In post-climate disaster Alberta, a woman infected with a mysterious parasite must choose whether to pursue a rare opportunity far from home or stay and help rebuild her community.

The world is nothing like it once was: climate disasters have wracked the continent, causing food shortages, ending industry, and leaving little behind. Then came Cad, mysterious mind-altering fungi that invade the bodies of the now scattered citizenry. Reid, a young woman who carries this parasite, has been given a chance to get away - to move to one of the last remnants of pre-disaster society - but she can't bring herself to abandon her mother and the community that relies on her.

When she's offered a coveted place on a dangerous and profitable mission, she jumps at the opportunity to set her family up for life, but how can Reid ask people to put their trust in her when she can't even trust her own mind?

Before I begin my review, I quickly have to thank ECW Press for sending me a copy of the book.

I have to admit that when I received The Annual Migration of Clouds in the mail I knew nothing about the book and I didn’t read the synopsis. I wanted to go in knowing nothing about it. This was a new to me title and Premee Mohamed was a new to me author but after reading this I definitely want to check out her previous books.

Her previous books are, The Apple Tree Throne, Beneath the Rising (bk 1), A Broken Darkness (bk 2), These Lifeless Things (novella), And What Can We Offer You Tonight (novella).  The Void Ascendant (bk 3) is coming out in 2022.

I should also mention that Premee Mohamed is an Indo-Caribbean scientist and speculative fiction author based in Edmonton, Alberta.

I have to mention that I think the cover is gorgeous and it was one of the things that drew me to want to read this instantly.

I thought this was going to be a pretty quick read since it’s a novella but once I started to read it, I knew that this wouldn’t be the case.

The story takes place in a post-climate disaster town in Alberta.  The story begins with our main character Reid, receiving a letter from Howse University. Howse University is a mysterious place where getting accepted is very limited and getting to the university is tough. Reid is excited she got accepted because they promise a better life for their students. The only thing it seems none of the students return home. When she tells her mother about this, she thought she would be thrilled but instantly she starts to put doubt into Reid’s head. Her mother thinks this is a scam. I was thinking the same thing as I was reading it. Was this legit or was there something sinister behind it? Getting there is tough, would she be able to make it even if she goes?

Reid is struggling with what to do, should she stay and help her community or should she leave in hopes of making this a better place. You can see this throughout the book where she is wondering what the best thing to do is. Will she stay or will she go?

I definitely need to stop there because I will end up giving it all away. If you are curious then I highly recommend you pick this up to read.

The world is gloomy and you can sense that as you read. Premee did a fantastic job of world-building.  Just by reading this, you can tell that this is a gloomy place and not like the world we have today.  I would say that this was like a wasteland. The people are struggling to survive daily. There is food storage and from reading the way the land was you wonder how can anyone survive. Even the animals are starving. Everyone has CAD which is a mysterious fungus parasite that is mind-altering to protect its host and then when they no longer need to host they die a painful death.

I definitely hope that there will be a book 2 because I am curious about what happens to Reid. There were so many unanswered questions such as was that university real, would there ever find a cure for CAD and so much more.

Climate change is something none of us can ignore. Yet the story of Myrtle does not seek to scare or intimidate young minds. Rather, the message is of hope and inspiration.

Explore this beautiful and heart-warming story that champions the beauty of our normal world and the wonders of conservation.

Recommended age group is 3-9.

Author Bio
For as long as he can remember, Chris has had a huge passion for storytelling. When his son Jesse was a young boy, instead of reading bedtime stories, they would make up their own far-fetched tales around the fictional superhero Deadly Derek. In fact, this has remained his main Google account name ever since, which means that upon joining Zoom calls, his name appears as “Deadly Derek” – much to the amusement of his network!

2021 has marked Chris’ entry into children’s picture book writing. And he’s been busy, publishing five fantastic books over the year. His talent for writing original and captivating stories around powerful messages is so evident – a rising star for sure!

Besides having a great story to tell, Chris believes the best children’s picture books have three key ingredients. The first is natural rhyme – words that feel like they should be there, not just because they match with another. The second is tantalising words and grammar – Chris’s books will stretch a younger reader’s vocabulary, and he uses a variety of tools to make the words roll off the tongue. And the final ingredient? Well, they must have beautiful illustrations to bring the story to life. For this, he relies totally on the genius of Becca Wain and her wonderful visual translation of his verses.

Winter is here, and snow covers the woods like a cold blanket. Mr. Fox has his enormous scarf to keep him warm, but it is almost TOO big -- he can't help but trip over it and get caught on tree branches all the time. But as embarrassing as that is, it is even more humiliating when trying to catch the eye of a beautiful lady!

This new series paints a tender and colorful portrait of everyday Life, showing that behind every flaw or weakness can lie charm and strength. Readers will recognize their own neighbors, friends, and family members in the endearing animal characters within this forest community. In this second volume, a self-assured fox tries to stay warm with his ridiculously log scarf, but winds up having to deal with the embarrassment of getting caught up in everything… especially embarrassing in front of the pretty lady fox he’s trying to impress! A warm-hearted and simple romance tale suitable for all ages.

The stories in this four-book series take place in the same forest over the course of four seasons. Each can be read independently, exploring the complexity and richness of relationships with family, friends, and loved ones. As both writer and illustrator, the author doesn’t rely on text to convey emotions, oscillating between a clever dose of dialogue and wordless passages to makes these stories accessible to young readers starting as young as 5 years old.

Presenting a graphic universe somewhere between Michel Plessix’s adaptations of THE WIND IN THE WILLOWS and the cartoons of Walt Disney (in particular those created by Don Bluth, such as THE RESCUERS and ROBIN HOOD), Dav gently conveys each season through a changing palette of colors and rounded designs.

Before I begin my review I quickly have to thank Diamond Book Distributors for granting me access to an eGalley of this to read today.

I absolutely loved this graphic novel. It was so cute that I am even thinking of picking up a copy when it comes out.

Not only did the author write this book but they also illustrated it. The illustrations are beautiful. From the snowy background to the adorable characters in the book, you can’t help but want to take it all in. The color of the characters popped from the pages.

It was funny and so cute at the same time.

Mr. Fox who is our main character is struggling with his big red scarf and is frustrated with it. Other woodland animals offer to help him with it but he turns them down. Then he spots a cute Fox walking. Sadly things don’t go smoothly for him because the next thing he knows he has fallen and is embarrassed. The fox rushes over to see if he is okay and he plays it off but just as quick as he brushes it off he embarrasses himself again. The other fox thinks it’s funny but this only frustrated the fox more and he storms off.

Will the big red scarf bring these two foxes together? You will just have to pick this up to find out.

I should mention that this is a new series and the previous book is called Beneath The Trees: The Autumn Of Mister Grumpf. There will be four books in this series. They are all set in this same four and it will be over the course of the four seasons. They all can be read as standalone’s.

I definitely think I will be purchasing these as they come out.

Screenplay by the writer of Rescuing Madison and A Lesson in Romance (Hallmark), and the forthcoming Aloha with Love.

Christmas isn’t fashion editor Roxanne Hudson’s style, but when she finds herself snowed in with a handsome stranger, she might just discover the magic of the season after all.

Roxanne Hudson does not like the holidays. They come with too many family obligations that take her away from work as a rising fashion editor in New York City. But this Christmas might be Grandma Myrtle’s last, and Roxanne’s parents want her to spend the holiday at the family cabin in the Green Mountains. With her boyfriend out of the country for a photo shoot, Roxanne decides to brave the long commute—and the wilderness—to spend Christmas in Vermont.

After an uncomfortable call from her boyfriend starts the trip off badly, Roxanne is blindsided by a blizzard on the snowy mountain road, where the last thing she hears before losing consciousness is sleigh bells. When she’s rescued by Mark Foster, a handsome park ranger who’s the exact opposite of everything she always thought she wanted, Roxanne seeks her grandmother’s wisdom and discovers an uncanny connection that could be a sign of what her life is really meant to be.

Before I begin my review I quickly want to thank Xpresso Book Tours for allowing me to be a part of this book blitz and for graciously providing a eGalley of the book so that I could read it for my review today.

Firstly, happy book release day Lindy. This is Lindy’s latest book.

Lindy is a new to me author and after reading this I definitely want to check out her other books such as Aloha With Love and The Magic Ingredient (I believe this could be a series). Both sound really good. I should add that she has two upcoming books called Mistletoe Magic (this is the second book in the series) and Regifting Christmas.

Sleigh Bells on Bread Loaf Mountain takes place in New York and Vermont, which just happens to be two of my favorite places to visit. Our main character is Roxanne who is on the way to making a name for herself at Divine, a fashion magazine. She has an off-and-on relationship with Hunter her model boyfriend. Her friend Spencer tells her that she can do better and to dump him. Will she come to realize that he is right?

For the first time since college Roxanne is going home to Vermont for Christmas. If she had her way she would avoid going but hearing the news that this could be her grandmother’s last Christmas she decides to make the trip back. It was her grandmother that believed and encouraged her to pursue her dream in fashion. So she feels like she owes her grandmother this visit.

Having left NYC later than expected Roxanne thinks her drive to Vermont will be uneventful and it starts out that way but in a blink of an eye, she hits a blizzard. Then the next thing she loses control of her car and wakes up to a bright light shining in her eyes. The person behind the light is park ranger Mark.

I have to say that I instantly loved Mark because of his love of books and reading. He had piles of books all over his room. How can you not love that?  If him being good-looking was not enough, how about a guy who lays out for you a change of clothing, a spare toothbrush, and a pair of wool socks with a candy cane stuck in them? Mark is definitely a better choice for Roxanne than Hunter but will she realize that?

This definitely played out like a Hallmark movie and I was down for that. This was definitely an opposite attracts slow burn romance. Which was another thing I was down for. It’s been a long time since I read romance or even holiday romance that I never realized how much I missed them until the past few months. DEfinitely need to keep this up moving forward.

I really enjoyed reading this. It was a super quick and heartwarming read that I read in one sitting. I should also add that in the back of the book was two recipes one for a pie and one for a cookie that I definitely want to try and make this week once I get the items I need.

Blog Tour & Review: Sunroofs and Shoeboxes

Blog Tour & Review: Sunroofs and ShoeboxesSunroofs and Shoeboxes by Jaime L Mathews
Published by Jaime L. Mathews on November 2, 2021

Train yourself to find happiness in a coffee mug, joy in the laughter of a stranger, and mental wellness with an open Costco parking lot.

Seeing the beauty in the mundane goes a long way towards leading a happy life. But the daily practice of gratitude is a muscle that needs to be flexed regularly. Jaime teaches you to look at life with a brand new set of eyes, every day. Eventually, you won't even need to think about it, and you will start to see opportunities in the biggest challenges, see the extraordinary in the most ordinary things, and your outlook on life will be changed for the better.

So flex those muscles now, and take a deep dive into the unbridled enthusiasm and contagious optimism of Jaime L. Mathews.

From the health benefits of opening the sunroof of your car and letting the sun in, to turning shoeboxes into treasure troves of memories to cherish, Jaime L. Mathews shows you the positive side in the things of every day life.

I quickly have to thank Lola’s Blog Tours for allowing me to be a part of this blog tour and for graciously providing me with an ebook to read for my stop today.

After the year we have had I definitely needed to read Sunroofs and Shoeboxes and I think I need to buy a physical copy of this to have on my shelf to pick up and read when I need a little bit of something good. Plus it will be so much easier to annotate this and highlight the important parts or words of wisdom.

Given the current situation in the world, it’s so easy to be down and negative. It’s hard to see the good things in life no matter how small they can be. We need to appreciate the little things and that is what this book is about. As you read it you begin to see things differently.

Each chapter is very short so you can read as much as a little as you want. I pretty much read this in one sitting because I couldn’t put the book down. This is definitely a book you can reread over and over again and walk away with a different outlook.

One of the things that Jaime talks about is practicing daily gratitude and this is something that I have done since my MS diagnosis. Yes, it’s easy to be down when life has handed you lemons and it’s hard to see the good but with practice and doing it daily you can see the beauty and good things in life. For me waking up each morning not having an MS symptom is a blessing. I try at the end of each day to think of three good things that happened that day, it could be seeing a beautiful sunrise or making that perfect cup of coffee, or making the perfect batch of cookies.

I can’t even pick a favorite story that Jaime shared because they were all so beautiful and heartwarming. We have to remember that there is beauty and love in the world and one person can make the difference. We just need to stop and smell the roses.

This would make a perfect gift for someone in your life.
