Goodreads

This bestselling classic novel about bullying gone awry from three time Edgar Award–winning author Willo Davis Roberts is a “fast-paced mystery [that] unfolds with suspense and excitement” (School Library Journal).
I didn’t like Willie Groves, but I didn’t hate him enough to want someone to kidnap him.
Famous last words. Joey Bishop soon finds himself face-to-face with the kidnappers—and his archenemy—in this fast-paced story that will leave you glued to the edge of your seat.

Sometimes I find a real bargain book.  Not the 50% off kind of bargain but the “I’m going for $2.00” bargain. With prices like these, it is also a risk as to what kind of book it really is.  Will it be any good?  Why is it so inexpensive?  Well, “The Kidnappers” by Willo Davis Roberts was one such book on the bargain table for a mere $2.00, and…I lucked out!  It’s a great read!

Perfect for any late elementary school reader, this fast-paced kidnapping drama will keep you on your toes and your fingers doing the page flipping.

When Willie Grooves, a.k.a., the bully, is kidnapped, it is up to Joey to save the life of a kid who basically wants to pulverize him.  What should he do?  Joey doesn’t think twice and tries to get everybody and anybody to listen to him.  The problem, Joey likes to tell tales and this time he cried wolf one too many times.

Will Joey be able to get the help he needs in time to rescue his nemesis?   Will Joey have a change of heart?  Will Joey be able to untangle himself and his enemy from the grasp of the kidnappers?  Don’t miss out reading this exciting adventure!

Excerpt

THE WITCH OF WILLOW HALL by Hester Fox
“It’s too hot for coffee,” Emeline announces suddenly, even though she’s not allowed to have a sip of the beverage. “It’s too hot for dresses and shoes and hair and fingernails. It’s too hot for stockings and feathers and fur.”
Mr. Barrett and Father break off their conversation, and silence falls over the parlor. Mother shoots our guests an apologetic look and then a pleading one at Emeline. “I’m so sorry. It’s past her bedtime and she’s getting tired.”
But Emeline isn’t done. She’s goes over to Mr. Barrett and looks up at him. “It’s too hot,” she repeats. “And I’m not tired at all. There’s a pond behind the house, did you know? I want to go to the pond and see the mermaids.”
I should take her upstairs to bed, but I don’t move. Mr. Barrett is looking down at her with a queer expression, a crease between his brows. She takes his hand in hers. His aren’t tapered and elegant like Cyrus’s; Mr. Barrett’s hands are capable, strong, and Emeline’s hand completely disappears in his. “Please, let’s go to the pond where it’s cool and we can swim with the mermaids. I want to go play with the little boy at the pond.”
“What little boy? What on earth are you talking about, Emmy?” But Emeline ignores Mother’s question and her lip begins to tremble when it becomes clear that she isn’t going to get her way.
By this time even Catherine and Mr. Pierce have paused in their giggles and whispers and both are staring. Crimson spreads over Catherine’s face. “Really, Emeline. Leave poor Mr. Barrett alone.”
Mother gets up slowly, and I can tell she doesn’t have the energy for this. “It’s dark out, Emmy. And Mr. Pierce and Mr. Barrett have business to discuss with your father.” She reaches out to take her hand, but Emeline dives out of her grasp.
I’m mortified. I understand Emeline, but Mr. Barrett will never return to our house if she behaves like this. I try to catch her attention, but she misses the cautioning look.
“I don’t want to go to bed!” I’ve never seen Emeline in such a pout before. She must be tired beyond reason, and the heat certainly isn’t helping. Hands clenched at her sides, she looks as if she’s on the verge of bursting into tears. But instead she just stomps her little foot.
But just as her foot comes down on the carpet, both doors slam shut with a great bang.
Mother jumps, Catherine lets out a little cry and Father’s eyebrows look as if they are about to fly off his face. The room goes silent, the only movement the residual wobbling of a vase on the table.
We all look at each other. Even Emeline looks surprised, because if we didn’t know better, it was almost as if she caused the doors to fly shut with her foot.
Father is the first to speak. He clears his throat and glances around. “Must be the wind,” he mumbles. “You think you have a house built new and it wouldn’t be full of drafts and loose doors, but I suppose there’s no such thing as peace of mind in New England construction.”
Mother is quick to agree with him, and Mr. Pierce gives a dubious nod. But we all know that there was no breeze, that it’s been so still that a feather would have hardly quivered, let alone two doors slamming. No one wants to say so though at the risk of frightening Emeline.

What’s worse than insufferable dragon shifters?

Insufferable dragon shifters who think it’s ‘immoral’ to sell dragons.

It’s just my luck that the magical dragons I found would be three asshole shifters. The trade value of dragons just went up too. And when I mention selling at least one of the men to cover my investment, they throw little tantrums like I asked them to give their souls or something.

Ungrateful little creatures are what they are.

I have my own problems. My own secrets. These men are not what I need in my life right now. To top it off, they’re on the hunt for a dangerous Mage.

Just wait until they find out the Mage they’re hunting is actually me …

This is a Reverse Harem series containing M/M themes. Recommended for readers 18 and over.

I quickly have to thank Rockstar Book Tour for allowing me to be a part of the blog tour for the Taming today. I was graciously provided with a eARC of the book to read for my review today.

Before beginning my review I just have to make a quick comment on the cover of the book and how pretty it is. If I walked by this on a bookstore shelf I would definitely turn back to look at it and pick it up to read.

This was a super quick read for me and I have to say that I really enjoyed it.

Taming is the first book in the To Tame A Shifter series. The second book in the series is called Claiming and it will be released November 13, 2018.  I will have to pick it up because I really enjoyed this book and curious to see where this storyline is going.

Claiming: A Reverse Harem Series (To Tame a Shifter Book 2)

This is my first time reading anything by A.K. Koonce and I have to say if this book is anything like that rest of her books I need to start reading them soon. I was instantly sucked into the world from the first word to the very last.

The main character is Arlow and she is a mage who is on the run from her ex boyfriend who is hunting her down. At first we don’t know what she is running from and why but as the story progress we soon find out. Arlow lives in a world where magic is forbidden. Arlow has taken on the role as an animal trainer because she seems to get along with various animals then people. She tames and sells magical animals and is always on the hunt for rare ones which she knows will bring in more money.

Upon a recent visit to her blind mage friend she discovers her burying three objects in the ground. curiosity gets the better of her and she goes to dig up the three objects. She soon discovers that they are three huge eggs so she decides to take them home because she knows that these could fetch some really good money to the right buyer which just happens to be the king. Arlow needs to make this a quick sale and get a way before its too late.

As she gets these eggs to hatch she discovers that they are three beautiful dragons but what she doesn’t know is that these three dragons (Kain, Rime, and Chaos)  are actually shifters who were hired by a demon to hunt for this mage and what those dragons don’t know is that its Arlow. What will they do when they discover the truth?

This definitely ended with a cliff hanger and I am curious to see where this goes.

To Be Read in October 2018

This is my 5th month doing this and so far I think I am doing okay some months are a hit or miss but over all I think its going good. Some months don’t go according to plan since I do take part in blog tours and have those books to read but over all I am pleased with how this is going.

So, for October  I am aiming to read the following books:

  1. The Fear of Falling by Amanda Cowen (this is for a upcoming blog tour)
  2. The Reckless Club by Beth Vrabel (publisher sent)
  3. The Sisters of the Winter Wood by Rena Rossner (publisher sent)
  4. The President is Missing by Bill Clinton & James Patterson (borrowed from my sister)
  5. Me and Me by Alice Kuipers (upcoming blog tour)
  6. Billionaire Wolf for Christmas by Terry Spear (upcoming blog tour)
  7. Because You’re the Love of My Life by Sarah Kleck (blog tour)

This month my TBR as you can see is mostly books that I have to review for blog tours and what publishers have sent me. This month instead of picking three books like I did last month from my own shelves it will be replaced with ARCtober Reading Challenge  that I am taking part in.

Have you read any of these?

Review/ A Heart in a Body in the World

Title: A Heart in a Body in the World
Author: Deb Caletti
Pages: 368
Publisher: Simon Pulse
Pud Date: September 2018

About the book:

When everything has been taken from you, what else is there to do but run?

So that’s what Annabelle does—she runs from Seattle to Washington, DC, through mountain passes and suburban landscapes, from long lonely roads to college towns. She’s not ready to think about the why yet, just the how—muscles burning, heart pumping, feet pounding the earth. But no matter how hard she tries, she can’t outrun the tragedy from the past year, or the person—The Taker—that haunts her.

Followed by Grandpa Ed in his RV and backed by her brother and two friends (her self-appointed publicity team), Annabelle becomes a reluctant activist as people connect her journey to the trauma from her past. Her cross-country run gains media attention and she is cheered on as she crosses state borders, and is even thrown a block party and given gifts. The support would be nice, if Annabelle could escape the guilt and the shame from what happened back home. They say it isn’t her fault, but she can’t feel the truth of that.

Through welcome and unwelcome distractions, she just keeps running, to the destination that awaits her. There, she’ll finally face what lies behind her—the miles and love and loss…and what is to come.

Before getting into my review I quickly have to thank Simon & Schuster USA for sending me a eArc of the book to read for my blog tour stop today.

Have you ever stumbled upon a author and wonder why you have never read any of their previous books? Well that is me. I have always seen Deb’s books at the library, bookstores and bloggers reviewing them but I have never picked any up until now. Honestly I am not sure why but I am happy that I got the chance to read and review this.

I love when books hook you in right away and can hold your attention to the very end and that make you want to continue reading and subliminally tell you that everything else can wait just continue reading that you need to read it to the end. At first I thought this would take a little longer to read but within a few days I had finished it.

This was such an emotional read. It felt like my emotions were all over the place while I was reading this. With that being said as I am sitting here I am still thinking about Annabelle and I am sure this will stay with me for a little while.

The main character Annabelle who has survived something that no one should have to ever go through in their life. She is dealing with that plus the blame and guilt as a majority of people do. At first I have to admit I felt a little lost because the story takes place a year after the event that happened but as it progresses you begin to discover what happened. Through small little hints and then it begins to make sense as you read it.

Annabelle thinks of herself completely different then I was seeing her and so many times I wanted to jump into the book to encourage her and give her a hug. She broke my heart so many times.

Annabelle has decided that she is going to run across the country from her home in Seattle to Washington, DC to fight these demons. Her family and friends supports her fully by following her in a RV on this journey. Everyone on this trip plays a major role from her grandfather driving the RV to  her brother Malcolm, friends Olivia and Zach being her cheerleaders and forming a publicity team. The more she runs the more her story is getting out.

As a society we were taught to basically be quiet and not say anything. We are expected to keep it buried deep inside and deal and get over it. We are taught to be nice and polite and the takers know that and take full advantage of it not realizing the impact it has on the person. We are taught how to dress and behave from a young age. It doesn’t matter who you are, where your from, rich or poor there will always be someone out there that will take advantage and we need to teach our kids as they are growing up what is and what isn’t acceptable to do to another person.

You can see in the beginning Annabelle was using this to run from her situation but as it progress you can actually see that this process is helping her deal with the demons and making her stronger. Running for hours a day you soon realize that even though you are surrounded by people you are alone with yourself and your thoughts.

Deb Caletti definitely has a way with words and knows how to write. This book is so relevant especially to what is going on in the world today. I highly recommend that everyone should read this.
