knowing what the outcome will be. Could you?

When Brie’s stepfather moves the family for what he calls a new beginning, it’s not the new beginning the beautiful, yet guarded, senior would have hoped for. Brie is instantly targeted by jealous girls at her new school, and the only available seat on her bus is next to the school’s star wide receiver, Jake, who for some reason, finds her offensive. After a humiliating article and picture of Brie is posted in the online school journal, a demon she thought she’d overcome resurfaces, and her life unravels. A newly compassionate Jake has finally taken an interest in her, but can Brie learn to trust her heart, or will she miss out on the best thing that ever happened to her?

Jake has his own secrets and has built his own walls, but eventually his curiosity about the new girl gets the best of him. Unfortunately, now there is competition: the captain of her cross-country team. Jake’s romantic histories with the girl next door and the school’s queen bee, adds tension to a simmering tempest when all he wants is Brie. Is he strong enough to help the one he loves weave sense into her crumbling new reality while overcoming his own tainted past? This is an edgy YA with issues of bullying, self harm, and attempted suicide…with an HEA ending.

About Peyton:

As a child, Peyton called places like Livorno, Italy; Orléans, France; and Augsburg, Germany home. She has since settled in Maryland, where she earned her degree in education at Towson State University, married her sweetheart of two years, and became an instant mother to three spirited young boys before adding another son to the brood. And, with their yellow lab George, it’s no stretch to say she’s outnumbered.

When not writing, Peyton is a full time teacher. Inspired by the individual spirits, heartaches, and triumphs of her students, Peyton has developed characters who resemble real world teens dealing with real issues: relationships, jealousy, bullying, and depression. Her newest novel, Sublime Karma, is a contemporary

story filled with emotion, depth, wit, and suspense. Sublime Karma was published in the fall of 2016 by Soulmate Publishing.

When asked if she actually involves her students in her stories, Peyton answered that her stories are completely fictional, but then admitted to an activity in which she does involve them. “One quirky, fun thing I like to do with students who have read my book is develop a dream cast for my characters. That all started when a group of girls were arguing over which actor they thought best fit the character Four in Veronica Roth’s novel Divergent. They then turned their efforts to my manuscript.  I’ve since added those dream casts to my website.”

When she’s not teaching or writing, Peyton enjoys traveling. The Caribbean Islands have become a favorite vacation getaway for Peyton and her husband. “Nothing is better than sitting on a beach, in front of the crystal clear sea, enveloped in the warmth of the tropical sun with a frosty piña colada and a good book that I just can’t put down.”

The bus snaked its way through the country roads and then to the lavish development that backed up to the woods behind his house. Upperclassmen from this neighborhood had their own cars. This bus collected the underclassmen: those few who weren’t chauffeured, as minions of the privileged.

Jake leaned back in his seat and folded his arms across his chest, not looking at the kids coming down the aisle. None dared to ask if they could sit in the empty space next to him. They’d sit three to a seat rather than make that request. Just the way he wanted it.

The over-filled bus pulled to a stop midway down Belmont Circle. New stop? Jake looked out his window at the estate with a circular drive. Huh. It finally sold. He watched as a single figure headed toward the bus. What, so now they get door-to-door service? He rolled his eyes.

Seconds later, she stood in the aisle waiting. From his seat, his eyes skimmed up passed her faded jeans and plain, loose sweater, and his breath caught in his throat. Her long blond hair was pulled to the side in a loose braid. Her face? Ethereal. But then, his flustered gaze became an annoyed glare.

Her bleak gray eyes seemed to look right through him before they darted to the space next to him. Did she even register his indignation? She must have. Yet, she stood there in the aisle twisting the loose adjustment strap on her backpack tightly around her fingers.

“May I sit here?” her meek voice broke the silence that had fallen around them.

Noticing the hush of conversation, Jake’s eyes skimmed the crowded bus. There was no doubt he and this new girl had an audience. Not something he relished.

His eyes swept back to her. He could tell she was nervous. He heard it in her quavering voice and saw it in the way she avoided his eyes. He could just say no. But so long as she was standing, the bus wouldn’t budge.

Before beginning my review I quickly just have to thank Jaime at Rockstar Book Tour for allowing me to be a part of this tour and for sending me a e-copy of the book so that I could give you my honest and sincere review of it.

This was another book I really enjoyed reading and it was a pretty quick read.

Sublime Karma is written in third person which I am not a big fan of but it worked for this book. Its also told in two points of view of our main characters Brie, who is the new girl at school and by Jake who is the football player at the school.

In the very beginning of the book Jake just rubbed me the wrong way and it was due to the fact that I think he thought he was all that and that he was the best. He is the football player and he is in a band called Sublime Karma so that alone I think he comes off a bit cocky. As the story progress I grew to like him.

I really liked Brie even though she was shy. She was the new girl in school and I think she just wanted to blend in but sadly that didn’t happen because she attracted the attention of the popular girls and before long she is being bullied by them and it was rough to read that because you don’t want to see anyone being picked on and sadly its happening more and more in today’s schools.

This new beginning that Brie’s family was hoping to get didn’t go as plan and as scared as Brie was she soon realized that things were going to get a lot worse before they got any better. She is guarded and doesn’t let people in because she has secrets that she would rather keep to herself. What will happen when people find out?

One of the things that left me a little disappointed was I felt like I ended the book missing something, but hopefully there is a book two that can wrap all the loose ends up. Will there be a book two?

After reading this I realized that looking back I think my high school days, yes even though we had issues and drama were nothing compared to what they are today and I don’t think knowing what I know I could be in a high school environment again.

Before beginning my review I quickly just want to thank Lola’s Blog Tours for allowing me to be a part of the blog tour for Always With You and for sending me a copy of the book to read for the tour stop.

One of the best things about taking part in blog tours is getting to read books you have never heard about before until seeing it in your email and this was the case this time around. This is a new book for me and the same with the author. I have to say that after reading this I am curious to check out other books from Hannah.

This was a fairly quick read for me and I managed to finish it within two days. Perhaps being a little under the weather helped a bit with that or just my need to have a me day after a long and stressful hockey evaluation session.

One of the things I really enjoyed about the book was the vivid description because it literally felt like you were a part of the book and were with Libby as she was going on this adventure.

The book is basically divided up into two parts one is Evelyn’s trip in 1994 and Libby’s trip in 2017. Evelyn is Libby’s mother and she has kept a deep dark secret from her daughter, Libby. As  her mother is dying she finally reveals to Libby what it was, Libby is grief stricken after her death and decides to basically relive her mother’s year long trip in Australia in the hopes of finding her father that she never got to know.

I have never been to Australia and its on my bucket list of things to hopefully one day do and after reading this I really have to make this goal happen.

Its been a while since a book has actually tugged at my emotions and this one certainly did. I could feel my heart breaking when Libby was going through Evelyn’s death. My mom passed away two years ago and that emotion is still raw so I could completely relate to Libby.

Will Libby finally find the father she went looking for? Is she just going to make things complicated if she does? Or is it better to just leave things unsaid?

I highly recommend this book. It was a fantastic read and I am definitely going to check out her other books.

Sundays In Bed With…

Welcome to our Sundays In Bed With… Meme! The meme that dares to ask what book has been in your bed this morning? Come share what book you’ve spent time curled up reading in bed, or which book you wish you had time to read today!

This is being hosted by two of the sweetest people I have to privilege of knowing in real life Kate and Kim. Sadly we don’t talk like we use to because you know real life happens but there is not a day that goes by that I don’t think of them both. If you click on the banner it will take you right to the Midnight Book Girl blog.

Good Sunday Morning everyone. I hope you all had a great week and weekend too. Its a long weekend here in Canada because its our Thanksgiving. It was a busy hockey weekend as well with two practices and we found out since last week that Michael has made the Bantam A team and he got his favorite number 4 this year. I am a co-manager so it will be different this year stepping back.

I hope you are curled up in bed reading this morning. Sadly I am not because I needed to be up early to hit the grocery store for 8am to do groceries for the week plus the last few things for our turkey dinner on Monday.

Alright now to get into the books I read this past week, which sadly isn’t much for some reason:

There's Someone Inside Your House

The Uncrossing

This week I am reading:

Always With You

Sublime Karma

What do you have planned for this week?
