BOOK SYNOPSIS

Mrs Brandon, the former Marianne Dashwood, is now a widow, and not yet twenty-five.

Her former admirer Willoughby is as unhappily married as ever, and the thought that she is free to marry again drives him to distraction. He has continued in his dissolute lifestyle, which Marianne abhors, while his wife Sophia’s life has been poisoned by jealousy of Marianne.

Marianne urges him that the only possibility of happiness for Willoughby and his wife is for him to give up his empty pursuit of pleasure – but now the Colonel is gone, Marianne finds that she can no longer push aside thoughts of Willoughby easily herself; she must find some way of occupying her own empty hours.

Willoughby retains his rascally charm, which an older and wiser Marianne is determined to resist; Elinor and Edward are as astute as ever, while Sir John and Lady Middleton are as foolish. Mrs. Jennings remains determined to marry off all her associates as before, while Sophia Willoughby is even more sour as the wife of the man she wanted, and Willoughby’s friends are suitably cynical rakes.

This sequel to Jane Austen’s ‘Sense and Sensibility’ strives to emulate some of the light ironic touch of the inimitable style of Jane Austen; it is both funny and sad, and is told as dark comedy.

EXCERPT

‘The union of the Willoughby’s only resembled that of the Brandon’s in being childless. Unlike the latter couple, they had no common interests to compensate, unless an unfortunate tendency to over indulge in wine and other stimulants could count as a mutual source of diversion.

It is true that they did share in common a manner of relating to each other that involved raised voices behind slammed doors, angry silences and periods of cold civility; but this shared inclination brought them no closer together.

It could be further urged on their behalf , that in this conduct, they provided society with the diversion of much talk, and their staff with constant entertainment; – for Willoughby’s confidential valet knew all about his improper pursuits, while his wife’s lady’s maid could recount how Mrs Willoughby had cursed him for a fortune hunting libertine in full hearing of the servants, and of how savagely he had kicked shut her sitting room door before retorting that, ‘Devil take it, in his whole worthless life, he had only cared for Mrs Brandon, and he’d be damned if he pretended anything else to please a scolding…’ But the reader does not wish to hear any more of this.

Seemingly their staff lacked any discretion, and soon enough, the content of the Willoughby’s exchanges leaked out into polite society, which showed still less decorum in repeating them assiduously. Many a man had dined out for a month on his knowledge of episodes that ought to have been cloaked in decent silence, and Miss Steele was one of many maiden ladies agog for the latest outrage.’

Meme/ Top Ten Tuesday

toptentuesday.jpg

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created over at The Broke and the Bookish. This feature was created because they are particularly fond of lists over at The Broke and the Bookish. They love to share their lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!
Each week they will post a new Top Ten list  that one of their bloggers at The Broke and the Bookish will answer. Everyone is welcome to join. All that they ask is that you link back to The Broke and the Bookish on your own Top Ten Tuesday post AND add your name to the Linky widget so that everyone can check out other bloggers lists! If you don’t have a blog, just post your answers as a comment on their post. Have fun with it! It’s a fun way to get to know your fellow bloggers.
This week’s prompt is:
10 Wishes I’d Ask The Book Genie To Grant Me (a new book from a certain author,  a reading superpower, a library that is your absolutely #librarygoals, a character to come to life, to met a certain author etc. etc.) YOU DREAM IT AND THE BOOKISH GENIE CAN DO IT.
I love today’s Top Ten Tuesday prompt, don’t you? Who doesn’t like to dream? I mean if you are going to dream, dream big or go home I say…
Dear Book Genie, please find enclosed my Top Ten wishes that are in no particular order.
  1. I would love to have the ability to read like my favorite character from Criminal Minds, Spencer Reid. Can you image how many books you could? That would be a great way to clear your TBR pile.
  2. Since I would like to speed read, I would need a way to get my reviews done just as quickly so I would love to be able to think about the review as I am reading and some how have it connected to the computer so that it could write my review for me.
  3. I would love to have a library like Belle from Beauty and the Beast.
  4. I would love to have all expense paid trips to all the book conventions in the world. I have only ever been to BEA in NYC but how fun would it be to go to ALA, RT Booklovers Convention, etc

As a huge Harry Connick Jr fan I was beyond thrilled to get the chance to review his newest cd. Honestly Harry Connick Jr can do no wrong in my eyes. I love listening to his music.

I was reading a little bit of information on this cd and I was surprised to find out that Harry Connick Jr had stepped outside of his musical comfort zone when putting this cd together. He teamed up with two external producers and has come up with something amazing in my opinion.

There are songs on the cd that are Harry Connick Jr but then you have others that you sit there and go wow is that really Harry?

I love how he has mixed this cd up you got some songs that make you want to get up and dance and other songs that are perfect for blasting in the car and bobbing your head back and forth. This is definitely a CD that I am going to be putting in the car.

I can actually say that this entire cd is my absolute favorite that I have reviewed recently. I can listen to this all day every day in my opinion and I will be purchasing this week when it comes out .

If your a Harry Connick Jr fan then you will love this cd no doubt about it and I think if you have someone who is looking for something new in music then I recommend this.

The Book Blogger TMI Tag

book-blogger-tmi-tag

I spotted this on Emma’s blog The Terror of Knowing and it sounded like alot of fun so I thought I would do this tag. If you happen to do it please leave me a comment so I can go and check out your answers.

How old are you?
I am in my 40’s and thats all I am saying about it 🙂

What book are you reading?
I am currently reading Smoke by Catherine MacKenzie.

What are you wearing?
I am currently wearing a tshirt with capri joggers because I spent the day cleaning.

OTP? (One True Pairing)
This is a hard one for me. If I can think of something I will come back.

Blogger or WordPress?
I have to say WordPress after being on it for over a year. If you would have asked me in the beginning I would have said Blogger but I really love this format now.

Going outside being active or staying in and reading a book?
I would love to stay in and read a book but at some point you do need to get out and be a little active especially when you live in Canada where we really don’t have seasons because the weather can change at the drop of a hat.

What is the last book you read?
The last book I read was Until We Meet Again by Rene Collins. I loved the book.

What is the book you’re going to read next?
I have so many books that I want to read next but I am hoping to get to at least a few of the following since I borrowed them from the library: An ember in the ashes, The Sin Eaters Daughter, The Cage, Vicious, A Darker Shade of Magic, or A Court of thorns and roses.

Ebooks – yes or no?
If you asked me this a few years ago I would say no but now I am a yes..

Where do you prefer to read?
My two favorite spots are in bed or on the sofa curled up with a blanket. Those are by far my two favorite spots to sit and read.

Who is the last person you tweeted?
My friend and cohost Michael. We were trying to figure out if we were doing our show this week.

Whose blog did you look at last?
It would be Emma’s blog https://theterrorofknowing.wordpress.com because  I am getting the questions for this tag there.

Who is your favorite blogger?
There is too many to list but you all know who you are 🙂

Who is your favorite book-tuber?
This is probably bad of me but I don’t tend to watch alot of book-tubers. Who should I be watching?

If someone tells me that reading is boring I tell them you just haven’t found that right book yet and once you do it will change your world. It takes finding that one right book to hook you.

Who is the last author you spoke to?
No one 🙁

Who is the last person you texted?
It was my son he was texting me to let me know he was leaving school.

I have five bookcases.

If you had the choice to meet all of your favorite book bloggers or all of your favorite authors, which would you pick? You can only pick one.
I think I would have to pick book bloggers only because I am able to attend book events so I get the chance to meet authors but not always my favorite bloggers.

Insta-love: yes or no?
I am on the fence with this and I am a yes and a no person.

Favorite author?
I would have to say Terry Spear but I have a long list of author that I love reading.

What is the number-one book on your wishlist?
Isn’t every book on a wishlist the number one book? But if I had to chose I would pick the new Sophie Kinsella book coming out very soon.

Do you prefer books with female or male protagonists?
It doesn’t make a difference to me.

Which is your favourite book-to-film adaption?
The Princess Bride is one of my favorite.

What is the last song you listened to?
It would have to be Sam Hunt’s Take Your Time

Which do you enjoy reading more – negative reviews or positive reviews?
I really prefer to read positive reviews but in all honesty if a review is both negative and positive I will read those first. I think there is alway something negative in a book but you can make it positive.

  • Date: October 30th, 2015
  • Label: Verve Records and Walt Disney Records

This morning I have another CD review for you and today its the We Love Disney compilation. I grew up on Disney movies and to this day I still love watching Disney movies. Who doesn’t?

Verve Records and Disney Records got David Foster to produce this compilation. We Love Disney features of some of today’s hottest artist such as Gwen Stefani, Ariana Grande, Jessie J, Jason Derulo and quite a few others.

What I loved about this cd was that each artist brought their own unique feel to the song.

I loved listening to this cd and its been played several times since I have gotten it to review. This will definitely appear under our Christmas tree this year because we are all huge Disney fans.  We always love the movies and the music that goes with each one.

Listening to this was like a stroll down memory lane for me with a few of the songs. Do you have a favorite?

I loved every song on this compilation and still to this day every time I hear Rainbow Connection I still get a tear in my eye. I don’t know why but its by far my favorite song. Gwen Stefani did an amazing job with the song.

I think each song was suited for the artist that sang it and I loved how they made each song their own. I have to admit there was a few artist that I didn’t know so I had to youtube them.

I think this cd will be the perfect stocking stuffer for Disney movie fans.
