Meeting up with a blogger

On Saturday I finally got to meet up with Tina from the blog Bookshipper and it was hard to believe that we hadn’t seen each other since coming back from NYC/BEA in June and hoping with the fall that we can get back on track with our monthly meet ups again.

I met Tina at our regular little breakfast place and we feasted on this:

I love having breakfast at this little place. Good food and its a decent price. I am usually quite full afterwards.

During our meal we talked about books, requests, blogs, possiblity of going back to NYC/BEA in May and real life.  I always find in some way, Tina and I have alot in common. Which I think is great.

This time before we ate we made it a point to grab a new photo to add to our posts since its been a long time.

Tina took the picture and after numerous attempts we finally got this one.
Of course no meet up would be complete without an exchange of some kind, (be sure to stalk check out Tina’s blog to see what she got from me) but this is what Tina passed on to me:

~Best Health (summer issue)
~Best Health (September issue)

For Michael:
~#13 R.L. Stine Rotten School Got Cake?
~#15 R.L Stine Rotten School  Dumb Clucks
~#16 R.L Stine Rotten School  Calling all bird brains

Thanks Tina for passing along the magazines, I love reading them and thanks for the books for Michael. I am sure he will enjoy reading them.

My favorite newest item to add to my make up bag

Recently I was in my local pharmacy picking up a few things I needed when I stumbled upon this and automatically saw refillable spray and thought hey this would be perfect for all the little perfume samples I have been getting that come with a cap instead of a spray.

I hate when they send perfume samples and they are with the cap, you know the kind where you open it and half the bottle spills out and your hands smell like perfume after wards.

When I proceed to the cash the lady in cosmetics asked me what kind of perfume I would like  and I had the confused look and she proceeded to tell me that I could fill up this little bottle (which holds 5ml of perfume) with any kind of perfume they had. Wow that was a nice bonus. (This is where I really need to pay attention to what I pick up and read the packaging since I can’t add my own perfume to it LOL)

She said this is basically what they call sampling. I paid $12.99 Canadian for this and whenever my bottle is empty I can go back and fill it up again with whatever I want at no cost. So I am looking forward to being able to use this and perhaps trying some higher end perfume that I might not normally have access to.

So once I decided on what I wanted (sadly I’m not sure what the name was because I told her what I liked and she sprayed it onto a strip and I liked it.) It was really quick to fill up. I love the container its in and being able to see how much perfume is left in the container is a bonus. The one pictured above is the one I have and its in a steel container. They say the average amount of sprays is 50 full sprays.

I am almost tempted to go and buy another one.  I think this would make a perfect gift for the female in your life (wife/girlfriend/friends/nieces/sisters/aunts etc) who love trying perfume and perhaps don’t want to commitment to a full size right away and love trying samples.

Here is the website http://us.travalo.com/ if you would like to check them out.

** Please note that I was in no way compensated for this review. I purchased this product with my own money.**

For fun, take a picture of the book in your bed, or simply write up a post or comment below sharing your Sundays in Bed With book. Quoted from Kate’s blog

This week I am in bed with..

I have been wanting to read this for a little while now and was so happy when I finally got it. I am looking forward to digging into this one tomorrow morning. It will be nice to sleep in a bit and read for awhile because we have no place to really be in the morning.

Hope your having a good weekend and that you manage to find some time read this week.

The Proud Owner of……

Apart from wanting to go to NYC (again in May 2013) there usually isn’t to much that I want because I am pretty content with what I have, but there has been one thing that has been right up there with wanting to go to NYC and its been to get a VERA BRADLEY purse.

I have been wanting one for roughly over two years now. Although I am sure I could have had one sooner had I really checked out the locations of a Vera Bradley store before hand, it was only after I went searching while I was in Lake George for a retail store (close to there) did I spot three where my sister in law lives.

Sadly the closest retail store for me here in Canada is Toronto, which surprises me since Montreal tends to get alot of those little boutiques. Toronto isn’t very close to me and we just never had a reason to go to Toronto.

Thankfully there was a retail store in Queensbury that was selling them so before I left Lake George, I was able to get one. Sadly there wasn’t much of a selection of bags on hand since it was just a small store and the one I had wanted wasn’t available but was told I could order online.

When asked why I had wanted it, I mentioned that it was on sale on the site and then he showed me the above bag. Its being discontinued so the price was cheaper so I took some time looking at the bag and the more I looked at it the more I was liking it. Its a perfect summer bag.

The purse is actually called On The Go in Rosy Posies .

A versatile twist on the “everyday bag,” this timeless hobo style is accessorized with trim in front and a tortoise buckle on the adjustable strap. Side slip pockets (with decorative flap accents) and a large zippered one in back. Three more slip pockets, plus a sturdy removable base.

When I got home I started to have a little buyers remorse but once I started to use the purse I grew to really like it. I love that its not to big and bulky and it holds quite a bit of stuff without it feeling heavy and weighed down.

I did check and it could fit me as a cross the body bag but it just doesn’t feel that comfy. The strap is adjustable to give you varies purse styles. I have mine right now with the shortest straps. I love the tortoise buckle on the strap because it blends in very well with the purse.

The two side pockets are small but its the perfect place to carry hand sanitizer and if you are shopping to shove your car keys in. Which I have done several times.

Another selling point is inside the bag, there is three pockets on one side of the purse to hold a cell phone, gum and other things you might need and don’t want to dig for.

I love the zippered pocket in the back of the purse because its a great place to hold some cash or change.

I have to admit that I tend to carry alot of things in my purses and it was nice to see that I could carry my phone, keys, camera, a small make up bag and it not be weighed down.

The best thing about the Vera Bradley bags are they are all machine washable. How neat is that?

I just wish I would have gotten in sooner because fall is coming and it makes me want to get another one but in a darker fall/winter shade.

Perhaps Santa will bring one for me.

(Review) Fallenmore

Title: Fallenmore (The second book in the Feathermore Trilogy)
Author: Lucy Swing
Publisher: Self Pub
Pub Date: July 2012

Source: I received an ebook for a honest and sincer review.

Photobucket

I am a huge fan of Lucy and her books. I was first introduced to Lucy when I read a short story she did in an anthology and since then I have been lucky enough to read her book Feathermore which is the first book in the trilogy. So when she contacted me to see if I would be interested in taking part in the blog tour for this book I quickly said yes. I was so curious to see where this would go since I loved Feathermore.

Fallenmore begins right where Feathermore left off which I love. Blake is now living with Jade and he is determined to protect her as best as he can. The thing with Jade is she now is hearing a new voice and its warning her not to trust Blake. She is so confused and not sure what is real and whats not.

I am so happy that Lucy brought Blake out more because I was curious about him when he briefly appeared in Feathermore. It was nice to find out more about Blake. I have to say that I kinda like Blake. If he could be my book boyfriend I would be thrilled because he is the kind of guy I like. The reason I say this is because he is determined to protect Jade and living with her he has taken on a role of care giver (making her breakfast) and he is always there for her.

You can see that it breaks his heart because no matter what he is doing and does for Jade she doesn’t realize how much he cares about her because she is still hung up on another guy, Avan. I really wish that Jade would get over Avan and realize how much sweeter Blake is.

I loved reading this book and I had to pace myself because I could tell I was reading it to fast. I wanted to savoir the book and the characters. I can’t wait for the final book to come out which I hope in a way is soon although I am sad to see the series end.

I have to say that this is one author and her books that I highly recommend.

Thanks so much Lucy for contacting me about being a part of the tour and for sending me an eBook to read and review.

Writing with kids during summer

By Lucy Swing

Summer. The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, kids laughter feels the air. But for writers, it may not be all beautiful and fun all the time.

During the summer of 2011 I decided I wanted to write a book. Yes, just like that. After reading the Twilight saga (hey you! Yes, you. I saw you roll your eyes at the mention of Twilight. Watch it! Hehe) I was addicted. I became a YA junkie.

I always had ideas for a book (don’t we all?) but never got any further than the first couple of pages before I gave up. Writing is a lot of work, and not everyone understands this. Anyway, I wrote the first draft of Feathermore during that summer. I really wanted this and needed to see it through, even if my MS would never see the light of day.

Having kids complicates the art of writing, especially over the summer. When I wrote Feathermore I was out all day playing the role of Mommy and then, would stay until the wee hours of the night, or morning however you want to see it, writing. This summer though, has been kicking my ass. I am not sure why, either. Maybe it’s because my kids are older and need different/more things to entertain themselves, or maybe I can’t juggle as much as I could last year, I don’t know. But the fact is, my writing has been almost non-existent.

I try to do the same schedule I did last year. Take the kids to the beach or the water park in the morning and then stay home in the afternoon (in Naples, FL by 2pm the clouds roll in and storms for the rest of the afternoon. I’m not kidding. It doesn’t fail.) But I am finding the kids and myself sleeping in late, so by the time we wake up we only have a few hours of sun. And everything seems to get pushed over, and by the time night comes, I am so beat up, all I can think is of sleep.

But! I was lucky enough that my mother took the kids for a few days last week and I was able to finish re-writing Fallenmore. I had become a ball of stress, and well, still am, but at least Fallenmore is now complete and out!

How do you do it? Do you have a routine or a way to make it all work and not work yourself to the ground?

“What are you doing?” Blake’s voice came from somewhere in the staircase.

I froze a few feet away from the front door and turned, very slowly, to glare up at him. I extended my arm on my side and opened my hand. Like metal to a magnet, a pair of car keys came flying into the palm of my hand. Never once breaking eye contact, I responded, “To finish what I started.” Then I shot him a smile.

The front door swung open without me even touching it, but before I could reach it, Blake was before me; the door closing shut behind him. “No, you’re not.”

“Who—Do you—Think—You—Are?” My voice was low and guttural, something I had too, never experienced before. Then again, I was in uncharted territory now.

“You don’t want to do this. You’re not thinking clearly.” He lowered his voice, but I still heard what he said next. “I knew I should have kept the restraints on you.” His hand wound up on my shoulder, the act was a mixture of warning and threat all wrapped up in one and in a blur of fast movements, I had him with his back on the hardwood floor.

He wasn’t going to tell me what to do. I’ve gone along with people doing that for far too long, and it was time for it to stop. “Claire should be expecting what’s coming for her.” I let go of him with one last shove and opened the door. There, on the driveway, was a silver BMW. “Nice car.” I said over my shoulder as I walked away. But, where was my Dad’s truck? My truck?!

“You don’t want to fall, Jade. Trust me.” He yelled from inside the house, but I wasn’t stopping. Nothing could stop me now.

“Oh, but I already fell. Maybe not literally,” I said softly, knowing he could hear me just fine even from several feet away and I shrugged my shoulders, “but give me about an hour or so.” The car lights blinked twice and I heard the doors unlock.

“If you fall, it won’t be you anymore. He will own you and you have no idea what that is like. You will turn into someone completely different, and I’m sorry, but I can’t let you do it.”

He was suddenly right behind me with his arms around me, keeping my own arms at either side of my body. I wiggled in a futile attempt to get away from him, but it was no use, he wouldn’t budge. Unable to move away from him, I stilled, if he wanted a fight, he would get a fight. “You don’t want to do this, Jade. Not really.” That was all I heard before the darkness of the night that danced freely around us consumed me.”

**Check back later this morning for my review on Fallenmore.**

(Blog Tour & Giveaways) Fallenmore Promo

I was so excited when Lucy contacted me asking if I would be interested in being on the blog tour for her latest book, which just happens to be the second book in her Feathermore trilogy called Fallenmore. I quickly said yes because I love Lucy’s books.

About the book:
When darkness consumes you; will it be hard to find the light?

After Jade’s world was torn apart, she is unsure of where she belongs, if anywhere at all. Deceived by those she trusted the most, she must now accept her fate and the life that lays before her.
The voices are back but this time, they are trying to lure her into the darkness. But could they be telling her the truth? That the only person she has been able to trust since the death of her boyfriend, Avan, is lying to her too? If the voices are right… Could she really trust him?

In Fallenmore, the second book in the Feathermore Trilogy, Jade will embark in a quest through the pits of Hell. The question now is: once she is in, will they ever let her out?
