Topbox Goodies

I normally don’t do alot of online shopping  but I decided to take part  in a few of the sales that were going on during boxing day this past Christmas season.

One of the sales that was happening was on Topbox and honestly the only reason I decided to buy anything off them was because I had a $10 gift card that I wanted to use up before it was too late.

I really wanted the China Glaze nail polish but by the time I got online on December 26th they were all sold out so I decided that I would pick up this:

Its the MaskerAide Hydrating facial sheet masks. I decided to splurge a little and get the 6 piece mixed set instead of the packs that had the same four packs in them.

The masks are:
  • Weather Warrior (calm, soothe and heal)
  • Beauty Restore (restore, regenerate and repair)
  • Pre-Party Prep (brighten, prime and energize)
  • All Nighter (awaken, replenish and refresh)
  • Detox Diva (cleanse, exfoliate and detoxify)
  • I don’t wanna grow up (lift, firm and soften fine lines)
I am super excited to try these new ones I have I have gotten two in previous boxes and its nice to have a selection of new ones to try out.

Have you used these masks yet? What did you think of them?

Glossy Box- December Edition

If you are a regular reader of my blog or follow me on facebook you know that I always enjoy Glossy Box because I personally find that they are pretty consistent month to month with the products they give and honestly everything they send is affordable in my opinion and pretty much attainable at your local pharmacy or retail store. Which is nice if you can’t afford high end items that are in some of the other boxes.

Shipping was a little off this month and I only just got this box today. Its due to the high volume of mail during the holiday season and short mail weeks. Hopefully January’s will be better.

This month it was a little different as you can tell the box is silver/gray in color but its the same sturdy box. We also got another Glossy Mag. I enjoy looking through it but I honestly hate the fact that there is alot of high end products listed in this magazine and nothing relating to the box or the items in the box.

I think if you are marketing your box with pharmacy brand products then you should have a magazine that reflects that in my opinion.

This is the inside lid of the box as you can see its silver/gray inside. I kind of like the look of the box this month. Its a nice little change from the standard box.
This month GlossyBox teamed up with LouLou magazine. I am a little disappointed since I was hoping that there might have been a discount to Glossy Box members for a subscription to the magazine which there wasn’t.

As you can see the package is tied up with a silver/gray ribbon which looks very nice with the box.

The first item I pulled out of the box was this bonus item of earrings from Nobia. They are pretty but sadly I don’t have pierced ears so this will be passed on to someone who does.

Next is the Avon Lip Radiance in Silver Foil. Its a lip gloss. I did a little swatch on my hand and it appears to be a clear gloss with some silver (glitter)  in it. It looks rather pretty on my hand. There is no smell to it and it appears not to be very sticky but honestly after reading some comments on the facebook page, (GlossyBox)  this is apparently a discontinued product. Do I really want to use this?

This is a full size item but when I got to the site I can’t even find this listed so I have no idea how much this cost. Not finding it on the site leads me to believe its discontinued.
I was excited to find a nail polish in my box and its by Revlon. You know me and my love affair with nail polish. Especially Revlon.

Its in the shade Tuscan Sun. I really like the shade and I don’t have anything in my collection this color. It smelled like nail polish  and it went on nicely but this too according to people posting on the GlossyBox face book page said this was a discontinued item.

Now knowing that these are possibly discontinued items annoys me. Would it bother you?

Its a full size polish (14.7ml)  valued at $5.99
Another item that I will be passing on to someone who can use them is these special edition (just for Glossy members) fake lashes. They are a full size item valued at $12.50

They look really nice and feel nice but honestly I am afraid to put any kind of glue near my eyes.
Something I am excited about is this TRESemme Fresh Start Volumizing Dry Shampoo. I saw this in the US this summer and was going to buy it but I changed my mind because I actually have a few dry shampoos to use up so getting this now its perfect. I can’t wait to try it out.

The full size is 161g for $5.99 and the sample is 56g for $2.08

Another bonus item they sent was the TRESemme split remedy packet. Which is actually nice because I now have enough for a full week to try it out (I got some packets in the mail recently)

The full size is 700ml for $5.99 and I got 9ml of Shampoo/Conditioner for $0.08
Finally I got two products by Aveeno and they were Positively Ageless day spf 30 moisturizer and Positively Radiant  tinter Moisturizer in fair to light which is perfect for me.

Now honestly after reading about two discontinued items in the box I was a little hesitate of these but I see that the Positively Ageless moisturizer expires in 12/2013 and the Positively Radiant  expires in 09/2013.

So these were full size items and the Positively Ageless is 75ml for $25.99 and the Positively Radiant is the same 75ml for $22.99

I like Aveeno so it will be nice to try these out.

As you can see the box did pay for itself with the Aveeno alone but I am a little disappointed knowing that two of the items are possibly discontinued?

Would you use them just the same?

Are you planning on going to BEA in May 2013? Looking for a roomie?

I know you are probably cringing already seeing this kind of post so early in the year and I am sorry for that. Although BEA is technically a little more then four months away so its never to early to plan right?

But, the purpose of this post is to put a feeler out there for anyone who is thinking of going but the thought of the price is freaking you out.

This year it will be a little more expensive to attend BEA since they have put into effect a fee to enter. I think a three day pass is $104 and that is an early bird fee with no Book Blogger Convention. Its a little more if you plan on attending the BBC.

Anyways the purpose of this post is that I am planning on attending again for what is possibly my third and final time. I had a blast at the last two.

Once again I am in search of roomies for the week. The first year I went I shared with another blogger and then last year I shared with three other bloggers so that brought the price down alot. Honestly the only way I can attend is by sharing with fellow bloggers.

If you are thinking of going and looking for a roomie, would you consider sharing with me? If so please leave me a comment with contact info so that I can get in touch with you?

Thanks for reading this.

Review (1) / Struck By Lightning

Title: Struck By Lightening
Author: Chris Colfer
Pub Date: November 2012
Publisher: Little Brown
Pages: 272

Source: I purchased this book with my own money.

About the book: Struck By Lightning: The Carson Phillips Journal follows the story of outcast high school senior Carson Phillips who blackmails the most popular students in his school into contributing to his literary journal to bolster his college application; his goal in life is to get into Northwestern and eventually become the editor of The New Yorker.

At once laugh-out-loud funny, deliciously dark, and remarkably smart, Struck By Lightning unearths the dirt that lies just below the surface of high school.

The film Stuck By Lightning is set to be released by Tribeca Film later this year and features Colfer’s own original screenplay. Colfer also stars in the film alongside Allison Janney, Christina Hendricks, Dermot Mulroney, Sarah Hyland, and Polly Bergen.

I have been anxiously awaiting this book and I bought it almost as soon as it came out. Sadly at the time that I bought it I was in a reading funk and it sort of just sat there until today. I decided that since it was not a big book that I would make the effort to read it in one sitting if possible.

Well it was possible and I managed to read it in a few hours. I have to say right off that I am a huge fan of Chris Colfer (I got to listen to him speak at BEA and met him when he signed my book. He was so sweet and nice). I read and enjoyed his first book The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell and I am anxiously awaiting book two in that series (which as of right now I have no idea when that will be) . I think he is a fantastic story teller.

What can I say about Struck By Lightning? I loved it and it was a nice read and a great book to get back into reading with in my opinion. I can’t wait to see this when it comes out as a movie. I just hope there isn’t too much a change from the book to the screen.

Anyways Struck By Lightning is about Carson Phillips who is an outcast at his high school and he dreams about the short amount of time he has in this small town. He can’t wait to get out of there. Carson is a very smart guy and everyone knows it so that’s what makes him different from his class mates. At times he can be a total jerk and really obnoxious but that makes him who he is.

The book is basically told in a day to day life of Carson. I loved the part towards the middle of the book when he is trying to get into North Western and is told to make a literary magazine and at first no one is one board until he starts to black mail his fellow students . How will that end?

One of the things I loved about Carson was that no matter what he went through he lived for his dream of getting out of there and making it big. Not once did he loose sight of that dream like so many tend to do when they are in that kind of situation.

Which I think is the moral of the story and so many kids need to hear this…no matter what people might say or do to you, just remember you can be who you want to be don’t let others tell you differently. Be strong and hold on to that dream.

I have to say it looks really good and honestly I don’t see anyone else playing the role of Carson Phillips expect Chris. He is perfect for this role.

Does this interest you?

January’s Sampling This Month

Welcome to January’s Sampling This Month post.

This month I have this cute striped box filled with an assortment of goodies to use up. It ranges from nail polishes, skin care, bath and so much more.

Check back at the end of the month to see what I used up from this month’s box.

Just a sneak peek, I got a sample of Dior Gentle Cleansing Milk from Sephora recently and I absolutely love this and have it marked down to purchase the full size very soon. I am thinking perhaps Valentine’s Day.

Taking Part in the Make Up/Out Ban 2013

Recently my friend Lucy from Moonlight Gleam and Simply Blushed  told me about this YouTuber Pink So Foxy and that I should watch her recent vlogs. Her name is Christine and she is going through a life style make over.

Christine wanted to simplify and declutter her life. Keep want she needed and used and get rid of things she didn’t need or used. Honestly after watching her vlogs I realized that I am just like Christine. I have a ton of crap (pardon the language) just lying around collecting dust that’s never been used or no longer being used.

After watching her vlogs I realized that I buy things for the sake of buying things. You know what I mean, right? That is partially due to watching vlogs and reading blogs. You see so many great things that overs have and are showing that you want and not necessarily need. Which is my case.

I admit shopping is like a drug for me and I get a little high from buying something. I think this all stems from growing up and not having alot of the things my friends had and I always vowed that I would always have things when I grew up.

So I have reevaluated my life and have decided to get rid of alot of things. To start off with I got rid of:

That is three full garbage bags of clothes, shoes and purses. When I started to clean out my dresser and closet I realized that there is clothes I no longer wear and probably haven’t worn for years why hold on to it? The same with purses, I am always buying one and only using it in one season so I decided that since I now have two really good value purses that’s all I really need, right? If I’m not buying purses I am buying shoes, some of the shoes weren’t even worn. Which is a shame because that money could have been used some where else.

That is the lesson here that I had to learn I am spending money on things I don’t really need but want. Is that right? No, its not. I could be using that money on other things or putting it away. So from now on I stop and think before buying.

So I am happy to say that those three bags were dropped off at good will and someone who needs then will get them.

After that weekend of cleaning I decided to tackle my dresser and bookcase which consisted of make up and various samples etc and purge and I did that. I managed to unload this:

Some of the items I had to trash because they were used and I don’t give out used items and the other items I will share with friends and family because it hasn’t been opened and used.

So the following is taken from Christine’s blog Beauty Travel Channel :
