For fans of The Pretties, Twilight, and The Mortal Instruments. If you love exciting romances, nail-biting action, urban fantasy, fated mates, young adult dark romance, and some devilish bad boys, then the world of THE GIRL ON FIRE SERIES awaits you!

I quickly have to thank Xpresso Book Tours for allowing me to be a part of the book tour for this today and for sending me a copy of the book to read for my review today.

Since this is book 2 in the Girl on Fire series I am going to try and avoid any spoilers for you.

The Infinity Gene picks up a few days from where The Butterfly Code left off. Which I am happy that I had this to follow up with because I think if I had to wait any longer the suspense would have killed me.

The book begins with Aeris receiving a interview letter asking her to attend an interview for a company that writes music for movies and tv. This is a great opportunity for her but little does she know she is almost walking into a trap until its too late.

We also realize why Aeris’s blood is in high demand and why they will stop at nothing to get it. Its a matter of life and death for a little girl named Nessa. What will Aeris do now that a child is involved?

From the previous book we know that Aeris is genetically modified human and is struggling with some side effects of receiving Hunter’s blood. She soon realizes that things aren’t going like she thought they would and feels like she is becoming more like Hunter.

Speaking of Hunter he is in a lot of trouble for what he has done in making super humans. This could cost him more then he expected so Aeris decides she needs to protect him and lets him think she is more human then ever and decides she needs to stay away from him to protect him. But can she distance herself from him to protect him?

As the book progresses you learn more about the characters and the past. I know as I was reading both books I had a lot of questions and it was nice to see it unfold in the book and things started to make sense.

Without going much further in my review if you had read the first book and enjoyed it then I highly recommend you continue with the series. I really enjoyed it and look forward to what is coming.

This was a fairly quick read and it was hard to put down at times. I am curious to see where this will go and how it will end in the next book which I am buying today so that I can finish this series up.

My name is Aeris Thorne. I am a genetically modified human.

PAINFUL SECRETS. STARTLING TRUTHS.UNDENIABLE LOVE.
All it took was a chance meeting--one tingling glance across a darkened street to change my life.

I'd been searching for my two best friends in the crowded Zenith Club, which was a really bad idea because I'm totally claustrophobic .
I burst outside, and that's when I came face-to-face with the incredibly gorgeous Hunter Cayman. Dark-haired, tall, and leaning against an insane sports car, my pulse went haywire. Maybe things weren't so bad after all. The young doctor had his long muscular arms crossed over his leather jacket clad chest, and all his six-foot something would make any girl's knees turn weak. But then, if what Ella said was true, Hunter was the kind of guy who left behind a trail of broken hearts. And heartache was the last thing I needed right now.

Yet there's something strange, something almost superhuman about Hunter. It's more than that infuriatingly knowing grin. I'm trying to stop thinking about him, and I get the feeling he's avoiding me, too. Yet Deep Cove is a tiny town and every time we run into each other the tension literally crackles, sparking around us. It just figures that when suddenly I'm in danger, he's there to save me.

In truth, I should be dead. By all the logic in this world, I should be shattered to pieces. How fast was I going on that ATV when I smashed into those iron gates? Ninety? A hundred? And the men who were chasing me, where did they go?

Somehow I'm whole.

Maybe better than whole.

There's no one I can talk to, not even my best friend, Gage. Gage hates Hunter. He wants Hunter's laboratory to be shut down. He thinks Hunter's a monster. And yet, if that's true, if Hunter's a monster...than what am I? I'm not sure what terrifies me more, the metamorphosis taking place inside me, or the intensely powerful connection with a guy whose heart and soul has become linked with mine.

Get lost in THE BUTTERFLY CODE, the captivating first book in this YA sci-fi romance series.

"Warning!!! Seriously this book will take over your life once you start reading so plan ahead if possible, it is that engrossing."-Tonyalove, Amazon Reviewer ★★★★★

"Easily one of my favorite reads this year! I was completely and utterly consumed!"-Stacy, Amazon Reviewer ★★★★★
"I'll definitely be looking for more books by this author!"-MD, Amazon Reviewer ★★★★★

I always feel like I am a broken record when I say that one of the best things about being a book blogger and reviewing books is getting the chance to discover new authors that you have never heard about before and reading books outside your normal genres.

I recently got a email from Xpresso Book Tours looking for bloggers to take part in The Infinity Gene by Sue Wyshynski which is the second book in the series and after reading the description I instantly signed up because it sounded like it would be a interesting read and because she is a Canadian author even though she is living in the US.

If you are interested in read this first book Amazon currently has it free to download on your kindle. My Canadian readers can click on THIS and my American reader can click on This.

The Butterfly Code has a whole mix of genre’s in this ranging from Sci-fi, romance, fantasy, and mystery. Which I think makes a great read if you like these genres. Sometimes this kind of thing can’t work and sometimes it does work and this time it worked perfectly. Plus if you are a regular reader of my blog you know that I don’t tend to read fantasy/Sci-Fi but I think I am being converted.

When I started this book and this trilogy I was instantly hooked and I had a hard time to put the kindle down. After reading this I was happy that I had the second one waiting to go, I only wish I had the third book, The Modified Girl on hand to read right after but I know that I will be buying it during the black friday sale. I am curious to see where this will go.

Our main character is Aeris (who has come home from NYC to spend a little time with her father before she has to go back to start her job in NYC with the Philharmonic) and the book begins with her looking for her two best friends at a club being claustrophobic she decides to wait outside because she knows hey will eventually go looking for her. While she is standing in front of the club she notices Dr, Hunter Cayman parked outside and standing in front of his car. She has been warned by her father to stay away from him. But there is something about him that she is drawn to and I think vise versa for him as well.

What can I saw about Hunter? I was intrigued by him and wanted to know more about him. He is dark and mysterious and there is something about him that you want to know more. I was even lured in by him.

There is so much mystery and secrets around Hunter and his lab that I think the curiosity got to Aeris and she knew there was more to it then she knew and she was determined to find out its deep dark secrets but getting to close could be a problem. What will she do when she uncovers why everyone has told her to stay away?

As I am sitting her writing this review there is so much I want to say but afraid if I say anything more that it will give the book away and I don’t want to do that because I want you to go and read it and see for yourself. So what are you waiting for go and pick it up…

The cover! Can we just talk about the cover? I really like it and I think if this was facing me on a bookstore shelf I would definitely pick it up to see what the book is about and I would probably buy it. Would you buy it based on the cover?

Review/ Midnight at the Electric

Review/ Midnight at the ElectricMidnight at the Electric by Jodi Lynn Anderson
Format: Hardcover

Goodreads

Divided by time. Ignited by a spark.
Kansas, 2065.
Adri has secured a slot as a Colonist—one of the lucky few handpicked to live on Mars. But weeks before launch, she discovers the journal of a girl who lived in her house over a hundred years ago, and is immediately drawn into the mystery surrounding her fate. While Adri knows she must focus on the mission ahead, she becomes captivated by a life that’s been lost in time…and how it might be inextricably tied to her own.
Oklahoma, 1934. Amidst the fear and uncertainty of the Dust Bowl, Catherine fantasizes about her family’s farmhand, and longs for the immortality promised by a professor at a traveling show called the Electric. But as her family’s situation becomes more dire—and the suffocating dust threatens her sister’s life—Catherine must find the courage to sacrifice everything she loves in order to save the one person she loves most.
England, 1919. In the recovery following the First World War, Lenore struggles with her grief for her brother, a fallen British soldier, and plans to sail to America in pursuit of a childhood friend. But even if she makes it that far, will her friend be the person she remembers, and the one who can bring her back to herself?
While their stories spans thousands of miles and multiple generations, Lenore, Catherine, and Adri’s fates are entwined.

This was a book I picked up to read on summer vacation and I actually did read it on vacation. As I was reading this I realized that I have never read anything by Jodi Lynn Anderson before this and I don’t know why considering I have a few of her books sitting on my bookshelf. This will be another author that I will have to make sure I read in 2018.

Midnight at the Electric is told in three perspectives ( Adri, Catherine and Lenore) and three different time periods (Kansas 2065, Oklahoma 1934 and England 1919).

As I was reading this I was always wondering how each of the girls would play a part in the book and how it would all join together at the end and I was happy to see Jodi Lynn managed to connect them all together.

The book begins in the year 2065, and one of our main characters, Adri has been selected to be one of the colonists living on Mars. How neat would that be? Adri is sent to go live with a distant cousin in Kansas that she had no idea she had, while she completes her final training. Its there that  Adri discovers the journal of Catherine, a girl living during the Dust Bowl in Oklahoma, and letters from Lenore, an English girl coming to terms with the loss of her brother in World War I,  hidden away in her closet and curiosity gets the better of her and she starts reading the letters and journal.

With Catherine we discover that she is a young girl growing up in Kansas during the great Dust Bowl, which is something that actually happened and was also known as the Dirty 30s. Something that I never knew actually happened and I have to say that I found Catherine’s chapters interesting and horrifying. She is finding first love who just happens to be someone who is helping taking care of the family land and  she is also watching her farm be buried in dirt and her sister’s cough not going away. How scary would that have been in that time?

It is through Catherine’s story, that we learn about her mom and how she left England during the war and how  her best friend, Lenore stayed behind. Even though the friends were separated they never lost touch and wrote letters to each other.  With Lenore we learn what the war was like and how she struggled with the losses her town had suffered and her need to want to flee England and go to America so that she could be with her friend.

Having not read anything before I wasn’t sure what to expect but I am happy to say that I really enjoyed the book and the roller coaster of emotions that I would feel. Seeing as I was reading this on vacation I didn’t get to read it in one sitting but over a few nights. I would definitely continue to read Jodi Lynn’s previous and future books.

Excerpt Something Just Like This by Tracy Krimmer

“Don’t be a Grinch!”
“Huh?” I lift my gaze and my best friend and co-worker Carly stands in the doorway, the smile so bright on her face it almost blinds me. “What do you mean don’t be a Grinch?”
“Oh, you know,” she says as she makes her way into the room, planting herself in my chair. “Like you are every holiday season.”
“I’m not a Grinch.” Maybe I am. I try my best not to show it. It’s possible I don’t have a convincing poker face. Poker was never my game, anyway.
“You most certainly are. Every Christmas party you sulk at the table drinking gin and tonic and refuse to join in on anything. This year, you are in. You’ll be the life of the party.”
“Over my dead body.”
“Shit, Jules, your stiff body would be a better time than you are alive at these functions.”
She’s right, and I know it. Why is she always right? I want to take offense but it’s no secret I’m not Christmas’s biggest fan. I may be the only elf working at the mall that despises it. The elf job isn’t for me, though. I do it for others. That’s festive, isn’t it? Isn’t Christmas about giving? I do plenty of that.
“Leave me alone. And why are you so bubbly? Did you drink a bottle of bubble bath or something?” I grab the container of pens, staples, and paperclips out of the box and place them on the desk. This is much easier to deal with than the picture of my family with our fake smiles.
“Oh, I don’t know.”
She dots her face with her fingertips, moving them around from one side to the other. Why is she acting so weird? “Wait.” I stop when I see it. “Are you wearing an engagement ring?”
She squeals and pops out of the chair, rushing over to show me. Her hand misses smacking me in the face as she shows off her princess cut ring, sparkles and all. “Pretty.”
“Pretty? Are you kidding me right now, Jules? This ring is gorgeous and fit for the fairest princess in the land.”
“Which is you, I assume.”
“What crawled into your pants this morning? Or should I ask who didn’t? Another bad date, huh?”
I shrug, not in the mood to discuss my date with Romeo. No joke. My cousin Dana claimed she found the perfect guy for me, and I said yes to a blind date. His name was Romy, like Mira Sorvino in that movie Romy & Michele’s High School Reunion. I’d only ever heard the name Romy from that movie. It turned out he used Romy as a nickname for Romeo. Yeah. Dana set me up with a Romeo because of course we’d be Romeo and Juliette. Barf. I don’t even spell my name like the Shakespearean character, and the last thing I would ever do is poison myself over a man. Dana had her fun. I did not. She’s never setting me up again.
“Let’s say I got home very early, watched an entire movie, and was asleep by ten.”
“Ouch. That is a bad date.”
