Review: Lady Flatterley

TITLE: Lady Flatterley
AUTHOR: Linda Wagner
PUB DATE: 2008
ISBN: 978-1-4327-3233-2

Thank You to Linda for sending me this book to read and review. My son loved the book. Jerry Hanzel did the layout with his photography. All the background pictures were realistic. The artwork was done by Pearl L. Ollie.

The book is about a shy caterpillar named Lady Flatterley. Who hides in a tree all the time. She dreams of becoming a butterfly. One day she meets a butterfly and the butterfly tells her that one day she will be a butterfly too. Then as winter came she builds her cocoon. When spring came and Lady Flatterley tried to get out but couldn’t she called for help. No one would help her cause they knew when she was ready she would come out. When she was ready she broke out of the cocoon and was amazed at how pretty she was. She was a beautiful butterfly.

My son really enjoyed receiving and reading this book with me.

The book is about Queen Vernita and she realized when she is looking at the calendar that its been twelve months since she has seen her friends. So she sents out twelve invitations to twelve friends inviting them to come visit her for a month each.

Each month a friend comes and stays the whole month and they do different things different days of the week.

This is a great educational book. It teaches about the months of year and how many there is, how many days are in a month and the days of the week and what they are. Its a great teaching tool and after reading this my son has asked alot of quesiton about it.

Review: Kosher By Design: Lightens Up

TITLE: Kosher By Design: Lighten Up
AUTHOR: Susie Fishbien
PUB DATE: November 17, 2008

I loved looking through this cookbook and was really excited when I got it. I have to admit I am not a big cookbook person. I have a few standard cookbooks that I use. So when given the chance to review this I jumped at the chance. As a family we are always looking to try new and healthy foods.

The book layout is great and informative. The first part of the book explain how to keep a kosher kitchen and make healthy choices in your eating habits. The next part is a section with definitions and explanations of flours, sugars, oils, etc. What is nice about the cookbook is that a recipe is on one page and the next page has a picture of the finished product. Which is a selling point for me when looking to make something.

The recipes are all great. The ingredients are all stuff you can find in your local grocery store. The directions are all easy to read and follow. What is nice about each recipe Susie always has a little history about the recipe which I find makes the book more personal.

To date I have made:
Salads: Sweet Potato Salad, deli salad, house salad, Marrakesh carrot salad, and creamy garlic salad.
Poultry: Braised Turkey and balsamic glazed chicken.
Dessert: Ancie’s Carrot Cake and my favorite Iced Cappuccinos

All have been really good and family approved to make again. Looking forward to make more from the book in the new year.

Review: The Dragonfly Secret

TITLE: The Dragonfly Secret: A story of Boundless Love
AUTHOR: Cleo & John Adams
DATE: October 2008

This is such a beautiful story. I was in tears reading it. When my favorite aunt passed away I had gotten little signs like that. Its nice to know that there can be signs out there. My son loved the book.

The illustrations are beautiful in the book as you can see below. The book is about a mother and father who are grieving the death of their son and the fathers parents. David uses the dragonfly to get the attention of his parents. He gives the dragonfly three things to do for him the next day in the garden. All which Lea, the dragonfly does.

Its a beautiful story about love and hope that transends all bountries.

This picture is the part in the book where he is asking the dragonfly to do three things for him. “You have message to deliver, a promise so true, it can only be carried by a dragonfly like you.”

“The tenderness in her eyes drew Lea closer. The air around her became warm. The flowers and grass brightened.”

My review was also mentioned on This Blog

Review: Arsenic Soup for Lovers

Title: Arsenic Soup for Lovers: When Chicken Soup Doesn’t Work
Author: Georgia Z. Post
Date: June 2007
Genre: Collection of 25 very very short stories

I got this book today in the mail. Seeing as I wasn’t feeling very well I thought this would be a nice quick funny read for today. That it was. There were a few short stories that had me laughing. From the Mid Life Crisis to Perfect Couple plus a few others.

These are about 3 minute short stories. These are probably ordinary life situations that turn into quirky funny moments. They range from ex wives who want to get even, widows who want to get married again, couples who are about to divorce, the perfect couple, the husband who is having a mid life crisis, a guy looking for his ideal woman and the man with a fetish.
