15 Day Book Blogger Challenge..Day 3 (Blogging BFF’s)

I am finally back from my exciting vacation and at the time of writing this I am suffering from jet lag and I was told for every hour in time difference it takes that in days to get back to normal. So for me the time difference was 6 hours.

We are practically falling asleep on the couch in the evenings at 6pm and I have been waking up at 2am. Its been brutal and the days are long. Thankfully things are slowly getting back to normal and I think Michael has been really lucky and its going faster for him.

Anyways when I got back home and started checking my blog I kept seeing a bunch of bloggers I follow taking part in April’s ( Good Book Good Wine ) 15 Day Book Blogger Challenge . I was quickly intrigued so I had to head over to see what it is about.

Granted I am late in starting this but it was nice to see that April is keeping this going for awhile so yay. Its never to late to sign up and start all you have to do is head over to the 15 Day Book Blogger Challenge to find out how to get started.

Today’s topic is:

Who are your blogging BFF’s?

I have been so lucky in my almost five years of blogging to meet so many fantastic ladies that I consider friends for life.

So if you follow my blog you will know who they are. I hate making lists of people as you may already know so you know who you are.

Every one I have met has been fantastic and great friends and I honestly never would have thought when I started blogging almost five years ago that I would have that many great friends online who are always so helpful with offering me tips, advice or knowledge about blogging, books, etc.

Do you have any blogging BFF’s?

Guest Post/ Traveling For Love by Becky Due

Finding Our Passion

When we find our passion in life, everything else falls into place. Once we discover what we love, it is up to us to figure out a way to make it an important part of our lives—that’s the tough part. As challenging as it is to make that transition, the rewards are endless. We don’t necessarily want to live a life others have dictated for us—How liberating to shoot for the dream deep in our heart and soul.

I’ve always had a passion for writing but didn’t realize I could make writing my career until my late twenties when I became brave enough to let somebody read my work. The encouragement I received paved the way for me to make writing my life.

Finding our passion can sometimes be a process of elimination while for others, knowing their passion is as natural as breathing. If we’re not the lucky ones, there are a few questions we can ask ourselves to get the ideas flowing and explore our path.

· What did I like to do when I was young?
· What was I good at when I was younger?
· What am I good at now?
· In what classes did I excel during school?
· What classes did I enjoy most?
· What do I love to watch on TV? Cooking, home decorating, crime investigation, sports, politics or fashion programs?
· What is my hobby?

Once we know our passion, research and figure out how we’re going to incorporate it into our life. We may decide to jump right in and tell our family and friends, change our major, tell our spouse, and start looking for a job that is in line with makingour passion our career. Luckily, we don’t have to change our entire life to support our passion. For example, we might remember how much we loved roller-skating when we were younger, so we get some skates, maybe some pads, a helmet and wrist guards and we start skating again. And by doing something we love, we might just get a little healthier in mind and body.

Going for the dream may seem simple from the outside looking in but it is a scary endeavor. Self-doubt, fear, and limited support can hold us back. I’ve experienced all of it and that’s usually when distractions creep in—I can’t write today, I have to clean the garage or learn how to play the guitar or become a yoga instructor. It is important to stay focused on what we want sowe keep the distractions and negativity away, we’re one step closer to our goal every day, and our self-esteem grows.

Finding our passion and going for our dream, just might be the key to happiness. We have to have faith in ourselves, discover our passion, get support, spend time with people who have similar goals and interests and possibly search for a mentor. We don’t want to sit back and wonder, what if…Maybe it’s time we are brave, stand up for ourselves and take some chances. Like Les Brown says, “Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.”

I just want to thank Becky for taking the time out of her busy touring schedule to sit down and do this guest post for me. I loved having you stop by to visit and I will definetly have to pick your book now its sounds amazing.

I love the quote by Les Brown. Its a great quote and so very true.

Thanks to Dorothy at Pump Up Your Book for arranging this tour and book spotlight for me.

Make 15 Book Related Confessions

  1. If you know me in my real life you know that I am very anal about my books. If I lend a book out I expect the book to come back in the condition it went out in and if it doesn’t then I won’t let that person borrow again.
  2. I admit that I probably have more books then I know what to do with and I am okay with that because they will eventually be read.
  3. I admit I sometimes will buy a book just because the cover is beautiful.
  4. When I first started blogging I experience TBR guilt but over the years I am okay with it more so if they are my own books that I bought.
  5. I hate when publishers switch the format of the books. Ie you start reading in paperback and it becomes a hit and they switch to hardback.
  6. I am so bad about writing a review when I am done the book.
  7. If I discover a new book will be a part of a series I tend to wait until they are all out before reading them.
  8. I always read before going to bed at night.
  9. I am really good with passing my books along when I am done with them if I don’t want to keep it.
  10. If I lend a book, I really expect it to be returned unless I specifically tell you differently. So many books haven’t been returned and that saddens me because they are books I really wanted to keep in my collection.
  11. Every 6 months I tend to clean up my collection. I will go through it and reorganize the books and decide if they are still to be reads and if not then they are passed along to friends or the library.
  12. The scholastic book club forms from the school are my downfall and I tend to order quite a few books from there in the school year.
  13. I take advantage of our public library quite a bit over the year but more so in the summer. Its a great way to read a new release book you just heard about without spending the money.
  14. I never ever dog ear a book (my own or a library book). If I am starting a book and I need to mark my page I will use what ever I have on hand.
  15. Finally my last confession is, is that I totally get so jealous of the bloggers who get to attend so many great author events in there city or book conferences. Sadly here in Montreal not alot of authors come here and conferences for book bloggers never happen.
Do you share any of these confessions?

BOOK EXCERPT:
Excerpted from Down and Out in Beverly Heels by Kathryn Leigh Scott, ©Montlake Romance 2013

Actress Meg Barnes, homeless and living in her car, hopes to spend the night in a safer place than parked at the curb of a local park for the night. She needs a good night’s sleep because she’s got a job guest-starring in a TV pilot.

I park up the street in a cul de sac off the main road. Then, my overnight bag slung on my shoulder, I slip through a break in a boxwood hedge. In the shadow of a sycamore tree, I pause, listening to the sounds of the night. The lights are off in Marjorie Singleton’s house, my benefactor tucked in for the night. I don’t know Marjorie well, though whenever I voted, it was in Marjorie’s clean, spacious garage, her Bentley parked on the street to make way for a bank of polling booths on election day. I’m sure Marjorie, if she knew, would be only too happy to extend a neighborly welcome to me.
It’s Wednesday: Marjorie’s son, who lives in Encino, is home with his family and won’t stop by again until Friday afternoon, when he’ll bring her Chinese takeaway. I know the rituals; I’ve watched Jake Singleton come and go. This is a safe night, and all is quiet.

I follow the flagstone walkway around the swimming pool, past the rose bed, and turn the knob on the side door to the garage. It’s unlocked, as usual. Inside, I slip quietly along the west wall to the workbench Marjorie’s long-dead husband built, and set down my carryall. I plug my laptop and cellphone into a wall outlet to top up, then move through the darkness to Marjorie’s Bentley. She rarely drives it anymore.

I toss my sleeping bag into the back seat. Tonight I can pack in a good six hours and be gone before the gardeners arrive. On those nights when I’ve had to spend the night in my own car, I remain fully clothed, doors locked, windows open no more than a finger-tip wide.

Usually I find a spot on the street around Holmby Park, the gates to Aaron Spelling’s mansion within spitting distance. Should his ghostly presence be hovering above his former abode, I can imagine his bemusement seeing me camping out a stone’s throw from his old bedroom window. I still get residuals from his shows, blessed checks from repeats of mindless fluff that pay my car insurance and buy me another month at the health club. But those nights parked on the street, hiding under spread newspapers, even with the tinted windows, are the tough ones, the only time it really hits me that I’m homeless.

More accurately, I am without a home. I am not actually a Homeless Person. I always manage to have a roof over my head, even if it comes with four wheels and a dashboard. I’m not a bag lady, a bum. I’m not a thief, though I suppose I’ve stolen a few pennies’ worth of kilowatt juice from Marjorie. But the back seat of an old lady’s car is only temporary accommodation, not Home, Sweet Home. I awaken too often in the night, dozing more often than sleeping.
I slide my legs deeper into my sleeping bag and hug my arms for warmth, trying to stop the rat-wheel of worry spinning in my head. I am far from complacent about the fix I’m in, yet I manage to drift off in welcome sleep.

Moments later—or is it hours?—I’m fully awake and alert, every fiber of my being a listening device. What is it? What did I hear? My heart bangs in my ears as I strain to sort out the sounds. The irrigation system kicking in? A squirrel on the roof?

Hearing footsteps falling softly on the flagstone walk, I slide free of my sleeping bag. Who’s coming for me? Who in hell knows I’m here? My fingers close around a small can of pepper spray. I don’t even know that the aerosol works. The container is old and I’ve never had occasion to test it.
The garage door scrapes open. A beam of light arcs across the windshield. A male voice booms. “C’mon out. Now!”

… It’s my Margot Kidder nightmare, a“caught-in-the-headlights” shot of myself disheveled, my arms clutching a sleeping bag, splashed on the cover of a supermarket tabloid: “Former ‘Holiday’ Star Down and Out in Beverly Hills!”

Tears sting my cheeks. Wouldn’t the paparazzi love this shot? Jinx, face puffy, mascara smudged, lurking in someone’s garage. I press my forehead into my sleeping bag, recalling poor Margot, missing her front teeth and in need of meds, cowering in someone’s backyard. What’s my excuse? If I’m busted now, it’s the end of my job next week, the end of pulling myself out of this confounding mess I’m in.

Book Blast/ Siding With Plato

About the Book:
Brooke Aarons can’t get to college fast enough. Leaving behind her small town life, she intends to transform herself into a brilliant psychologist with no distractions along the way. But when she finds herself on a double date with the school’s star football player – and worse, enjoying it – Brooke has to wonder if she’s the one who needs her head examined. James Cartwright’s easy life, endless bucks, and long line of willing girls should make him a non-starter for Brooke, but as she learns, the psychology behind a bad crush is a whole lot messier of a subject. Maybe Plato was right. Maybe love is a serious mental disease. If so, Brooke doesn’t have long to find a cure before James’ attention proves to be a terminal condition.
