Gone But Never Forgotten

Today marks the 7th year anniversary to a tragic accident that took the lives of seven talent young men and a teacher. These young men and teacher were from my old high school, Bathurst High School (BHS). There was one survivor in this accident, Bradd and I think we should also take a moment and think of him on this day.
I remember this day just like it was yesterday, waking up to hear the tragic news that Javier, Justin, Daniel, Nikki, Nicholas, Nathan, Codey and Beth all had died in a car accident on their way home from a basketball game in Moncton. The most shocking was that they were literally just moments away from the Bathurst exit.
To this day my heart literally just breaks for these families and my home town. They may be gone but they will never be forgotten.

Guest Post/ Broken Trust by Thomas Maurin

brokentrustBroken Trust Post:  Strong Women in a Man’s World

Bonnie and Mike Hartley

(Pen name: Thomas Maurin)

From the beginning we imagined that Broken Trust would be a movie.  One of our goals for the thriller and the movie was to create a female protagonist in her 50s who would work successfully “in a man’s world.”  We envisioned Julianne Moore playing Fitz.

Fitz is that woman for many reasons.  First, she has always excelled at math and did her doctorate at Wharton in forensic accounting.  She does high level financial analysis to support the SEC’s investigation into fraud, market manipulation and other illegal activities.  While she is not the only woman to work in that area, her fifteen-year track record at the SEC speaks to her strength, commitment and ability to analyze complex financial situations.  She is in her 50s and is in some ways just coming into her own power.

As we see in Broken Trust, she consistently takes the lead with Charles and Jamie, both of whom are strong, successful men used to being in charge.  While they both want to protect their friend, they respect Fitz’s willingness to take risks and to put herself in the line of fire, as she does in Cayman when she goes to Kenmore’s office to get the final piece of data about when Hans, Valentina and Ramón are meeting with the attorney.  She confronts Hans repeatedly at increasing risk to herself, highlighting her ability to act on her strong convictions.

Fitz is not a super hero.  She is a flawed individual whose emotional scars interfere at times with her usual rational decision-making.  When her personal and professional lives converge, both internal and external conflicts explode. We see that especially in her relationship with her father and with Charles.  She finally recognizes that the mistakes she made regarding Chloe were based on false assumptions.  That recognition is a major turning point in Broken Trust.  Once she knows that Charles didn’t want the annulment, she finally confronts herself and her father, and takes responsibility for her decision to hide her pregnancy from everyone except her brother.  It is her willingness to own her mistakes come what may that finally unlocks the personal power she has repressed for decades.

This is a story about three smart, successful people who were once fast friends in college and have now been thrust together again in an unlikely, multi-layered investigation with far-reaching international implications and billions of dollars at stake. One is a forensic accountant for the SEC, one beta tests hardware and software for the US Department of Defense and the UK Ministry of Defense, and the third is a wildly successful entrepreneur, software developer and venture capitalist in Silicon Valley.

They get caught up in the hunt for a corrupt Swiss banker intent on finally unloading the last of the gold stolen by his father in World War II; a violent, narcissist leader of a Mexican drug cartel making his move to take over as the head of all cartels in Central America; and the daughter of a murdered Bulgarian arms dealer making the deal that will give her mother financial stability and get them both out of the increasingly unstable arms business.

The plot unfolds as financial crimes committed by insiders put common criminal activities to shame in a world where technology has increasingly insinuated itself into our lives to good and bad effects.

Challenge/ 31 Days of Better Blogging for 2015 (Day 1)

31DaysofBetterBlogging

Your Task Today:

Your task for today is to comment. How much do you normally comment? Do you comment on 1 or 2 blogs? Well your task today is to multiply that number. So, if you normally comment on one blog, try to comment on 10. If you comment on ten already, double it and comment on twenty.

I know that commenting is the key to success in networking for your blog and I admit that is something I struggle with. You do to right?

I admit that I always tend to comment on the same blogs daily/weekly and I very rarely venture outside that circle of bloggers unless someone new has stopped to comment on my blog then I always tend to head over and check out there blog and comment.

Although I have to admit lately I haven’t been commenting on anyone’s blog just because real life things have happened recently and I am hoping that will change this year.

I need to come up with a way that I can follow these blogs so that I make it a habit to comment more and I have yet to find that with wordpress. If anyone knows of something that I can add to follow that would be great. I love how blogger had that friends widget. Please leave it in the comment section so that I can see it.

One of my goals for 2015 is that I really need to get into networking and expanding my blog. I have been doing this for 6 years and my numbers have pretty much stayed the same. I know that is good and that people are reading but I want to expand and get my name/blog out there.

If you are looking for some tips on how to help you comment you should read  ParaJunkee.com blog post today she offers some great tips.

So today my task is to comment on 10 blogs and I am happy to report that I have done that exactly 🙂

Have a Happy New Year everyone. See you tomorrow

First Book of The Year 2015

firstbookof2015Its hard to believe that this is New Year’s Eve…Seriously where did 2014 go? This year literally flew by and honestly I have to say that I am so happy this year is almost over because it feels like its been one thing after another this year and I am hoping and putting it out there that 2015 will be a totally rocking and amazing year for myself and my readers.

Sadly 2014 ends in a tragedy for my family because on Monday my father in law passed away after a brief illness peacefully in his sleep so this week we are making arrangements.

So needless to say I haven’t really been able to put much thought into what I want my first read of 2015 to be. I think I am going to pick up:

The_Maze_Runner_cover

This has been a book I have been wanting to read since it came out a few years ago and I bought it when it came out so I think after seeing the movie this month that its high time to read the book, right?

What will you be reading? How do you decide what you will read?

I should also mention that the totally amazing Sheila from Book Journey is hosting this fun event. I am excited to find out what Sheila and the other bloggers are reading this year.

If you are interested in taking part please CLICK ON THIS TEXT and it will take you to her blog post so you can find out more about this fun event. Will you be taking part?

Its time to reveal the book I will be curling up on the couch with later tonight.
