Mini Michael’s Craft Store Haul

I finally went into my very first Michael’s craft store recently. Yes you read that right, I have never been in one and that was mainly because we didn’t have any in Quebec and I believe the closest one for me would have been in Ontario or the US.

I think the reason I never went into one was because there was none here in Quebec but thankfully they finally came into Quebec with not one, or two but three stores here in the Montreal area. They are all within driving distance for me (roughly 10 to 30 minutes by car).

Since I had the car and Michael was in school I decided to drive out to the one that was possibly the closest one to me (although my GPS lead me a longer way which took a little longer but now that I know where it is its all good). With Michael in school I was able to walk around the entire store and look at almost everything. I made it a point to check out all the aisles.

I found some awesome little goodies:

I spotted this beautiful shell and quickly put it in my basket as this is now my newest soap dish for the bathroom. The other items are all jewelry pieces. Apart from the three pack owl pendants which will be made into bookmarks once I get the pieces I need.

I also grabbed some tealights for my wax burner. Along with a bunch of Owl items such as the ribbon which are going to be bookmarks eventually when I get the pieces I need along with some various stickers, scrapbook paper and the scissors. I also spotted the creative tags which I am thinking of doing something bookish with them.

I was a little bummed cause I thought the chain I bought would have fit the other owl too but it doesn’t so I need to look for a chain for that. I have been wearing this owl necklace all week and have been getting a few compliments on it.

Then with the other beads I made this bracelet although I really don’t care for the bracelet itself. I think its because I am use to the other kind of bracelets.

So that was my little mini Michael’s haul and I was really impressed with the owl items I found and I am thinking of eventually checking out the other two Michael stores in my area.

Are you a big Michael’s shopper? Crafter? Jeweler?

October’s Make Up Haul

I was going to save this until the end of the month but Lucy from Moonlight Gleam’s asked me if I would post this earlier. So I am.

She graciously helped me out with this with her fantastic recommendations. Lucy is turning into my go to friend for make up advice and recommendations.

Just a heads up but this haul is quite massive but that is only because the other night I found out that I had accumulated enough Pharmaprix Optimum points that I could redeem them.

When I was on the Pharmaprix website I saw this promo for the  Fall Beauty Bonus. When you spend $125 or more on cosmetics, skin care or fragrances you will get a silver cosmetic case filled with 13 luxury beauty and fragrance samples for free. The kit is valued at $137.

The offer is valid from October 13th to October 26th, 2012 and its while qualities last.

I had enough points that I could take advantage of this so I figured why not since its basically completely free since I was able to redeem my points. Although a few items I had to put back because they didn’t fall into that category to qualify me for the freebie so I here is what I picked up:

The first item Lucy recommended was a foundation cause my old one had expired and I have been looking for something to replace it with and nothing has come close so I figured I would give her recommendation a try.

I needed a new concealer and decided that with all the skin issues I have been having recently (see my previous post) I figured I would stick within the same line so I picked up this Bourjois Healthy Mix in number 61 Beige Clair.

I found out that if you wear a liquid foundation that you should set your make up. I didn’t get Lucy recommendation (perhaps next time) but I stayed within the Bourjois Healthy Balance line and got the Unifying Powder (10 hour) in the shade of 52 Vanilla
I really like the smell of this line and it doesn’t smell like normal make up which is really nice in my opinion.
This is the foundation Lucy recommended and its the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum. Its in the shade of 51 Light Vanilla. This was the perfect blend for my skin tone.
The top is the powder and it doesn’t look that like this person. The swatches are the foundation and the concealer. (In that order). I have to admit that I was always very unsure of liquid foundation in the past and always went for the powdered stuff but honestly why haven’t I used it before? I really liked the coverage and the blending of it. I love the smell of this line and I think eventually I would like to try more products in this line.
I decided to try two nail polishes from this brand and picked up: Cerise Noir (#21) and Beige Glamour (#27)
Here is the swatches of the polishes. The Cerise Noir is one coat and Beige Glamour is with one coat and two coats. (in that order) which are very nice shades.  The Cerise Noir is darker in person.
Rounding up that purchase I decided since this was basically free that I should splurge and buy some good eye shadow so I decided on the Benefit’s kit. This is the peek-a-bright eyes kit. I have tried previous Benefit products from my various sample boxes and loved the brand so I fugured why not.

So in order there is an eye bright (pink), shadow base (beige), contour shadow (dark brown), highlight shadow (dusty rose like) and included was two brushes a concealer and contour & liner. I love the packaging of this very girly and its a magnetic closing so no fumbling trying to open it in a rush or in the early morning.

I wish that other items could have been included in this promo but thankfully they had a sale on the following items so I took advantage of them.
I was told that a good mascara to wear during the day to make your lashes more natural and not in your face that you should wear a brown so I don’t have a brown but tons of black so I picked this up its the Covergirl Natural Luxe mousse mascara. I have to say that they were right. It was perfect for the daytime and it made my lashes pop without it being in your face.
This was another item Lucy highly recommended and its the Rimmel lipstick. Its in the shade of Airy Fairy #070. I have to say that I normally don’t wear lipstick (mainly because I have a hard time picking out good ones and the right shade) but with this one Lucy was right on target and I love it. It gives you some color but not alot.
This is the swatch of it. Its very nice and I like the texture and smell of it (not sure how to describe the smell of it but its really nice). This is now my go to day item.

So I was able to use up my points to qualify for the Fall Beauty Bonus.

I was really impressed with the size of this make up bag. Its huge as you can see. I probably won’t use this to travel with but I think it will be great to put it in a dresser to hold items not used all the time.
This pouch is removable so this probably can be used to travel with.
This screen holds the bottom contents in place without worrying of them falling out or going all over the place.
I loved how the products were placed in this Ziploc baggie and not loose all over the place. The booklet was great in talking about all the products and its Pharmaprix’s (shoppers drug marts) favorite items.
I decided to group them into categories and this is the skin care line.
~Lab Series is a multi-action face wash for guys.
~Korres Pomegranate deluxe mattifing Treatment
~Strivectin Power Serum Total Powerhouse (anti aging treatment)
~Clarins Hydraquench cream gel
~Elizabeth Arden Prevage Face Advanced anti-aging Serum
~Biotherm Lait Corporel Body Milk
~Lise Watier age control supreme the eye care
This is the scents.
~Elizabeth Arden Red Door Aura. I loved the smell of this and I know I will be wearing this alot. It says that this a new expression of the iconic signature of Red Door. It maintains the vibrancy of New York with a sensual and sophisticated melange of rich florals.
~Coach Poppy eau de Parfume. This is another scent I really like. Its a fruity floral, cucumber flower petals, mandarin and bright baby freesia buds, while leaving behind a lasting, sensual blend of cedarwood, sandalwood, vanilla creme and whipped marshmallow blend. I tried this one and at first I didn’t really like it but once it wore on I grew to really like it. Another item I will be wearing alot of this fall.
~Taylor Swift Wonderstruck body lotion. Another nice scent and it left my skin silky smooth. I think I would wear this in place of days I didn’t want to use perfume.
Now the make up. Yea…
~Lancome La Base Pro. This is a make up primer.
~ Smashbox photo finish foundation primer. I love that you can wear this alone or under foundation. This smelled really good and I loved the coverage and how it looked. I wore this without make up one day and perhaps I will try it with foundation.
~Last but not least is Benefits They’re Real Mascara. Not sure of the shade but I think its black.

If you remember I recently got this in one of my beauty boxes and loved it. So I am happy I got another one as a back up. I know right now they have a promo for this with a get a full size and a travel size for under $30 but I didn’t get this because I have alot of mascaras waiting to be used.

So this is my make up haul. If you want anything reviewed please leave me a comment below and I will do one.

Do you redeem your Optimum points for these kinds of deals?

**I also was going to include my previous posts haul in this but thought it would be too confusing so I left it out.**

New Skin Care Routine

Growing up, I always had to deal with acne and had hoped that eventually it would stop but low and behold it doesn’t, at least not in my case.

Over the past year or so it seems like every other month is worse and this past month was no exception so I decided to use Kellett’s Clarifying Acne Treatment. Which was a sample I got in one of my beauty box subscription services lately.

Since I am fair skin I only went with one application instead of two. Well sadly it was the first and last time I will ever use it. I ended up tossing it into the garbage.

If you are a reader of my blog you know I never say anything negative about anything but this time is the exception and I am only basing this on my experience with the product.

Like I said I got this for free in one of my beauty subscription boxes and I am not obligated to review any of the products since I physically paid for the boxes.

With this break out I decided that I would try the Kellett’s Clarifying Acne treatment to see if it would clear it up. Well I had no sooner put it on when it began to feel like it was burning, I decided to wait a bit since I thought that perhaps thats what it was suppose to do but when it began to burn and itch I immediately washed it off.

It was a rough night because all I kept doing was scratching my face. In the morning it was red and I had more break outs and nothing I did seemed to help or get rid of the burning itch and the dry flakiness that had appeared. I tried to conceal it but it didn’t help. This was a hot mess on my face and I didn’t like it.

I went to my pharmacy to see if they could recommend something before deciding if I need to do to my drs and thankfully a fantastic lady told me about this:

Its La Roche-Posay skin line. She told me that the prickling and redness was because my skin no longer tolerates the application of that product and its called Intolerant Skin and right now its hyper sensitive.

She was fantastic with telling me all about this particular line and that it should work. I was worried that this was going to be expensive and she could see it on my face and quickly let me know that she thought there was a kit available to try and she found one so I bought it.

I quickly came home to try it and right away I noticed that it wasn’t as burning and itchy as it was before. I washed my face with warm water and applied the cleanser, gently tapped my face with a towel before spraying the spring water on my face (which I have to say was hard to get use to at first because you can’t get it into your eyes) and then I finished off with the soothing cream.

The next morning when I looked in the mirror it appeared much better, there wasn’t as much redness as the night before. I instantly noticed a difference that next day after using it and gradually the past few days the hot mess is now getting much better.

I wish I would have taken a picture of this hot mess but I was totally embarrassed by it. I felt like I was in high school all over again. I kept my head down and didn’t go out like I normally do and tried to cover it up the best I could.

I really like these products and I think I will go back and perhaps speak to that lady again about finding out what is good for my face and continuing that as my new skin care line.

What is your go to skin care? Have you tried this before?

Please note I was in no way compensated for this review. I purchased these products with my own money.

(Meme) Sunday’s In Bed With….#19

I am working on getting some posts scheduled in advance and figured I would add a  Sundays In Bed With…. post since its going to be a busy weekend this weekend.

The awesome blogger behind this is Kate from Midnight Book Girl   not only is she an awesome blogger but she is was one of my roommates for BEA. YAY!!

Midnight Book Girl

Sundays In Bed With….is a meme I’ve started to share the book we’re spending the morning in bed with, or the one we’d like to stay curled up in bed with all Sunday if only our busy lives would allow! For fun, take a picture of the book in your bed, or simply write up a post or comment below sharing your Sundays in Bed With book. Quoted from Kate’s blog.

As you can see it was a slow reading week this past week. Not much reading got done. It was a busy crazy week. Michael is almost done with his hockey evaluations (only one more to go and that is happening Tuesday night) and my sister in law came into town for a quick visit. Also I found that I was pretty tired in the evenings and was going to bed fairly early.

So I am still reading Alice in Zombieland. I am about half way through it and hoping to finish it this week.

What will you be reading today and this week?

Bath & Body Works Haul

Today I have a Bath & Body Works haul for you. This is actually three different shopping trips but I figured I would combine them all into one post instead of three separate posts.

After posting my last one in September I wanted to go back to grab a few things I spotted when I was there last.

The main reason for going back was to purchase that owl candle holder. It holds 4 oz candles. I was pleasantly surprised at the price and it was only $12.50 for some reason I thought it was going to be more. I love this.

I also had a coupon that if you spent $10 you were able to get one free signature item so I grabbed the Japanese Cherry Blossom foam bath.

I also ended up grabbing some mini candles cause they were still on for 2/$5 and I picked up Creamy Pumpkin, Cider Lane, Spiced Cider and Apple Crumble. Perfect fall scents.

Then shortly after that visit I went back to grab some hand soaps. When I was there in September I had bought the Warm Apple Cider foam soap and we fell in love with it immediately and I knew I had to go back and grab some more to carry us over before they are all gone.

I was only going to get the promo of 3/$15 but then I spotted deep cleansing soap in the same scent and wanted to try them and I saw that if you bought 6 it would be $25 which is a much better deal.

As I was getting ready to head to the cash I heard one of the sales clerks talking to a customer about the lip glosses being buy 2 get 1 free so I figured why not cause I have been eyeing the Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin and Honey Autumn Apple and I got the Strawberry one for free. I love the pumpkin and apple ones.
Then the last trip I made was with a friend and I wasn’t planning on buying since I bought quite a bit lately but I spotted some things on sale such as the hand soaps were 4/$10 (Summer scents and they are Fresh Picked Cherry, Fresh Picked Apple 2x moisturizing and one deep cleaning)

Then the next items were 3/$15 and it was Honey Autumn Apple scrub, Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin scrub and Sweet Pea foam bath.

Then an impulse buy of that cute owl nail file. It was only $2 and too darn cute to pass up on.

So this is probably my last haul from Bath & Body Works until maybe Christmas or if I go to the US.

Are you addicted to Bath & Body Works like me? What is your favorite items to buy there? Favorite scents?

Mini Make Up Brush Haul #1

When your in the blogging community you quickly realize how many different kinds of bloggers there are out there. There is book bloggers, beauty bloggers, review bloggers, etc the list goes on and on.

Over the summer I started checking out the blogs that the blogs I followed followed (wow did that make sense?) and I was introduced to so many great blogs that aren’t book related.

As you can tell over the past year (roughly) I have been branching out and dipping my toes into other stuff. Yes I still love talking and blogging about books, although its been scarse lately (hopefully things will get back on track shortly with that) but I also want to try other things and share things with you guys because not all my followers are book reviewers now.

So, today I am going to start probably a monthly make up haul although it probably won’t be monthly since I don’t usually buy make up or beauty products unless I absolutely need them.

Today I have a little mini haul of some make up accessories that I recently bought. My absolutely fantastic friend Lucy from Moonlight Gleam’s sent me a text one day telling me that the Dollarama had some new ELF products in their stores.

I decided one day to walk over to the Dollarama to see if they had anything new. Just remember that not all Dollarama’s carry the same stock as I can attest to this because when I moved to Montreal 16 years ago, I briefly worked at one and we always got calls from other managers asking us if we got a certain product since they didn’t get it and a customer was looking for it.

Thankfully the Dollarama near me had some amazing ELF items as you can see below.

I picked up the following:

-Eye Lash Curler. This is the very first time I have ever used one. I think its because the look of them scares me. This was actually $1.50

-Foundation Brush (yellow). I have just started to use a liquid foundation inside of the powdered one and need to get a brush. I believe this was also $1.50

-Total Face Brush (the one right under the eye lash curler). I have discovered that after you put on your make up that you should set it with a powder so I picked this one up too. I also believe this was $1.50

-Eyeshadow Brush. This is if you were multiple shades and you want to blend them while softening the edges and lines. This was also $1.50 I believe.

-Smudge Eye Sponge. This is the perfect brush if you are creating the smokey eye look. This was also $1.50

Then I was watching a The Rachel Ray show and they were talking about make up creams (samples even) that come in tubes and no matter how much you try to get all the product out you can never well low and behold she suggested these Paint Saver twistables. So I went to my local Omer De Serres store and grabbed a handful. They were only 0.39$ each.

So this is my first mini haul that I got for October so far. Do shop at the Dollarama for make up related products? What did you think about that Paint Saver trick?

Star Looks- September Edition

I have to start off my saying I am really bad at remembering where I hear/read and see things from and this is a prime example. I recently heard/read or seen this and I was so interested in the box and discovering what it was about.

Please note that I was provided this Star Looks box for review and in no way persuaded to write a positive review.

Before showing you what I got let me tell you a little bit about the box in case you have never heard of this before.

  • You will receive 3 to 4 Full Size Make Up and Beauty products (each month is different)
  • All Star Looks products are cruelty free and lead/emollient free
  • Its $15 a month (if you are out of the US you have to contact them directly to set up an account. You will pay roughly $5 more a month for this box = $20)
  • Its a recurring monthly charge (you can also pay yearly)
  • Cancel anytime
  • Monthly your box will have a min value of $35
  • You are able to order previous boxes (past) if available
  • Please note that shipping takes a little longer to get into Canada (shipping starts the 3rd week of the month)
  • Subscribing cut of is the 1st of the month so any orders placed after that will get you the following months box
  • The site is http://starlooks.com (for all kinds of info and tips)

This is the September Star Looks box:

I loved how the box was presented. I have to say that I find the white/silver very elegant looking and the box is small enough to store perhaps some jewelry or little trinkets.
I have to commit on the tissue paper. This doesn’t feel like your typical tissue paper. Its got a more elegant feel to it, making it feel like this box would be elegant and luxurious.

One of the cards included in the box is a card letting me know if I refer one person I will get a make up bag. So if anyone wants to be referred please let me know cause I would love to get this.

The next card is the September product card. I love the image on the card. Each month is a different card and look. This is roughly the size of a recipe card (cue card)
This is the flip side of the card.
The items inside the box.
This is Star Looks signature eye shadow palette. This is 5 full sized eye shadows.

Each of the shadows is an opalescent sheen of color for the eye base. You can wear it alone or combine it with matte or shimmer shades to enhance or alter colors.

I tried to swap them but they were too sheen but they were very nice and I am excited to play around with this palette and mix and match them.

Another Star Looks item is the Clear Eye Shadow Primer. This is perfect to hold the shadow. This will last for hours and make the shadow vibrate. I am excited to use this because over the past year I have been told I should use a primer to hold my shadow longer.
This was a little surprise in the box, Star Looks included some eye jewelry in shades of opal and champagne colored Swarovski crystals. You apply it with lash glue.

Another card was included to let us know that we should check the site for tips on use to use the products they sent. I have checked it out and its nice to have a go to point for my looks.

Another item exclusive to Star Looks is quartz crystals. These crystals will attract energy and maintain focus and the added bonus is the symbol of beauty. They are perfect to collect and place in a glass jar to hold your make up brushes.

I am so happy to have discovered Star Looks. I love what I got in my review box and I can’t wait to play around with the palette.

Thanks Star Looks for providing me the September box to review.
