Blogmas 2014 (Day 10)

Day 10blogmas

One of the best things about Christmas is all the baking and food I make.

One of my holiday staples is

fruitcake

a Peach Fruit Cake. (Check back this weekend for the recipe). I make this every year and we love it.

mincemeatpies

Mincemeat Tarts. I grew up with this. My mother would always make tons of these in November and freeze them for December. Super easy to make and all you need is froze tart shells (I can’t make pie crust if my life depended on it LOL) and a jar of mincemeat. Scoop to fill each tart cover with pie crust cut a slit to let the steam escape and bake until golden brown.

mincemeatpillows

Another staple that I always make is called the Mincemeat Pillow Cookies (I will also have that recipe coming up on the blog very soon).

fudge

Finally the last thing I always make is Fudge. I always make two batches one with walnuts and the other plain. I will be sharing that on the blog very shortly as well.

What do you make for the holiday?

Blogmas 2014 (Day9)

Day 9blogmas

I ain’t gonna lie but I really don’t like winter and if I could stay in the house the whole time I would be more then happy to. Its hard to believe this is coming from an east coast girl eh? I grew up with winters like this so I should be use to it but I find the older I get the less I can tolerate it. Anyone else like this?

Anyways back to the topic at hand. Here are a few items that I can’t live without during the winter season:

One of the main things I can’t live without is books. I love curling up on the couch and reading on cold miserable winter days.

hotcoffee_2

A nice big cup of either hot chocolate, apple cider or tea is my survival for the winter months. I think I drink more hot drinks this time of year then any other time.

candle

Not sure if anyone else does this but I find that come the winter months I am always burning candles more so then any other time of the year.

Another thing I can’t live without is lotion. My hands get so try that I am constantly putting lotion on them.

What about you?

All I Want For Christmas Is… #4

alliwantforchristmas (1)

Danya from A Tapestry of Words started this fun little feature on her blog called All I Want For Christmas Is… and basically what you do is share your wishlist of books. I thought that this would be something fun to do perhaps on a weekly bases until Christmas. Can you believe we are a little over a month to go?

I am no where near being started so over the next few weeks I will be shopping, shopping and more shopping for gifts for my family and two Secret Santas I am taking part in. Are you ready?

Here is my 5 books this week: (Sorry had to edit this darn Amazon has my widget messed up)

  • Star Cursed by Jessica Spotswood
  • One Past Midnight by Jessica Shirvington
  • Emblaze by Jessica Shirvington
  • Endless by Jessica Shirvington
  • Enpower by Jessica Shirvington

Blogmas 2014 (Day 7)

Day 7blogmasWhen it comes to give home made gifts I tend to find those special one of a kind ornaments in craft fairs because I always think its nice to pick up a few of those. In the past I have given home made coasters, placemats, candles, soaps or baked goodies from craft fairs.

I wish I could say I was super crafty but honestly I’m not so I always try and make it to a few craft fairs in November to find some special and unique gifts. Sadly IRL things happened in November and I didn’t get to make it to any craft shows so I am really hoping that when we go to the tree farm to cut our tree down that there will be some vendors selling their wares there so that I can pick up some last minute gifts.

What about you?

Blogmas 2014 (Day 5)

Day 5blogmas

One of my favorite things about Christmas is all the yummy found that I get to encounter this holiday season.

For me it all begins with Christmas Eve when we make our turkey dinner with all the fixin’s (potatoes, carrot w/turnip, gravy, stuffings, and turkey).

Then on Christmas morning w either make pancakes with bacon with juice, fruit and a coffee or we will do eggs, ham, toast with fruit, juice and coffee.

On Christmas day we go to my in laws where we have home made soup with veggies and the whole turkey dinner again with wine and for dessert my mother in law makes a drum cake.

drum cake

This isn’t my mother in laws cake (I found this online because for some reason I don’t have my xmas photos from last year on my computer) its a delicious cake.

Then on boxing day we go to my sister’s house where we do a dessert party and we eat all kinds of goodies from cheesecake and so much more.

I also do some baking during this time of year with cookies, fudge and a fruit cake. Check back to find recipes for my favorite baked goods this month. They will probably be posted on a Sunday.

What are some of your favorite foods?
