CD Review/ Mutineers by David Gray

  • Band/Artist: David Gray
  • Title: Mutineers
  • Date: June 17, 2014
  • Label: Kobalt Label Services

One of my other passions apart from reading is listening to music and if you ever visit you will always find music playing. I have always loved music and discovering all kinds of music. My musical interest are all over the page and I am sure I might surprise you with the kinds of music I like listening too.

So when I had the opportunity to listen and review David Gray’s Mutineer’s I instantly jumped at the chance to do so. I have never heard any of David’s music before reviewing this and I have to say that after listening to this cd I think I want to check out his other stuff.

David Gray is an established singer from the UK. Not only is he making is way there but he is a success across the pond.  He did two sold out tours in the US.

Mutineers is David Gray’s tenth studio album. David released his debut album twenty years and its been four years since his last album. When I was looking up David’s bio I was really suprised because I had thought he was some what of a new musician boy was I wrong.

I am sure there is something for everyone on this album and I have to say that I loved every song on the album. David writes and sings in the folk- rock genre and its evident when you listen to this album.

After listening to Mutineers I have to say I don’t have a favorite song because I love the whole cd. Each song is just as good as the previous one and the one thing I can say is that the songs all blend in together.

I just can’t describe the cd and all I can really say is that if I was stuck in an elevator that I would want this to be playing. Another thing I love about Mutineers is that I don’t have to worry when I play it with Michael around like I would other kinds of music. Michael even likes the cd as I have seen him dancing in his seat while its playing.

David Gray has announced the upcoming release of a new album, MutineersThe record is Gray’s tenth studio album and his first in four years. To mark the news, Gray has unveiled the video for ‘Gulls’, the first track from Mutineers to be streamed ahead of release.

To coincide with Mutineers, Gray will tour the UK for the first time in three years. The headline tour, commencing at Birmingham’s Symphony Hall on June 23 will include a show at London’s Royal Albert Hall on June 24. The dates follow a run of sold-out US shows across April and May and three sold-out intimate shows earlier this year at Westminster’s Emmanuel Centre. Additional US tour dates will be announced in May.

Recorded in Church Studios, London and produced by Andy Barlow (Lamb), whose brief was to not let Gray “make the same record I’ve made before.” The result is an album that seems to fizz with the joy of its own assembly and finds Gray steering into unfamiliar territory while cultivating a pugnacious but respectful relationship with his own history. “I know I’ve done something here that has an authority that is inspiring me and I don’t have to worry about my past or any of that. The lovely thing about this is we’ve had the time to experiment, and it’s been wonderful,” says Gray.

David Gray captured the world’s attention with his breakout multi-platinum hit White Ladder, the first of three No.1 UK albums, earning him both Brit and Grammy nominations. He has continued to build on this success, with recent albums Draw The Line (2009) and Foundling (2010), both reaching the Billboard Top 10 in the US.

I am going to include Gull its the first release from the album so that you can an idea of what I mean about his music.

The Book Blogger Test

This morning as I was getting post ready for the week I stumbled upon this fun thing that indiereadergirl0329 shared on her blog and thought I would share it with you guys too.

I am not going to tag anyone but please feel free to share it with your readers and if you do please link back to me so that I can see your replies and comment. So the only rules are that you need to answer truthfully.

What are your three book pet peeves/hates?

  1. Seeing people dog ear their books. This is like nails on a chalk board for me. With having so much around you, you can’t find something to make your page with? I have used a gum wrapper, receipt, bus ticket, straw wrapper and the list goes on and on.
  2. When a new book/series comes out in paperback/trade and it does so well that publishers then puts the rest of the books in that series in hardcover.
  3. Redesign of covers in the series. I love having all my books match and when they decide half way through they want to change it and do the whole series in that theme my books don’t match. I wish that they could envision that series from the get go and keep it the same. Don’t get me going on the movie tie in books.

Describe your perfect reading spot.

dreamreadingroom

This is what my ideal reading spot would look like. I would want huge windows to allow in as much natural light as possible with a view of the beach or forest. I would need a super comfy chair or couch with tons of pillows/cushions and a super soft blanket to curl up in.

Tell us three book confusions.

  1. I am always buying book marks and never use them. I have a little holder on my book case that I put them all in. I probably have close to 100 that are never used. If I see one that is pretty I will buy it.
  2. During the day when I should be doing other things (house work etc) I will sit and read for hours. Shhh don’t tell anyone.
  3. I have spent more money on books then my husband knows. Scholastic book club mostly.

When was the last time you cried during a book?

hmmm I think that would be when I read Undone by Cat Patrick. Jemm is in love with her best friend but he is gay. So this crushes her and then when he is outed online he can’t handle it so he commits suicide. Jemm is heart broken and is hell bent on finding out who did this. It was sound reading this.

undone

How many books are on your night side table?

Right now I have my mini iPad that has books I am reading on it as well as three physical book that are part of a series that I am just about to start for an upcoming review.

What is your favorite snack that you like to eat while you read?

It varies and depends on what is in the house. It could be fruit, yogurt, chips, something sweet or something salty.

Name three books you would recommend.

  1. Extracted by Sherry Ficklin and Tyler Jolley
  2. Anne of Green Gables
  3. Wuthering Heights

In three words write how much books mean to you.

  1. escape
  2. pleasure
  3. fun

What is your biggest reading secret?

I sometimes take on more then I can handle so that will mean sometimes not getting to enjoy the book as much as I would like. As a book blogger sometimes I over book things which is common and don’t really realize it until its too late so I am rushing alot of the time.

So there you go. I hope you enjoyed reading my replies and I look forward to yours.

The end of humanity will come through the Silver Sickle . . .

Farissa lives every moment with reckless abandon, for it may be her last. Any day now, the alien goddesses will harvest her and take her to the mysterious Silver Sickle, never to return. She’s accepted that. What she can’t accept is this new idea of freedom Zel has planted in her head. She’d give almost anything to be with Zel, but how can she run from her destiny if it means putting the whole kingdom in danger?

Everyone in the desert kingdom believes the goddesses are immortal, but Zel has invented a way to kill them. Now all he has to do is convince Farissa to run away with him and plant a seed of hope in her heart that she’s not destined to die. Little does he know that one seed of hope could change the course of the future.
