Product Review/ Income Rafiki Friend Chain

——————————————————————————–

The Income Rafiki Friend Chain provides sustainable financial tools to empower parents in a Free The Children community.

Every $10 Income Rafiki Chain helps empower parents, especially mothers, by providing the tools to generate sustainable sources of income, increase savings and start their own businesses.

Women who participate in alternative income and livelihood programming increase their capacity and skills. These skills not only benefit the women who attain them, but are passed on to friends and children who can use them in the same way, now and in the future.

That’s exactly what the Income Rafiki Friend Chain aims to do.

And remember, each Income Rafiki Friend Chain you buy is handmade by a Maasai mama who earns a fair wage to send her children to school, and helps an educated consumer make a socially conscious fashion statement.

Wear this treasure and give a mother the opportunity to thrive!

You might recall me talking about the Rafiki Friend Chains in my Virtual Advent stop earlier in December CLICK THIS TO READ THAT POST .

Since seeing the Rafiki Chains in Chapters I have become obsessed with them. I have been checking out the displays since then to see if anything new is out. So I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the Income Rafiki on the display. I quickly picked it up.

The bracelet is made with black, white, clear and gold glass Czech beads. Its elastic so it can stretch into a multi layer bracelt, a necklace, anklet or a head band. I wear mine as bracelets. Everytime I wear it I always get comments on it and people asking me where they can get one.

Its only $10 but its money well spent because the money goes back to provide women the tools to generate their own income. With each Rafiki sold you are able to track your impact it has made.

I am looking forward to adding this into my daily wearing. Along with my education, water and health ones.

If you are interested in purchasing one and your local Chapters doesn’t have them you can do so through Me to We site . It looks like they have added a whole bunch of new things to their site. Okay I am closing the page down and walking away from the computer.

Meme/ In Bed With a Book #9

My awesome friend Kate from Midnight Book Girl has introduced a new blog hop/meme to her blog called In Bed With a Book. This was a Sunday feature on her blog (and I believe she is still doing it on Sundays) and its basically a meme that you share what book you are reading today/this week.

There will be a link on her blog every Sunday so you can put your book there no matter what day of the week it is. I think for me I will continue to post this on Wednesday’s unless there is something I need to post on a Wednesday which it will then be posted on a Sunday.

This week I am almost done reading this:

I was hoping to have finished The Pledge this past weekend but it was once again a busy weekend. I am pretty sure I will be wrapping up this book today because I have Michael home from school today.

We went to see a hockey game last night (Montreal Canadiens Habs vs New Jersey Devils) and it was our first hockey game we went to so needless to say Michael went to bed really late last night so I decided to give Michael a mini vacation day. We have been chilling all day so far.

I am also reading this book on my iPad:

I normally don’t read two books at once but since they are totally different books I don’t mind.

What are you reading today?

Day 14 Book Blogger New Year’s Challenge: Blogging Wish List of 2014

Its hard to believe that the Book Blogger New Year’s Challenge has wrapped up. I want to thank parajunkee.com for coming up with this fun feature and I hope she will continue to do one of these. I had so much fun visiting other blogs and leave my comments.

Today’s prompt is to share with you my blogging wish list of 2014. Wow this is thinker and one I have to think about.

  • My first wish would be to continue blogging through 2014 and to be consistent with it.
  • I wish there was more hours in the day to read because I am hoping to make this a year that I read more and make a dent in my TBR
  • I am hoping to continue with visting more blogs and commenting on their posts as well as my own.
  • I wish to win a lottery that we allow me to attend all those awesome book conferences.
  • To stay organized with my daily schedule with posting but as you can see I already slipped on that one LOL
  • I wish to spent more time on my blog and write meaningful stuff.

This was really hard to sit and down but at least it gives you an idea, right?

Day 13 Book Blogger New Year’s Challenge: Share a Blogger Horror Story

The Book Blogger New Year’s Challenge is almost over. Where has the time gone. This past 13 days have been alot of fun. I loved doing each and every prompt and discovering new blogs and bloggers.

Today’s prompt is Share a Blogger Horror Story

I have been blogging since 2008 and over the course of five years I don’t think I have ever encountered a horror story or at least nothing comes to mind. Perhaps I blocked that tramatic memory.

The only thing I can really say that was bad (but then again it wasn’t me it was an author) was when I went to a signing for a well known adult fiction writer ( I won’t mention any names and I certainly never read said authors books again) everything was going good and I when said author started to do a reading for their newest book I was going to record a little snippet well I was sitting their waiting for a good time to record (and I don’t have a huge camera its just a regular digital one that makes no noise or anything) and the author just stopped in mid sentence and asked me to stop recording because it was to distracting to them.

This author had never even looked up from reading so I had no idea how they knew I was getting ready to record. What bothered me the most was I had spoken with the authors rep before hand to ask if it was okay to record a snippet for a the author meet up post and I was told it was okay.

I never did post about that author meet up and after that I gave away all the books I had on this author and I refuse to support that person any longer. Which is sad on the authors part because they lost a fan and supporter. I would have promoted them here on my blog.

So their lose is another author’s gain.

Whats your horror story?

Day 12 Book Blogger New Year’s Challenge: How do You Plan on Getting More Followers This Year?

As a blogger you always wonder how you can go about getting more followers to your blog. I am no expert on this by any means but for me this year I plan on:

  • be more active on twitter and promote my blog more
  • comment on other blogs
  • comment on my own blog
  • perhaps taking part in meme’s/features that require me to leave a link
  • when attending events or meet ups making sure to always have business cards to hand out
  • if you follow me I always follow back

What do you plan on doing?

Gone But Not Forgotten

Today marks the 6th year anniversary to a tragic accident that took the lives of seven talent young men and a teacher. These young men and teacher were from my old high school, Bathurst High School (BHS). There was one survivor in this accident, Bradd and I think we should also take a moment and think of him on this day.

I remember this day just like it was yesterday, waking up to hear the tragic news that Javier, Justin, Daniel, Nikki, Nicholas, Nathan, Codey and Beth all had died in a car accident on their way home from a basketball game in Moncton. The most shocking was that they were literally just moments away from the Bathurst exit.

To this day my heart literally just breaks for these families and my home town. They may be gone but they will never be forgotten.

Day 11 Book Blogger New Year’s Challenge: TBR Shelf: How Many?

I knew this prompt TBR Shelf: HOW MANY? would eventually pop up on the Parajunkee.com Book Blogger New Year’s Challenge.

I honestly have to say I have no clue how many books are in my TBR shelves.

I can say that as of today (Saturday January 11th) I have 5 books that I recently got for review that I need to read.

For everything else I would have to make a guess because I have a ton of books boxed up in boxes in my basemet, a cedar chest full of books, two five shelved book cases (packed in) a small four shelf book case that is packed in as well as well as a stack of books beside one of the book cases.

I want to put a low number and I don’t want to go to high, so can I say roughly 400 books I currently have in my possession? That is my books alone and not my son’s who by the way has a smaller collection then me.

These are books that I bought, was given and picked up at BEA over the years.

Over the next month or so I will be doing some renovations in my basement so I will be going through those boxes and giving away a ton of books because if I keep everything there will be no room on the wall to wall bookcase we entend on building.

How many books are in your TBR?
