Review: Lady Flatterley

TITLE: Lady Flatterley
AUTHOR: Linda Wagner
PUB DATE: 2008
ISBN: 978-1-4327-3233-2

Thank You to Linda for sending me this book to read and review. My son loved the book. Jerry Hanzel did the layout with his photography. All the background pictures were realistic. The artwork was done by Pearl L. Ollie.

The book is about a shy caterpillar named Lady Flatterley. Who hides in a tree all the time. She dreams of becoming a butterfly. One day she meets a butterfly and the butterfly tells her that one day she will be a butterfly too. Then as winter came she builds her cocoon. When spring came and Lady Flatterley tried to get out but couldn’t she called for help. No one would help her cause they knew when she was ready she would come out. When she was ready she broke out of the cocoon and was amazed at how pretty she was. She was a beautiful butterfly.

Review: How The Moon Regained her Shape

TITLE: How The Moon Regained Her Shape
AUTHOR: Janet Ruth Heller
PUB DATE: 2007
ISBN:0-9764943-4-5

Thank you to Elaine and Rob for sending me this book to read and review. The book won the Benjamin Franklin Award and the Moonbeam Children’s Book Award. The illustrations in the book are done by Ben Hodson and they are beautiful done in native art.

The book starts with the moon being round and full. She is happy and dances around. Then she dances in front to the sun. The sun tells the moon she is ugly. The moon was sad. She tried to dance again but she kept thinking about what the sun had said. She went along her skypath hanging her head. A comet sees that she is dragging across the sky and goes to visit her. The moon is getting smaller and he finds out why and tells her she should go to see a woman who lives on Earth who will restore the moons health. The moon is almost invisible when she goes to see Round Arms the woman of the Earth. She talks to the moon and makes her feel better when she finds out what the sun has said. She takes the moon around to people who love the moon ie the artist who paints the forest at night, rabbits who feel safe being out at night, and to a hundred women who sing and dance. The moon feels better and goes back to her sky path where is she strong and full again.

A great think about the book was at the end of the book there is all kinds of information about the moon. My son loves learning things and I think this is a great thing to learn about.

TITLE: Christmas Around The World: A pop up Book
AUTHOR: Chuck Fisher
PUB DATE: Oct 2007
ISBN:9780316117951

Thank You to Valerie for sending me this book for my son. We loved looking through the book. I have to say that this is the first time that my son has wanted to started decorating for Christmas in November. It started shortly after Halloween with wanting to look at the decorations etc. Thanks to all that advertising that was on tv and in the flyers. I have managed to tell him that we don’t start to decorate until the first weekend in December. (after my birthday)

This book is so beautifully done. Every page is a different pop up scene from around the world. On each page is the story about how they celebrate Christmas. The traditions etc. Words can’t describe the book. You can see alot of workmanship went into the making of this book. It was nice to learn all about Christmas and how its celebrated in other parts of the world.

Review: Goldilocks and the Three bears

TITLE: Goldilocks and The Three Bears
AUTHOR: Caralyn Buehner & Mark Buehner
Pub Date: 2008

A story about a Papa Bear, a Mama Bear and a Little bear that lived in the woods a long time ago. The eat oatmeal and one day Papa Bear said it was too hot, Mama Bears was too hot too but the little bears was just right and he said something that sounded like “My porch has a bus light.” They decided to go for a walk. A little girl came to their house. She walked right into the families house.

She looked around and saw three chairs and started to sing “Big chair, middle chair, little chair too. Somebody’s here to bounce on you!” The big chair had no bounce. The middle chair was too soft. The little chair she got on it and said ” But that chair looks like its just right. I’ll jump me up an appetite!” Of course she breaks the chair.

Goldilocks spots the oatmeal on the table and says “Porridge. porridge, sittin in a bowl, I’m gonna eat until I’m full!” In the big bowl it was too hot, the middle one was too cold and the last bowl was just right. She ate it all up.

“Goodness, I’m a sleepyhead! I think I’ll jump right into bed!” The big bed was to hard, the middle one was too slippery, and the little one was just right. She fell asleep.

While she was sleeping the bears came back and noticed the front door opened. Little bear thinks its a wild beast. They go in and notice the chairs. Little bear thinks it was a monster. They notice the porridge and little bears is all gone and he thinks it could be an alien. They go upstairs and notice the beds all messed up. They spot Little bears bed. Papa bear thinks its a wild beast. Mama Bear thinks its a monster. Little bear thinks its an alien. Just then Goldilock opens her eyes and jumps out of bed and yells ” Pardon me if I don’t stay..Don’t feel like jumping anyway!” and she jumps out the window and runs away.

A little twist on the classic tale. This was a little more detailed from my son cause he had to talk about each page and laugh at Goldilocks.

Review: Louder Lili

TITLE: Louder Lili
AUTHOR: Gennifer Choldenko
DATE: 2008

Lili was a quiet girl in school. Her teacher was always telling Lili she needed to speak up. When recess would come Lili always stayed inside. She would stay with Lois who was the classes guinea pig and she would read books. Lili didn’t take part in class because she was shy. Lili’s mother had no idea that Lili had no friends except Lois. One day a girl named Cassidy partnered up with Lili for a project and she took all the credit for it. It was until Cassidy started to hurt Lois ie cut his fur and put glue in his water that Lili finally spoke up. At the end she made a new friend.

Thanks to my son for this great review.
