I was one of five. The five girls Kyle texted that day. The girls it could have been. Only Jamie–beautiful, saintly Jamie–was kind enough to respond. And it got her killed.

On the eve of Kyle’s sentencing a year after Jamie’s death, all the other “chosen ones” are coping in various ways. But our tenacious narrator is full of anger, stuck somewhere between the horrifying past and the unknown future as she tries to piece together why she gets to live, while Jamie is dead.

Now she finds herself drawn to Charlie, Jamie’s boyfriend–knowing all the while that their relationship will always be haunted by what-ifs and why-nots. Is hope possible in the face of such violence? Is forgiveness? How do you go on living when you know it could have been you instead?

lives through.

Everything goes to hell when a gorgeous

to follow him straight into the Underbelly beast.

He claims I’m the lost Qilin Queen – a magical freaking unicorn.
I can smell the truth in his words, and
he’s desperate. How can I help him, if he works for my greatest enemy?

The answer comes barreling into my world
when his brothers-in-arms find me, too – lion shifter, mage, fae, merman, and
vampire.

They’re all from a magical world beyond

I’ll be the first to admit it…my rise to power hasn’t gone entirely as planned.
I’m still getting over Thana’s betrayal and the news of the
Mad King when a long-lost war hero reappears at court. He’s beguiled the nobles, but I’m not so easily swayed or quick to trust.
At least amidst all the chaos has been one constant; my
males. They’ve been there at every turn, and I’m falling deeper in love with them every day.
But the secrets are starting to pile up and weigh on all of
us. Our forbidden romance and the matter of my multiple graces being the least of them…so why do I feel like the secrets others are hiding could be even more destructive than my own?
My males would give their lives to protect me, but I don’t think they realize how much I’d sacrifice to ensure that never happens.
BOUND BY SECRET is the second installment in The Queen’s Consorts series, a medium-burn reverse harem fantasy romance!

Excerpt:

If only he’d take off that ridiculous armored vest, I’d have a full view of his perfectly sculpted chest. But then, I don’t think we’d be playing chess anymore—at least, not the kind you played on a checkered board.
I swallowed back the hint of warmth spreading through me at the thought of Kade bared before me, swallowing air in a way I hoped he wouldn’t notice. I watched him consider the chess pieces before him, and I knew from where he looked what he would do, but it would be his end, he just didn’t know it yet.
Kade clenched his jaw, reaching out to move his bishop into the perfect place for me to check his king.
“I wouldn’t,” I warned, and he groaned in frustration, placing the bishop back to where it had been.
His shoulders relaxed as he realized once again that no matter where he moved, I would end the game within two turns. “You are maddening, you know that?”
I barked a laugh, “And you’re just mad you got beat by a female—sorry, that you keep getting beat by a female.”
Kade’s lips shifted into a coy smile. “One of these days, I will win. You’ll see.”
I put the pieces back into formation, “I doubt it.”
He chuckled low, standing from the armchair to stretch out his stiff muscles, “Oh, do you?”
“I do.”
“How about a deal then, since you’re so cocky?”
I considered what he could be after but could only think of one thing. Heat pooled between my thighs.
“If I win,” he said, his voice taking on a husky tone that vibrated through the air, settling over my skin like a warm blanket after coming in from the cold, “If I win, I get you.”
My lips were suddenly dry. I licked them. Kade growled in response to the gesture. When I didn’t answer right away, he added, “You don’t have to agree, if you don’t want to. I enjoy playing with you whether or not there’s a reward.” He winked.
He really had no idea, did he? How badly I wanted him. If I was being honest, how badly I wanted all my men. Alaric, the contemplative. Tiernan, the lionheart. Finn, the scholar. And Kade, the flame. They were all pieces to my broken puzzle of a self. Bits of my soul I lost along the road to finding my crown and accepting my duty.
I needed them to feel whole.
“I accept the challenge,” I said to Kade, rising to meet his wide-eyed gleaming stare, “But you have your work cut out for you, Kade.”
A delicious, slow smirk spread over his lips, crinkling the tan skin around his
honey-amber eyes. His gaze roved along my frame, taking in my neck, my breasts,
the curves of my waist and hips, setting on a spot somewhere just below my navel.
Swallowing, I offered him my hand, but not as his queen, as his equal. As a man does
another man when a bargain has been struck. His smile faltered, replaced with an earnest respect. He put his hand in mine and shook it, once, hard, before he pulled me against his warm, solid chest.

About the Book:

Title: INKLING

Author: Kenneth Oppel

Pub. Date: November 6, 2018

Publisher: Alfred A. Knopf Books for Young Readers

Formats: Hardcover, eBook, audiobook

Pages: 272

From the acclaimed author of The NestThe Boundless, and Airborn comes a brilliantly funny, breakout book about a boy who discovers an ink blot that’s come to life! Perfect for those who love Hoot and Frindle and sure to be a hit with kids everywhere!

The Rylance family is stuck. Dad’s got writer’s block. Ethan promised to illustrate a group project at school–even though he can’t draw. Sarah’s still pining for a puppy. And they all miss Mom. So much more than they can say.

Enter Inkling. Inkling begins life in Mr. Rylance’s sketchbook. But one night the ink of his drawings runs together–and then leaps off the page! This small burst of creativity is about to change everything.

Ethan finds him first. Inkling has absorbed a couple chapters of his math book–not good–and the story he’s supposed to be illustrating for school–also not good. But Inkling’s also started drawing the pictures to go with the story–which is amazing! It’s just the help Ethan was looking for! Inkling helps the rest of the family too–for Sarah he’s a puppy. And for Dad he’s a spark of ideas for a new graphic novel. It’s exactly what they all want.

It’s not until Inkling goes missing that this family has to face the larger questions of what they–and Inkling–truly need.

Kenneth Oppel has given us a small masterpiece of middle-grade fiction. Inkling is funny and fizzy and exciting, and brimming with the kind of interesting ideas and dilemmas that kids will love to wrestle with. And Sydney Smith is creating wonderfully inky illustrations to bring the story to vivid life. Get ready. A little ink blot is about to become your new favorite character!

About Kenneth:

At around twelve I decided I wanted to be a writer. I started out writing sci-fi epics then went on to swords and sorcery tales and then, during the summer holiday when I was fourteen, started on a humorous story about a boy addicted to video games. Important Update…

Hi Everyone.

As much as this currently pains me, I have to take a break from my blog for a little bit until I get this health issue resolved.

Here is what has happened to date:  Wednesday as I was getting ready for the day I noticed that my left hand was feeling funny. I instantly checked for any symptoms of a stroke and there was none. I had a slight pinching in my shoulder and thought it was a pinched nerve so I made an appointment with my physiotherapist and she did some test and put it down to that but then Friday I was experiencing more numbness so I went to the hospital and went through the works of blood test, a CT scan and a EKG and every thing came out okay.

The resident dr I had in ER was fantastic and managed to get me an appointment with a neurologist for Saturday morning which I have seen and he completed a bunch of test and he currently isn’t sure what this sensitivity issue is and I have to go for a MRI hopefully this week.

So this is why I am deciding to take a short break because this message has already taken me 45 minutes to type. I do have some things scheduled to go up as scheduled in the next little while.

Hopefully I will be back asap.

Piercing light bloomed from the totem scale.
It swept over me and took away my pain, molding and stretching me into my full
dragon form. The instant the searing energy coursed through my body, I launched
myself into the sky.
I didn’t have a single second to waste.
Now that I was a beast of comparable size, I
crested the skyscrapers in a few powerful beats of my wings. From a few blocks
away, the wyvern spotted me. It let out a howl of fury as it surged straight
for me. I answered with a battle cry of my own, driving more and more power
into every beat of my mighty black wings.
Two F-22 fighter jets rolled in on either
side, joining me in aerial formation. Their engines roared, and both pilots
gave me a confirming thumb’s up. They were following me in for the attack.
I’d never felt so cool in my entire life.
I clashed with the wyvern in the air over
Central Park, clamping my jaws around his throat. I prepared to give him a
taste of my lightning, the same way I had the crocodile monster. One good jolt
and maybe I could bring him down.
Before I get a good grip, he swung his spiked
tail and whacked me across the eyes. I let go, snatching back with a roar.

He dove at me; his toothy mandible jaws open wide to rip my throat out.
A sudden plume of fire scorched his hide and
sent him reeling. I drew back, wary of the blistering flames.

Another giant dragon clashed in battle, had scales as red as fresh blood
and a ridge of tall, slender black spines all the way down her back. My breath
caught. Madeline? She’d gone full-form, too?
She attacked the wyvern mercilessly, pinning
him under another blast of her fiery breath.

Shaking off the blow to my head, I charged headlong back into the fight,
lightning sizzling and popping off my open jaws. We had to get him on the
ground. If we could pin him there, he’d be within range of ground fire and an
easier target for our air support. We could contain the damage to the rest of
the city, too.
So I went for one of the wyvern’s wings
full-force.

Fyurei had him distracted. He never saw me coming. I swooped in to break
one of his wings at the shoulders with a single powerful crunch of my jaws and
sharp jerk of my head. The creature screeched and kicked, floundering with his
one good wing and swinging his tail like a medieval mace. The bulbous, spiky tip
struck one of the F-22 jets and sent the aircraft flipping through the air end
over end. Not good. I watched the aircraft fall, waiting for the pilot to
eject.

He didn’t.

I didn’t hesitate—I dove straight after the jet, summoning every bit of
speed I had. The jet spiraled, smoking and streaking toward the ground. I threw
myself the final distance with a desperate cry, jaws open wide.
I caught the tail of the jet in my teeth
about a hundred feet shy of the ground. As soon as my jaws clamped onto the
metal, I reared back, kicked my legs out, and flared for an emergency landing
right in the middle of the park.
It took a second for the dust, snow, and
trees to settle.
Picking the jet carefully out of my mouth, I
held it up to my huge dragon eyeball like a little kid’s toy. Inside the
cockpit, the tiny pilot was giving me a shaky thumb’s up. He was okay.
I gave him my best dragon smile, terrifying
as it probably was, and placed his jet, right side up, on a grassy spot in the
park. Then I turned around to get back to business. I still had some wyvern
rear end to roast and an evil headmaster in dire need of reeducation.
