Meme/ Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme that is hosted by the lovely bloggers over at The Broke and The Bookish .

I know I don’t take part in this as much as I would like to, although I am hoping to change that this year.

Today’s topic is:  Top Ten 2013 Debuts I’m Looking Forward To

When I saw that this was the topic this week I had to take part. There are so many great debut books coming out this year that I am super excited about. In no particular order here is what I am looking forward to getting a hold of this year to read.

This is actually one that I am the most excited for and I can’t wait to get this. Wishing Kellie much success with the book. I got to meet Kellie last year at BEA as she was one of my roomies that week.

This one sounds like it will be an interesting read.

Isn’t this cover beautiful?

I have been watching KC’s youtube videos for awhile now and love them. She is so funny and I can’t wait to read this.

I actually was able to get this last year at BEA and I can’t wait to read this. Love the cover.

So this is what I am excited to read this year. What about you? Anything on this list interests you? Sorry about not putting any release dates on these books but I am currently working on this post at 1am. I encountered problems with blogger and then my computer so I am about ready to throw this out the door very soon.

Before that happens I am going to bed. Night everyone.

Meme/ Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme that is hosted by the lovely bloggers over at The Broke and The Bookish .

I know I don’t take part in this as much as I would like to, although I am hoping to change that this year.

Today’s topic is:  Top Ten Bookish Goals For 2013

One of the nice things about a new year is starting fresh all over again. Its like wiping the slate clean. With every new year brings a whole bunch of new goals or things you want to accomplish this upcoming year. Some you actually do accomplish and some you don’t and thats fine I think everyone goal you do accomplish is fantastic.

I thought I would share with you some of my blogging/reading goals that I am hoping to accomplish this year.

  1. I am hoping to read at least 100 books this year. I failed big time last year and I think once the fall hit I lost interest in reading.
  2. Read and then write review right away. I started out good last year but then for some reason I slipped. I read more then I reviewed.
  3. Commenting. That means on other blogs and my own.
  4. I am cutting back on book buying once again this year. This applies to me and not Michael.
  5. Try to have posts going up on the blog daily.
  6. To go through boxes of books and donate what you don’t need anymore
  7. Go to BEA (which is happening)
  8. Promote my blog more
  9. Reorganize my books and purge if need be (I always tend to do this before BEA)
  10. Finally to have FUN!!!!

What are some of your bookish goals this year?

(Meme) Top Ten Tuesday -Rewind!

As you can probably see I don’t take part in every Top Ten Tuesday but when I see I topic I like I love to take part. This is an original meme that is hosted by The Broke and The Bookish blog. Be sure to head over there to see their blog.

This week’s topic is:

Top Ten Tuesday REWIND (pick a past topic that we’ve done that you missed or just want round 2 of!)

When I checked out the list of previous Top Ten Tuesday topics I was overwhelmed and realized I missed out on some great topics. How is that possible?

So for today, I figured since I am on a book buying ban that perhaps I should highlight my Top Ten list of books I had to buy that are currently sitting on my shelf to read waiting to be read.

As a book blogger you encounter numerous blogs that review so many fantastic books and you are saying I need to read that for one reason or another so here is my list:

From the bottom going up:

  • The Night Circus- I bought this because of the cover (both inside and out) and because this was raved about last year and at the Random House event I went to.
  • Everneath- This is another one I bought because of the cover
  • The Selection- I have to admit that I bought because of the cover.
  • Graceling- Cindy B from Tynga’s Reviews said this was really good and that I should read it.
  • The Girl in the Steel Corset- I read so many great reviews and had to buy it
  • The Pledge- Another buy because of the cover and I have the authors other books sitting on my shelf to be read
  • Wildefire -At the time I loved the synopsis and wanted to read it but just never got to it yet
  • Daughter of Smoke & Bone- I have always wanted to read Laini’s books and this cover was so pretty
  • Born Wicked- i got this because of the reviews and the synopsis
  • The Marbury Lens was another one I admit to buying because of the cover.

Do we share similar lists? What book should I make the effort to read right away?

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme that is hosted by the bloggers over at The Broke and The Bookish . If you want to find out more or to see upcoming Top Ten Tuesday topics be sure to check them out.

Today’s topic is:  Top Ten Bookish People You Want To Meet (Authors, Bloggers, etc.)

I have actually been sitting on this post for awhile because I have been racking my brain over this one. This is a hard choice because who would I really want to meet.

I have been lucky enough to attend two BEA’s (Book Expo America) and I have gotten to meet so many bloggers through that as well as authors. So to sit and come up with a list is really hard. Not sure if I will make it to ten but I will give it a shot.

Authors:

  • Terry Spears is one author I would love to meet because I have been a fan of her’s since I started reading her books. I am always thrilled when I can have her on the blog.
  • Andrew McCarthy. I was suppose to meet him during BEA but unfortunetly the event got cancelled. I have been a fan of Andrew’s since the 80’s and the movies he did.
  • Molly Ringwald is another actress turned writer I would love to meet.
  • James Patterson. I love his books and I believe twice he has been at BEA and the lines were so long that I gave up.
  • Stephanie Chong because she is a Canadian author. I love her two books and missed out on meeting her at BEA this year.

Bloggers:

This one is a little harder because I follow so many fantastic blogs. I would love to list  you all but I can’t but I always look forward to meeting bloggers when I am out at events (author signings or BEA)

  • Lori from Pure Imagination she is an awesome blogger
  • Kim from Tales of a Ranting Ginger is an awesome Canadian blogger and is always so helpful. She isn’t a book blogger but a review blogger and one I look up to in that type of blogging.
  • Melissa from The Betty and Boo Chronicles. I missed out on meeting her in 2010 but hopefully when I make a stop in PA in the summer we will get the chance to meet up.
  • Angela from Reading Angel is someone I would love to meet one day.
  • Molly and Andy from The Bumbles Blog. We were exchange partners and they just seem like awesome people that I would love to meet although I have to admit I do more stalking then commenting on their blog.

There are so many bloggers and authors I would love to meet and hopefully one day it will happen.

(Meme) Top Ten Tuesday: 10 authors I am die to me

Occassionaly I take part in To Ten Tuesday meme that is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish and today is one of those days that I decided to take part. The Top Ten Tuesday question is this week is: Who are the top ten authors that you’d DIE to meet?

One of the things I love about Top Ten Tuesday is that its always an interesting question and sometimes I can think of a good list and other times it leaves me thinking and that is the case today, what ten authors am I dying to me? I have been lucky to date and have met some great authors so to think of ones I haven’t met is rough.

1) Terry Spear – I discovered Terry’s book about 3 years ago and I absolutely love them and she is an awesome author to work with so I would definitely want to meet her if I had the chance.

2) Lesley Livingston – I haven’t read her Wonderous Strange series yet (but I have them) and I just started to read Once Every Never and I am enjoying it. Plus she is a Canadian author.

3) Meg Cabot – I have read all of her adult books and I am just about to start reading her YA books. I am sure I will enjoy them just as much as her other books.

4) James Patterson – I have read most of his books so getting to meet him would be exciting.

5) Maggie Steifvater – need I say more?

6) Sophie Kinsella – I loved her shopoholic series

7) Melissa de la Cruz –

8) Julie Kagawa – need i say more?

9) Lena Coakley – a new to me Canadian author and I am just about to start her debut novel.

10) Kerry Sparks – I have read her books and loved them and she is another one of those authors who its a pleasure to work with.

I didn’t realize how hard this list would be because I actually put a few names down but realized I met them last year at BEA. So what would be your top ten list?

(Meme) Top Ten Tuesday: Bookish Pet Peeves

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish .

Each week on The Broke and the Bookish they will post a new Top Ten list and they will share their answers with us. Everyone is welcome to join and all you are asked to do is link back to The Broke and the Bookish on your own Top Ten Tuesday post AND add your name to the Linky widget so that everyone can check out your blog and at the same time you can check out everyone elses blog posts!

This weeks Top Ten is BOOKISH PET PEEVES.

As a book blogger or a book lover you have to admit that there are things that really get under your skin when it comes to books. I had to sit and think for a bit on what mine were because there is alot that bother me. Here is my list:

1) Stickers on books:
I hate stickers on books especially when the book has been marked down and is a bargain book and it seems no matter what those suckers are glued down. No amount of gently pulling brings it off.

2) Marked up books/Damaged covers:
Recently I had this conversation with me friend and she had bought some books and only when getting home did she realize that there was a black marker line on the bottom of the book (on the pages). Realizing then why those were on sale and not the original price like it was in the section. As for damaged covers, when a bookstore will shelf them in hopes people will buy the damaged book.

3) Not having new releases in store:
Big named bookstores (and I mean you Chapters) not having the book in store and none on order and they are new releases. Forcing you to order online. Well since this, I will order online but through another source. Taking my business elsewhere since I have to order online anyways.

4) No where to be found:
Poor inventory is another book pet peeve of mine. When you go to the bookstore and they say they have copies of the books and there is none to be found. You hunt the store looking for a copy.

5) Author events a no go:
The disadvantage to living here sometimes is the fact that not alot of authors come this way. I would have loved it if The Dark Days of Supernatural came to Montreal but they are only going to Toronto. Sure we get author events and were lucky enough to get Scott, Holly and Cassandra but it would be nice to get others.

6) People who damage their books:
Seeing people dog ear their books. I know its their book and they can do what ever they want but just watching them do it makes my blood curl. This is something I have never done even if I am dire need. I always manage to find something to hold my place be it a gum wrapper, a Kleenex, a piece of paper etc. Cracking the spine of books need I say more?

7)People who judge:
It really bothers me when people judge people based on what they read. Does it really matter if we are adults who like reading young adult books? It shouldn’t matter what you read as long as your read.

8) Listing inside the book:
If the author has written other books and just listing them in whatever order inside the book so you have no idea if the book is a series and what comes first. I tend to buy alot of books and sometimes the cover strikes me so I will pick it up and try to find out if its a series or not and its not marked anywhere.

9) Re doing covers:
When they make a movie/tv show they have to redo the covers so not only do you have the original but you have the movie/tv show version as well. Even better is starting the series with one set of covers and switching them such as the Pretty Little Liars.

10) Formatting in a series:
Finally books that are in a series and they start out as paperbacks (trades) and switch to hardcover. This frustrates me to no end and then waiting like forever for it to come out in paperback so that it can match my series.

Bonus one:
Covers and Books:
Why is it that the same book has to have different covers? I have noticed this with alot of books released in Canada is different from the US etc. Why can’t we all have one cover? As for books why is that we all can get the same book? Example not being released in Canada, or the US etc?

This is my pet peeves what are yours?
