Charming

Charming by Krystal Wade Published by: Curiosity Quills Press Publication date: October 6th 2014 Genres: Thriller, Young Adult Synopsis: They say what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, and that’s great . . . as long as you don’t die. Sixteen-year-old Haley Tremaine had it all: top-notch school, fantastic family, and a bright future, but all of that changed when an accident tore her family apart. Now, an alcoholic father, a bitter younger sister, and a cold headstone bearing her mother’s name are all she has left. Chris Charming has it all: a powerful CEO for a father, a prestigious school, and a fortune at his fingertips, but none of that matters when he lands a reputation as a troublemaker. Struggling to follow in his father’s footsteps, he reaches out to the one person he believes truly sees him, the one person he wants: Haley. Little do they know someone’s determined to bring the two together, even if it means murder. Goodreads-button.pngamazon_buy_button_2BarnesNoble_button_thumbdivider4.png I quickly want to thank Xpresso Book Tours for allowing me to be a part of this book tour. I really enjoyed reading this and it was so much fun to dip into something different. I have to admit at first I thought that I might have bitten off more then I could chew just because this genre scares the bejeezes out of me. I am a big wimp with an over active imagination but I have to say that this book sucked in my right from the beginning and trust me that is a good thing.

This is a Cinderella retelling and I have to say I haven’t read alot of these retelling stories but I think I might have to check some more out after this.

I am a firm believer of what doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger and I really think this motto suits Haley. Haley has a terrible life and my heart breaks for any child or young adult that goes through this. Her father is an alcoholic who abuses his daughters and I have to say that this always turns my stomach. I really wanted to reach into the book and kill the father. How can a parent do that to his own child?

Haley is alone in this world even though she has a few friends. Her sister hates her (and she makes it now to Haley) and her mother is dead. You could almost see that she thought that was her life and that she had no chance in hell to got out of this situation. This is where I wanted to tell Haley that it will only get better.

Enter Chris who is sort of like Haley. He is your typical guy who has it all but when a bad rumor begins to circulate about him that isn’t true he begins to rethink everything he has ever known. I loved how it wasn’t thrown at you all at once but that it built. It was a nice pace like a roller coaster going up the hill and then bam everything happened at once and it was really good. It gave you time to get to know Haley.

I was hooked from the very beginning and literally had a hard time putting it down. There is so much I can say about this book but I won’t just that you need to get this book to read and then you will see what I am talking about.

Krystal Wade is happily married to the love of her life (don’t gag) and raising
three beautiful children in the gorgeous state of Virginia. They live just outside
Washington, D.C., and every day she wakes up to find herself stuck in traffic trying
to get there.
The horrid commute gives Krystal plenty of time to zone out and think about her
characters in full, brilliant details (she’s a safe driver; don’t worry). Stories
give her a way to forget about the sometimes smelly strangers sitting next to her on
the fifty mile trek into town (she picks up hitchhikers every day. True story. Check
out www.slug-lines.com if you don’t believe us).

Krystal has been a part of organized hitchhiking for nearly fifteen years, but
that’s just one small aspect of her oh-so-large life. When she’s not working,
commuting, or chasing after her three children (four if you count the man), you can
usually find Krystal outside talking to her chickens like they’re the cutest things
in the world (they are), or training her amazing dogs how to herd said chickens
(which they love), or curled up on the sofa with a good book (why can’t that be 100%
of the time?).

Lucy Trabbicio’s a down-on-her-luck, young, American, former biker-bar cocktail
waitress desperate to find a job. Lady Elizabeth Billingsley hires Lucy to travel to
Fredonia, the tiny jewel of a country in the Alps, for ten days ‘tops’ to
impersonate her.

Say what? How the heck is that going to happen?

In the mother of all makeovers, Elizabeth’s people teach Lucy how to dress, walk,
talk, eat, be coiffed and even get naked like a European Lady.

The goal?

To keep Crown Prince Cristoph Timmel interested in Elizabeth until she finishes her
unexpected, pressing personal business in the States.

But fate intervenes… Lucy meets and is wildly attracted to sexy, bad-boy Nick on the
oh-so-long flights to Fredonia. Unfortunately for Lucy—Nick and Elizabeth have a hot
sexual history, which Nick wants to immediately resume.

Prince Cristoph proposes marriage. What’s an imposter girl to do? Elizabeth insists
that she’ll make it back home in time for the wedding. Lucy accepts Cristoph’s
proposal and is on the fast track to becoming a Princess but continues to fall for
the wrong Prince of Fredonia—Nick. When another tiny glitch arises—someone’s trying
to kill her.

The only folks helping Lucy are her wild, party hard, take-no-prisoners
Ladies-in-Waiting.

When the real Lady Elizabeth decides she’s not marrying Cristoph and never returning
to Fredonia, Lucy’s faced with an uncomfortable decision—continue her deception,
marry the prince she’s not in love with and live a dream life albeit without Nick,
her dream guy? Or tell the truth and return to poverty and oblivion?

A modern day sexy fairy tale with romance, twists and turns, LOL moments, a few
tears and an empowering ending.

Lately it seems like I have been craving different things in regards to reading and stepping away from what I normally read.  As a book blogger this is a good thing, right?

When I first read the synopsis of the book I knew I wanted to read it because it sounded really good and I have to say that I was really impressed because I normally don’t read fantasy. I have tried don’t get me wrong but I just could never get into it and even with the encouraging efforts of a really cute guy I use to like back in the day. Although now  I am thinking that this might be the book that peaks my interest into fantasy.

I have to say right away that I just love the cover of the book. Don’t you?

Shadow Fire is the first book in the series and the next book is called Stolen Moon (with another pretty cover). Which sounds really good too and according to reviews of the books these can be read as stand alones.

Every five years girls between the ages of 14 and 18 are chosen to set out an a very impossible mission to recover the golden statue and no one has been successful or returned alive until perhaps now. Ashlyn has been selected to take part. Her partner in all of this is Zane ans Shadow and you can tell almost instantly there there is something between Ashlyn and Zane. Now will this get in the way of the mission or not?

Ashlyn was just the perfect kind of character that I like because she is just like any other girl but she isn’t afraid to get down and dirty so to speak. She was a great kick ass character and wasn’t afraid even though Zane was there to protect her.

I loved how Kimber gave us a little info about this missing golden statue and that it was addressed. I felt it made the story that much more interesting in my eyes. I mean had she not I would have been wondering why was it so important to get it back and why did no one return back alive.

This mission was not easy by any means and Ashlyn, Zane and Shadow had to encounter alot of creatures/monsters etc and many twists and turns and I liked that about the book. This is what makes a page turner and I honestly have to say it makes for a fun read because you don’t quite know what is going to happen next.

I loved Zane from the first moment of meeting him and if I had to pick a book boyfriend I would have to say it would be him. There is just something about him that I really liked. Yes he is extremely cute but he comes off like he knows he is cute and all that but isn’t like that, if that makes any sense.

I am curious to see where this story line will end up and will it continue into the next book?
