Lip Factory Inc October Edition

This is the October product card.
I have stumbled upon another beauty box subscription service. This one is called Lip Factory Inc and I should let you know before I begin this review that I actually purchased this subscription service and I’m not being compensated in anyway for this review. I just thought I would share what I got from them.

Before I begin let me tell you a little bit about Lip Factory Inc.
  • Based out of the US but they do ship to Canada and International.
  • Its $22 a month (recurring charges) shipping is included in that for US and Canada. There is an additional fee outside that area.
  • You can expect to receive 10 sample sizes from some of your favorite make up brands.
  • You could receive a full face make up kit and you will always get lip products such as lip glosses, lip sticks, lip liners, etc because its all about the lips.
  • The website is easy to navigate and what I love so far is that there is always a video or photos online called tutorials so you know how to use your month’s box.

So lets get on with the October box shall we.

I should let you know that coming into Canada it could take a little longer due to customs.

As you can see the packaging is very pretty and classic in my opinion. It comes in a plain brown box but inside you are greeted with this:

I love the white and black print paper. Plus the design is really nice. There is nothing bright here.
What I really liked right away was seeing that little hand written note thanking me for my subscription. I think this says alot about a company.

When there was a delay in shipping they instantly contacted me right away via an email to apologize and I thought that was really nice on their part because so many of the beauty boxes don’t do that so this gives you a great first impression on the company.

They offered me a tshirt and I replied back with my size and it was included in the box.

Thanks Lip Factory for sending this out to me.

When I lifted up this package I could feel some weight to it and was instantly curious to open it and see what was there.

The first things I pulled out was this months product card which changes monthly.

The next item was this Make Up For Ever HD Primer foil sample.
Another foil sample is this Murad Hydrate Essential C Day Moisture and I believe this is a bonus item.
Then there is the Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist samples.
As you can see there is 4 various shades of lipstick in those little pods. So far the first and the last one are my favorites.
All new subscribers get this Kabuki brush (most commonly used to apply dry, powder-based makeup such as foundation or blush). Its a nice soft brush and I like that its retractable and comes like this. Great for traveling.
I got 2 Ultimo Mineral eye shadows in the same shade Expresso. Although I think I was suppose to get a different color. Its a nice brown shade that I am excited to try.
A brand I know and really like is the Mark line (Avon) and they included this little sample of Glow Baby Glow Luxe lip gloss. It smelled like candy which I loved but I found myself always licking my lips when I put this on.
Since subscribing to a few (whistles innocently) beauty boxes I have discovered a love for the Benefit cosmetics so I was thrilled when they included this ChaCha Tint. I believe this was a bonus item as well since its not marked on my card or online.
Something that is new to me is Korres products. I got a sample of their lip gloss in Cherry Lip Gloss high shine. This smelled like cherries.

Instut’ Dermed Clarifying Cleanser. I haven’t tried this one yet and hoping to get to this very soon.

No make up box would be complete without a mascara and this is Clinique’s High Impact Mascara. Its in black and I believe this was another bonus item. I haven’t opened this yet since I have quite a few mascara’s going.
As you might know I am always unsure about Eye Pencils and never quite sure what to do with them or how to use them so I am hoping that after watching some videos I will know what to do. The shade I got is Plum 1645 and its by H2O Plus.
I have to say this scares the beejesus out of me. Its a NYX Extreme Blue Liquid Liner. Not sure if I would use this but perhaps if an occassion occurred I might be willing to use it.
So this is what I got and I have to say I am really impressed. I have seen one other blog post about this and they got different items. I am excited to try these all out.
Before I forget they also include these little brushes with each beauty kit. I think this would be perfect for traveling. I think the idea behind this is in case you don’t have the brushes  you have something to work with which I think is a neat idea and in the video’s the artist will use the same brushes.

The above picture is all the swatches I did. They are in order from top to bottom: Korres Cherry Lip gloss, ChaCha Tint, Glow Baby Glow Luxe, Expresso eye shadow, Plum liner and the Extreme Blue liquid liner.

What do you think of this beauty subscription service? Is this something that interests you?

(Meme) Sunday’s In Bed With…..#20

I am working on getting some posts scheduled in advance and figured I would add a  Sundays In Bed With…. post since its going to be a busy weekend this weekend.

The awesome blogger behind this is Kate from Midnight Book Girl   not only is she an awesome blogger but she is was one of my roommates for BEA. YAY!!

Midnight Book Girl

Sundays In Bed With….is a meme I’ve started to share the book we’re spending the morning in bed with, or the one we’d like to stay curled up in bed with all Sunday if only our busy lives would allow! For fun, take a picture of the book in your bed, or simply write up a post or comment below sharing your Sundays in Bed With book. Quoted from Kate’s blog.

I didn’t get to stay in bed to read this morning because Michael had to be at his Faith First class this morning and I really need to go and do groceries while he was there.

So I am still reading Alice in Zombieland. I am about half way through it and hoping to finish it this week. Sadly not much reading got down this past week due to things happening in my personal life. I am making the effort to try and finish this up because its been too long.

I have also been going through this one:

I will have my review up for this, this week.

What will you be reading today and this week?

Q & A with Catherine McKenzie

Today I am so happy to have Catherine McKenzie on my blog for a third time doing a Q&A with me.

Catherine is promoting her US release of Forgotten.

My review is following this post, I hope you will check it out and let me know if you read this or are planning on reading this.

Now onto my interview with Catherine. Please help me welcome Catherine to the blog today.

Cindy: I noticed that the cover of Forgotten has a Canadian cover and a US cover, why is that? Which one do you prefer more?

Catherine McKenzie: The publishers choose the cover and they choose the cover that they think will work best in their market. I like both of them!

Cindy: I’m not sure which one I like more since they both fit the book very well. If you had the chance to go back and do something over again would you? Or would you leave it alone?

Catherine McKenzie: I think it’s best to look forwards, but everyone has regrets.

Cindy: I agree that we all have regrets, although thre is a few things I wish I could do over again. How did you come up with this storyline? Its so different from your previous books.

Catherine McKenzie: I heard a story about a woman who had been stuck in Africa for six months and when she returned someone was living in her apartment. I don’t know anymore about her but I thought it was an intriguing premise.

Cindy: That sounds so interesting and I am sure its happened to people that we just never heard about before. Are you currently working on anything? If so when do you think it will be out?

Catherine McKenzie: I have written my fourth book and it will be out next summer in Canada.

Cindy: I am so excited I can’t wait for your next book to come out. Are you currently reading anything? If so, what?

Catherine McKenzie: I just read Marisa de los Santos’ Falling Together, which was great, and Tyler Hamilton’s autobiography The Secret Race which I also really enjoyed.

Catherine they both sound like great reads and I feel so bad that I have yet to read a Marisa de los Santos book. One day soon.

Thanks so much for stopping by and taking the time out of your busy schedule to do this Q&A with me. You know I truly appreciate it and I love having you on the blog please feel free to stop by anytime.

(Review & Tour) Forgotten

Title: Forgotten
Author: Catherine McKenzie
Pub Date: October 2012 (USA) April 2012 (Canada)
Pages: 376
Publisher: William Morrow

Source: I purchased the book

About The Book:
Emma Tupper is a dedicated lawyer with a bright future. But when she takes a month-long leave of absence to go on an African vacation, she ends up facing unexpected consequences. After she falls ill and spends six months trapped in a remote village thanks to a devastating earthquake, Emma returns home to discover that her friends, boyfriend, and colleagues thought she was dead—and that her life has moved on without her.
As she struggles to re-create her old life, throwing herself into solving a big case for a client and trying to reclaim her beloved apartment from the handsome photographer who assumed her lease, everyone around her thinks she should take the opportunity to change. But is she willing to sacrifice her job, her relationships, and everything else she worked so hard to build?
In Forgotten, Catherine McKenzie tweaks a classic tale of discovering who we really are when everything that brings meaning to our lives is lost.

Photobucket

I bought the Canadian copy of this book when it came out in April and actually only read it on my way to BEA in June this year. As you can see I was late in posting a review (actually I had a rough draft sitting in a post) so when Catherine contacted me asking if I would want to be part of the tour for Forgotten I quickly said yes. I have been a part of Catherine’s previous two book tours ( SPIN and ARRANGED ) so I am happy to finally review her third book and help her promote it.

I am going to admit that it was a little slow for me to begin with and I think that was because I was distracted by reading this on the train on my way to NYC but once I got into the book I started to enjoy it.

Emma Tupper is a young lawyer on the fast track to becoming partner in the law firm she works in. Things are going good until her mother get ills and dies. Emma’s world is rocked and she is forced to make a tough decision, continue working or accept the gift her mother has left her.

Emma’s mother has left Emma a plane ticket to Africa, a place her mother has always wanted to go to but never got the chance. When she approaches the law firm with this they are not very happy and discourage her leaving because she is just what the firm needs. In the end Emma decides to go on this month long journey.

Not long into her trip Emma gets sick on the tour (so much so that she can’t continue) and is left behind in a little remote village to recouperate. Then as she is getting better and is trying to get back home they are hit with an earthquake. Her little one month adventure ends up turning into a six month adventure.

She is finally able to get back home but soon realizes that her bank account is frozen and that is because she was presumed dead since she never returned on her return date and the tour company never reported that Emma was sick so when the village was struck with the earthquake they all presumed Emma died in that. If that doesn’t make things worse her apartment has been rented out to another person (Dominic), all her friends (even her boyfriend) have moved on and all her belongs are now gone.  Life as Emma knows it has changed drastically. Will she be able to get back on track?

If you were given the chance to live your life over again would you do it the same way or make changes? Emma wants her old life back (even her boyfriend) and tries hard to do that but eventually realizes that perhaps she should go with the changes people around her suggest. I know as I was reading this I wanted Emma to see Dominic in a new way and not just as a friend.

I am always fascinated with these kinds of storylines because I always wonder if I was given the chance to do a do over would I? I guess it would depend, would you?

Thanks Catherine for asking me to be a part of this book tour. I am anxiously awaiting your next book which I hope comes out soon.

Check back a little later for my interview with Catherine.

Mini Michael’s Craft Store Haul

I finally went into my very first Michael’s craft store recently. Yes you read that right, I have never been in one and that was mainly because we didn’t have any in Quebec and I believe the closest one for me would have been in Ontario or the US.

I think the reason I never went into one was because there was none here in Quebec but thankfully they finally came into Quebec with not one, or two but three stores here in the Montreal area. They are all within driving distance for me (roughly 10 to 30 minutes by car).

Since I had the car and Michael was in school I decided to drive out to the one that was possibly the closest one to me (although my GPS lead me a longer way which took a little longer but now that I know where it is its all good). With Michael in school I was able to walk around the entire store and look at almost everything. I made it a point to check out all the aisles.

I found some awesome little goodies:

I spotted this beautiful shell and quickly put it in my basket as this is now my newest soap dish for the bathroom. The other items are all jewelry pieces. Apart from the three pack owl pendants which will be made into bookmarks once I get the pieces I need.

I also grabbed some tealights for my wax burner. Along with a bunch of Owl items such as the ribbon which are going to be bookmarks eventually when I get the pieces I need along with some various stickers, scrapbook paper and the scissors. I also spotted the creative tags which I am thinking of doing something bookish with them.

I was a little bummed cause I thought the chain I bought would have fit the other owl too but it doesn’t so I need to look for a chain for that. I have been wearing this owl necklace all week and have been getting a few compliments on it.

Then with the other beads I made this bracelet although I really don’t care for the bracelet itself. I think its because I am use to the other kind of bracelets.

So that was my little mini Michael’s haul and I was really impressed with the owl items I found and I am thinking of eventually checking out the other two Michael stores in my area.

Are you a big Michael’s shopper? Crafter? Jeweler?

October’s Make Up Haul

I was going to save this until the end of the month but Lucy from Moonlight Gleam’s asked me if I would post this earlier. So I am.

She graciously helped me out with this with her fantastic recommendations. Lucy is turning into my go to friend for make up advice and recommendations.

Just a heads up but this haul is quite massive but that is only because the other night I found out that I had accumulated enough Pharmaprix Optimum points that I could redeem them.

When I was on the Pharmaprix website I saw this promo for the  Fall Beauty Bonus. When you spend $125 or more on cosmetics, skin care or fragrances you will get a silver cosmetic case filled with 13 luxury beauty and fragrance samples for free. The kit is valued at $137.

The offer is valid from October 13th to October 26th, 2012 and its while qualities last.

I had enough points that I could take advantage of this so I figured why not since its basically completely free since I was able to redeem my points. Although a few items I had to put back because they didn’t fall into that category to qualify me for the freebie so I here is what I picked up:

The first item Lucy recommended was a foundation cause my old one had expired and I have been looking for something to replace it with and nothing has come close so I figured I would give her recommendation a try.

I needed a new concealer and decided that with all the skin issues I have been having recently (see my previous post) I figured I would stick within the same line so I picked up this Bourjois Healthy Mix in number 61 Beige Clair.

I found out that if you wear a liquid foundation that you should set your make up. I didn’t get Lucy recommendation (perhaps next time) but I stayed within the Bourjois Healthy Balance line and got the Unifying Powder (10 hour) in the shade of 52 Vanilla
I really like the smell of this line and it doesn’t smell like normal make up which is really nice in my opinion.
This is the foundation Lucy recommended and its the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum. Its in the shade of 51 Light Vanilla. This was the perfect blend for my skin tone.
The top is the powder and it doesn’t look that like this person. The swatches are the foundation and the concealer. (In that order). I have to admit that I was always very unsure of liquid foundation in the past and always went for the powdered stuff but honestly why haven’t I used it before? I really liked the coverage and the blending of it. I love the smell of this line and I think eventually I would like to try more products in this line.
I decided to try two nail polishes from this brand and picked up: Cerise Noir (#21) and Beige Glamour (#27)
Here is the swatches of the polishes. The Cerise Noir is one coat and Beige Glamour is with one coat and two coats. (in that order) which are very nice shades.  The Cerise Noir is darker in person.
Rounding up that purchase I decided since this was basically free that I should splurge and buy some good eye shadow so I decided on the Benefit’s kit. This is the peek-a-bright eyes kit. I have tried previous Benefit products from my various sample boxes and loved the brand so I fugured why not.

So in order there is an eye bright (pink), shadow base (beige), contour shadow (dark brown), highlight shadow (dusty rose like) and included was two brushes a concealer and contour & liner. I love the packaging of this very girly and its a magnetic closing so no fumbling trying to open it in a rush or in the early morning.

I wish that other items could have been included in this promo but thankfully they had a sale on the following items so I took advantage of them.
I was told that a good mascara to wear during the day to make your lashes more natural and not in your face that you should wear a brown so I don’t have a brown but tons of black so I picked this up its the Covergirl Natural Luxe mousse mascara. I have to say that they were right. It was perfect for the daytime and it made my lashes pop without it being in your face.
This was another item Lucy highly recommended and its the Rimmel lipstick. Its in the shade of Airy Fairy #070. I have to say that I normally don’t wear lipstick (mainly because I have a hard time picking out good ones and the right shade) but with this one Lucy was right on target and I love it. It gives you some color but not alot.
This is the swatch of it. Its very nice and I like the texture and smell of it (not sure how to describe the smell of it but its really nice). This is now my go to day item.

So I was able to use up my points to qualify for the Fall Beauty Bonus.

I was really impressed with the size of this make up bag. Its huge as you can see. I probably won’t use this to travel with but I think it will be great to put it in a dresser to hold items not used all the time.
This pouch is removable so this probably can be used to travel with.
This screen holds the bottom contents in place without worrying of them falling out or going all over the place.
I loved how the products were placed in this Ziploc baggie and not loose all over the place. The booklet was great in talking about all the products and its Pharmaprix’s (shoppers drug marts) favorite items.
I decided to group them into categories and this is the skin care line.
~Lab Series is a multi-action face wash for guys.
~Korres Pomegranate deluxe mattifing Treatment
~Strivectin Power Serum Total Powerhouse (anti aging treatment)
~Clarins Hydraquench cream gel
~Elizabeth Arden Prevage Face Advanced anti-aging Serum
~Biotherm Lait Corporel Body Milk
~Lise Watier age control supreme the eye care
This is the scents.
~Elizabeth Arden Red Door Aura. I loved the smell of this and I know I will be wearing this alot. It says that this a new expression of the iconic signature of Red Door. It maintains the vibrancy of New York with a sensual and sophisticated melange of rich florals.
~Coach Poppy eau de Parfume. This is another scent I really like. Its a fruity floral, cucumber flower petals, mandarin and bright baby freesia buds, while leaving behind a lasting, sensual blend of cedarwood, sandalwood, vanilla creme and whipped marshmallow blend. I tried this one and at first I didn’t really like it but once it wore on I grew to really like it. Another item I will be wearing alot of this fall.
~Taylor Swift Wonderstruck body lotion. Another nice scent and it left my skin silky smooth. I think I would wear this in place of days I didn’t want to use perfume.
Now the make up. Yea…
~Lancome La Base Pro. This is a make up primer.
~ Smashbox photo finish foundation primer. I love that you can wear this alone or under foundation. This smelled really good and I loved the coverage and how it looked. I wore this without make up one day and perhaps I will try it with foundation.
~Last but not least is Benefits They’re Real Mascara. Not sure of the shade but I think its black.

If you remember I recently got this in one of my beauty boxes and loved it. So I am happy I got another one as a back up. I know right now they have a promo for this with a get a full size and a travel size for under $30 but I didn’t get this because I have alot of mascaras waiting to be used.

So this is my make up haul. If you want anything reviewed please leave me a comment below and I will do one.

Do you redeem your Optimum points for these kinds of deals?

**I also was going to include my previous posts haul in this but thought it would be too confusing so I left it out.**

New Skin Care Routine

Growing up, I always had to deal with acne and had hoped that eventually it would stop but low and behold it doesn’t, at least not in my case.

Over the past year or so it seems like every other month is worse and this past month was no exception so I decided to use Kellett’s Clarifying Acne Treatment. Which was a sample I got in one of my beauty box subscription services lately.

Since I am fair skin I only went with one application instead of two. Well sadly it was the first and last time I will ever use it. I ended up tossing it into the garbage.

If you are a reader of my blog you know I never say anything negative about anything but this time is the exception and I am only basing this on my experience with the product.

Like I said I got this for free in one of my beauty subscription boxes and I am not obligated to review any of the products since I physically paid for the boxes.

With this break out I decided that I would try the Kellett’s Clarifying Acne treatment to see if it would clear it up. Well I had no sooner put it on when it began to feel like it was burning, I decided to wait a bit since I thought that perhaps thats what it was suppose to do but when it began to burn and itch I immediately washed it off.

It was a rough night because all I kept doing was scratching my face. In the morning it was red and I had more break outs and nothing I did seemed to help or get rid of the burning itch and the dry flakiness that had appeared. I tried to conceal it but it didn’t help. This was a hot mess on my face and I didn’t like it.

I went to my pharmacy to see if they could recommend something before deciding if I need to do to my drs and thankfully a fantastic lady told me about this:

Its La Roche-Posay skin line. She told me that the prickling and redness was because my skin no longer tolerates the application of that product and its called Intolerant Skin and right now its hyper sensitive.

She was fantastic with telling me all about this particular line and that it should work. I was worried that this was going to be expensive and she could see it on my face and quickly let me know that she thought there was a kit available to try and she found one so I bought it.

I quickly came home to try it and right away I noticed that it wasn’t as burning and itchy as it was before. I washed my face with warm water and applied the cleanser, gently tapped my face with a towel before spraying the spring water on my face (which I have to say was hard to get use to at first because you can’t get it into your eyes) and then I finished off with the soothing cream.

The next morning when I looked in the mirror it appeared much better, there wasn’t as much redness as the night before. I instantly noticed a difference that next day after using it and gradually the past few days the hot mess is now getting much better.

I wish I would have taken a picture of this hot mess but I was totally embarrassed by it. I felt like I was in high school all over again. I kept my head down and didn’t go out like I normally do and tried to cover it up the best I could.

I really like these products and I think I will go back and perhaps speak to that lady again about finding out what is good for my face and continuing that as my new skin care line.

What is your go to skin care? Have you tried this before?

Please note I was in no way compensated for this review. I purchased these products with my own money.
