Joel Higgins has 901 unsent text messages saved on his phone.

Ever since the thing that happened, there are certain people he hasn’t been able to talk to in person. Sure, he shows up at school, does his mandatory volunteer hours at the soup kitchen, and spends pretty much every moment thinking about Eli, the most amazing girl in the world. But that doesn’t mean he’s keeping it together, or even that he has any friends.

So instead of hanging out with people in real life, he drafts text messages. But he never presses send.

As dismal as sophomore year was for Joel, he doesn’t see how junior year will be any better. For starters, Eli doesn’t know how he feels about her, his best friend Andy’s gone, and he basically bombed the SATs. But as Joel spends more time at the soup kitchen with Eli and Benj, the new kid whose mouth seems to be unconnected to his brain, he forms bonds with the people they serve there-including a veteran they call Rooster-and begins to understand that the world is bigger than his own pain.

A Few Upcoming Spring & Summer Titles to get Excited About

This week I got a email from Sourcebooks Fire talking about some Spring/Summer 2019 books coming out that have got me really excited and I thought I would share a few of the titles that I have added to my ever growing TBR list.

The Last 8

Extinction was just the beginning in this thrilling, postapocalyptic debut, perfect for fans of the 5th Wave series

Clover Martinez has always been a survivor, which is the reason she isn’t among the dead when aliens invade and destroy Earth as she knows it.

Then, in the former Area 51, she finds signs of life: a band of misfits called the Last Teenagers on Earth.

Only they aren’t the ragtag group of heroes Clover was expecting. While they only try to survive, Clover is determined to fight back…

Available March 2019

The Lost

Saw meets Pretty Little Liars in the riveting new novel from the Queen of YA Thrillers, Natasha Preston

In the small town of Aurora, teens go missing all the time. Most people dismiss these as runaway cases, but Piper and Hazel know the reality is much more sinister, so they decide to uncover the truth.

While investigating, the girls are kidnapped and locked in a remote building where every room is a test in survival. And failure…means death.

Available April 2019

Kingsbane (The Empirium Trilogy)

In the follow-up to Furyborn, the instant New York Times bestseller, Rielle is tasked with proving to the people that she is unequivocally loyal to the crown. She’s also attempting to secretly close the gate to the angels and avoid the devious angel Corien, who haunts her dreams.

In the future, Eliana must figure out how to bring down the empire. But as she continues on her quest, she discovers truths about the past and the angels that will lead her down a dark and devastating path…perhaps to the Blood Queen herself.

Available May 2019

Book Spotlight/ Lulu The Broadway Mouse

Title: LuLu The Broadway Mouse
Author: Jenna Gavigan
Publisher: Running Press Kids
Pages: 256
SYNOPSIS

Ratatouille meets Broadway in this charming new middle grade novel about a little mouse with big dreams.

Lulu is a little girl with a very big dream: she wants to be on Broadway. She wants it more than anything in the world. As it happens, she lives in Broadway’s Shubert Theatre; so achieving her dream shouldn’t be too tricky, right? Wrong. Because the thing about Lulu? She’s a little girl mouse.

When a human girl named Jayne joins the cast of the show at the Shubert as an understudy, Lulu becomes Jayne’s guide through the world of her theatre and its wonderfully kooky cast and crew. Together, Jayne and Lulu learn that sometimes dreams turn out differently than we imagined; sometimes they come with terms and conditions (aka the company mean girl, Amanda). But sometimes, just when we’ve given up all hope, bigger and better dreams than we’d ever thought could come true, do.

Praise for LULU THE BROADWAY MOUSE

“Preteens who are star-struck for Broadway will enjoy the drama.” ―Kirkus Reviews

“Jenna Gavigan is a true Broadway baby whose backstage debut novel will delight theater kids of all ages (and species)!” ―Tim Federle, author ofBetter Nate than Ever

“A standing ovation for Lulu! This delightful debut serves up a sweet and sassy mouse’s-eye view of life in the footlights from a real Broadway insider. Encore, please?” ―Heather Vogel Frederick, author of the Spy Mice, the Mother-Daughter Book Club, and the Pumpkin Falls Mystery series

“Jenna manages to capture the drama and tension and excitement of the theatre without ever losing the magic and joy of what it feels like to be on Broadway. Lulu’s burning desire to be onstage was exactly how I felt when I was younger, and reading this book reawakened that feeling in me!” ―Tony nominee Jonathan Groff

BOOK TRAILER

Sunday’s In Bed With

This is being hosted by two of the sweetest people I have the privilege of knowing in real life, Kate and Kim. Sadly we don’t talk like we use to because you know real life happens but there is not a day that goes by that I don’t think of them both.

Good Morning Everyone. I hope everyone had a good week and a just as good weekend. It’s been a busy weekend here. We started looking at CEGEP’s for my son who will be graduating in 2020. We did our first open house yesterday and wow what an impressive school.

In case your not from Quebec and wondering what CEGEP is I will try and explain it to the best of my ability. High schools in Quebec go from Secondary 1 to 5, everywhere else in Canada it would equal grades 7 to 11. Yes in Quebec we graduate at grade 11. Then CEGEP is to continue your education. Its usually 1 to 2+ years but can be more depending on what you want to study (nursing, document design, architectural technology, animal health, etc. can be studied in a CEGEP), basically a trade or profession. This is sort of preparing you for college/university if you want to study something else.

Hope that made some sense.

Not much reading got done this week because I ended up starting the week really badly. I got a email saying my account was hacked and that just made me sick to my stomach and I didn’t want to me online at all this week. I had no desire to sit, read or even blog . Hopefully its nothing and then again middle of the week I got another one.

This whole thing makes me sick and fed up with scammers. I am just a stay at home mom who loves to read and share my love of books with you. I make no money off my blogging (although I wish I could) and I do it for fun but this week it was not fun. It was stressful. Now hopefully that is behind us and we can move on. Its too bad that they people would use their abilities for good and not bad.

Good Morning Everyone. My fingers are crossed that I am perhaps curled up on the couch reading by the time this goes up (scheduling in advance) but it won’t be for long sadly because we have to attend a church dinner in the far end of the city.

This week was a much slower reading week and that’s due to hockey starting and me having to do everything behind the scenes for the team. Hopefully now that that is resolved and completed I will be able to read more.

Cover Reveal/ The False Series

False Memory
Meli Raine
(False Memory, #1)
Publication date: November 15th 2018
Genres: Adult, Romance, Suspense

It all started with the bereavement flowers with my name on them.

Not the best way to wake up, right? I work in a flower shop. I know a funeral arrangement when I see one.

I know a killer when I see one, too. And one is standing in my hospital room right now, straight behind the man who saved my life.

I can’t tell anyone the truth, because that’s the fastest way to really die. So I do the next best thing. I “lose” my memory.

I fake my amnesia.

Pretending not to remember a brutal attempted murder has its perks. The killer is backing down, spending less time around me, loosening the noose.

The less I claim to recall, the more my rescuer, Duff, works to help me “remember.” I hate lying to him.

But he doesn’t understand that my memory is dangerous. To me. And to him.

Fooling everyone isn’t easy. It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done.

Except it’s starting to look like I’ve been fooling myself.

In more ways than one.
