Amish Love

Amish Love

What’s all the hubbub about Amish fiction? Major media outlets like Time and ABC Nightline are covering it, and authors like Cindy Woodsmall are making the New York Times bestseller list regularly. What makes these books so interesting?

Check out the recent ABC Nightline piece here http://abcnews.go.com/Nightline/story?id=7676659&page=1 about Cindy and her titles When the Heart Cries, When the Morning Comes, and When the Soul Mends. It’s an intriguing look at Amish culture and the time Cindy has spent with Amish friends.

And don’t forget that Cindy’s new book The Hope of Refuge hits store shelves August 11, and is available for preorder now.

Not going to BEA…Check this out!

Earlier this week on Twitter, I saw Chris from book-a-rama saying she was feeling left out about not going to BEA this year. I told Chris that I was feeling the same way. I am not going to BEA either. Its hard not to feel left out when you read all the conversations that are happening on twitter about all the bloggers going to BEA.

Through out the day I was thinking of doing something for everyone who isn’t able to go to BEA this year but wasn’t sure what or how to go about it and thanks to Rebecca at The Book Ladys Blog she has organized a twitter party for all of those who won’t be going to BEA this year. The event will happen Friday May 29th from 8 to 10 EST. It will be a virtual party on twitter. Its going to coincide with the real-life BEAtweetup.

If your not going to BEA and would like to join in on the fun you can sign up at The Book Ladys Blog. I am going to take part. Leave me a comment if you are going to take part also and leave your twitter name so I can follow you Friday night.

I also noticed there will be some giveaways happening that evening. Do you have anything planned? I plan on doing some little giveaways that night and also during the four days that BEA will be happening. Have fun everyone.

If you happen to be a rep, author or publisher and would like to donate a book(s) for the giveaways please feel free to contact me. I would love to hear from you.

Update

Just got back a little while ago from the clinic for my bandage change. I had to get a tetanus shot as well. Well its 2nd degree burn. When they take of the bandage it wasn’t as bad as I thought it was. I go back on Thursday for another changing and I will know more then what is going to happen.

I am still able to read thankfully I can read hard cover books and trade. No paperbacks as its too hard to hold the book. The only down side is not reading but when I have to do the reviews LOL. I can type but its really hard as I only have one good hand and the other one is bandaged.

Thanks everyone for the comments you left in the other post. I will keep you updated.

Just a note to my readers

I just wanted to leave this note on my blog since I can’t possibly email you all. I will be MIA (missing in action) for a little while. I will know more on Monday and I will be able to update then.

Friday evening as I was making supper i managed to burn my right hand (which is my writting hand) which was entirely a stupid mistake on my part and can’t figure out why I did it. Stupid mistake of the week. I was making a glaze for ham I had cooking. The burner was on (forgot to turn it off) so once the glaze was ready poured it over the ham and put pot in sink to wash. Washed the pot and put it back on that same burner that I had left on. When I was read to take the ham out of the oven I picked up that pot and touched it, for no apparent reason. I ended up going to the clinic cause the hand was still burning and blisters formed with an hour of burning my hand. So my hand is wrapped up now and I go back on Monday for a bandage change.

Yea the dumbest thing ever I know. LOL

The Books In My Home Part 2

This is only part of my book collection. I have some in my bedroom and in the basement and those would be books I have bought over the years. The above books are my TBR pile. Those would be ARCs, and books from reps etc.

This is the bookcase in my living room and bsically the books that are on the shelves are books that I have bought, from reps, wins and from meets up with friends.

So those are some of the many books that I own. Once I get my bookshelves made in the basement I will post those. Hopefully by this summer it will be made. So am I the only one with a lot of books? Please let me know.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar is 40 Years old

This year marks the 40th anniversary of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, which was published in 1969 and in honor of the 40th anniversary of Eric Carle’s much beloved children’s book, today has been deemed “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” Day.

This was something special that Eric Carle did for Google.

We love Eric Carle books. He is a great childrens author with about 70 books to his name. One of my son’s favorites is The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Eric’s books are the best they always have an educational element to the books which makes learning fun for kids. The illustrations are bright and colorful.

You can check out The Penguin Group for my great things. There is a video of Eric on the site.

Here is the offical Eric Carle Website

Happy Anniversary The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Happy 80th Birthday wishes to Eric Carle. May you continue to write many more great children books.

The Books In My Home Part 1

During a recent lunch meet up with a Donna we were talking about books in our home. Mainly our to be read piles. I admit I have a ton in my TBR pile. That post will come sometime soon.

But I thought I would share with you pics of Michael’s bookcases. He has alot of books for a 5 year old doesn’t he?

Picture one is his bookcase that is in the living room. The top shelf is all his board books. Second shelf is assorted books from The Backyardigans, Dora, Thomas the train etc. The third shelf is the bigger books and his collection of chirp and nick jr magazines.

Picture two is his book case in his bedroom and that is a mixture of all kinds of books. Some of it is stuff that is a little too old for him right now and some baby books.

Picture three is a shelf in his closet and that is a few books he isn’t ready for yet and a few baby books.

Picture four is a picture of Michael’s night stand with is pile of books. These are his favorite books he likes to read right now. Also as you can see in this picture what I did to Michael’s bedroom over the xmas holiday. Its in the cars theme. Once his room is completely done I will share the pictures with you.

I am wondering if other parents keep their kids baby books? I know Michael doesn’t want to part with them yet.

If you click on the pictures you can see them close up.
