Bout of Books Read-a-Thon Wrap Up Post

Bout of Books Read-a-Thon
Its hard to believe that the Bout of Books Read-a-Thon is over.

I really loved the idea of this being a week long event instead of a 24 or a 48 hour event. With that being said I feel as though I didn’t get alot done or as much as I wanted.

I went into this read-a-thon with a set list of books (6-7) that I wanted to read and I think I might have set my goal a little to high and I think this is why I feel a little bummed.

I managed to read three books:
~The Land of Stories by Chris Colfer (I actually ended up finishing this one up so would that count?)

~Hell on Wheels by Julie Ann Walker
~Beautiful Disaster by Jaime McGuire (which wasn’t on my list but wanted to read it)

I didn’t get to comment on as many blogs as I would have liked but I did discover a ton of great blogs and added a bunch to my blog roll that I am looking forward to checking out in the next little while.

I am looking forward to taking part in the next read a thon. How did you do?

My favorite newest item to add to my make up bag

Recently I was in my local pharmacy picking up a few things I needed when I stumbled upon this and automatically saw refillable spray and thought hey this would be perfect for all the little perfume samples I have been getting that come with a cap instead of a spray.

I hate when they send perfume samples and they are with the cap, you know the kind where you open it and half the bottle spills out and your hands smell like perfume after wards.

When I proceed to the cash the lady in cosmetics asked me what kind of perfume I would like  and I had the confused look and she proceeded to tell me that I could fill up this little bottle (which holds 5ml of perfume) with any kind of perfume they had. Wow that was a nice bonus. (This is where I really need to pay attention to what I pick up and read the packaging since I can’t add my own perfume to it LOL)

She said this is basically what they call sampling. I paid $12.99 Canadian for this and whenever my bottle is empty I can go back and fill it up again with whatever I want at no cost. So I am looking forward to being able to use this and perhaps trying some higher end perfume that I might not normally have access to.

So once I decided on what I wanted (sadly I’m not sure what the name was because I told her what I liked and she sprayed it onto a strip and I liked it.) It was really quick to fill up. I love the container its in and being able to see how much perfume is left in the container is a bonus. The one pictured above is the one I have and its in a steel container. They say the average amount of sprays is 50 full sprays.

I am almost tempted to go and buy another one.  I think this would make a perfect gift for the female in your life (wife/girlfriend/friends/nieces/sisters/aunts etc) who love trying perfume and perhaps don’t want to commitment to a full size right away and love trying samples.

Here is the website http://us.travalo.com/ if you would like to check them out.

** Please note that I was in no way compensated for this review. I purchased this product with my own money.**

The Proud Owner of……

Apart from wanting to go to NYC (again in May 2013) there usually isn’t to much that I want because I am pretty content with what I have, but there has been one thing that has been right up there with wanting to go to NYC and its been to get a VERA BRADLEY purse.

I have been wanting one for roughly over two years now. Although I am sure I could have had one sooner had I really checked out the locations of a Vera Bradley store before hand, it was only after I went searching while I was in Lake George for a retail store (close to there) did I spot three where my sister in law lives.

Sadly the closest retail store for me here in Canada is Toronto, which surprises me since Montreal tends to get alot of those little boutiques. Toronto isn’t very close to me and we just never had a reason to go to Toronto.

Thankfully there was a retail store in Queensbury that was selling them so before I left Lake George, I was able to get one. Sadly there wasn’t much of a selection of bags on hand since it was just a small store and the one I had wanted wasn’t available but was told I could order online.

When asked why I had wanted it, I mentioned that it was on sale on the site and then he showed me the above bag. Its being discontinued so the price was cheaper so I took some time looking at the bag and the more I looked at it the more I was liking it. Its a perfect summer bag.

The purse is actually called On The Go in Rosy Posies .

A versatile twist on the “everyday bag,” this timeless hobo style is accessorized with trim in front and a tortoise buckle on the adjustable strap. Side slip pockets (with decorative flap accents) and a large zippered one in back. Three more slip pockets, plus a sturdy removable base.

When I got home I started to have a little buyers remorse but once I started to use the purse I grew to really like it. I love that its not to big and bulky and it holds quite a bit of stuff without it feeling heavy and weighed down.

I did check and it could fit me as a cross the body bag but it just doesn’t feel that comfy. The strap is adjustable to give you varies purse styles. I have mine right now with the shortest straps. I love the tortoise buckle on the strap because it blends in very well with the purse.

The two side pockets are small but its the perfect place to carry hand sanitizer and if you are shopping to shove your car keys in. Which I have done several times.

Another selling point is inside the bag, there is three pockets on one side of the purse to hold a cell phone, gum and other things you might need and don’t want to dig for.

I love the zippered pocket in the back of the purse because its a great place to hold some cash or change.

I have to admit that I tend to carry alot of things in my purses and it was nice to see that I could carry my phone, keys, camera, a small make up bag and it not be weighed down.

The best thing about the Vera Bradley bags are they are all machine washable. How neat is that?

I just wish I would have gotten in sooner because fall is coming and it makes me want to get another one but in a darker fall/winter shade.

Perhaps Santa will bring one for me.

(Review) Fallenmore

Title: Fallenmore (The second book in the Feathermore Trilogy)
Author: Lucy Swing
Publisher: Self Pub
Pub Date: July 2012

Source: I received an ebook for a honest and sincer review.

Photobucket

I am a huge fan of Lucy and her books. I was first introduced to Lucy when I read a short story she did in an anthology and since then I have been lucky enough to read her book Feathermore which is the first book in the trilogy. So when she contacted me to see if I would be interested in taking part in the blog tour for this book I quickly said yes. I was so curious to see where this would go since I loved Feathermore.

Fallenmore begins right where Feathermore left off which I love. Blake is now living with Jade and he is determined to protect her as best as he can. The thing with Jade is she now is hearing a new voice and its warning her not to trust Blake. She is so confused and not sure what is real and whats not.

I am so happy that Lucy brought Blake out more because I was curious about him when he briefly appeared in Feathermore. It was nice to find out more about Blake. I have to say that I kinda like Blake. If he could be my book boyfriend I would be thrilled because he is the kind of guy I like. The reason I say this is because he is determined to protect Jade and living with her he has taken on a role of care giver (making her breakfast) and he is always there for her.

You can see that it breaks his heart because no matter what he is doing and does for Jade she doesn’t realize how much he cares about her because she is still hung up on another guy, Avan. I really wish that Jade would get over Avan and realize how much sweeter Blake is.

I loved reading this book and I had to pace myself because I could tell I was reading it to fast. I wanted to savoir the book and the characters. I can’t wait for the final book to come out which I hope in a way is soon although I am sad to see the series end.

I have to say that this is one author and her books that I highly recommend.

Thanks so much Lucy for contacting me about being a part of the tour and for sending me an eBook to read and review.

(Blog Tour & Giveaways) Fallenmore Promo

I was so excited when Lucy contacted me asking if I would be interested in being on the blog tour for her latest book, which just happens to be the second book in her Feathermore trilogy called Fallenmore. I quickly said yes because I love Lucy’s books.

About the book:
When darkness consumes you; will it be hard to find the light?

After Jade’s world was torn apart, she is unsure of where she belongs, if anywhere at all. Deceived by those she trusted the most, she must now accept her fate and the life that lays before her.
The voices are back but this time, they are trying to lure her into the darkness. But could they be telling her the truth? That the only person she has been able to trust since the death of her boyfriend, Avan, is lying to her too? If the voices are right… Could she really trust him?

In Fallenmore, the second book in the Feathermore Trilogy, Jade will embark in a quest through the pits of Hell. The question now is: once she is in, will they ever let her out?

(Give Away & Review) Back to School Labelling

Its hard to believe but there is only roughly three weeks left of summer vacation before Michael goes back to school. Here in Quebec the kids roughly go back to school the last week of August compared to other provinces which start after Labor Day weekend.

I have a confussion to make and I really hope that I am not the only parent who does this (please let me know) but I start my back to school shopping right after school finishes. Michael comes home with a partial list of supplies (this is mainly the basic list) that he will need for when school starts and then will come home with another list from the teacher (an Oh BTW we forgot to add these to the previous list).

The reason I started shopping right away was because Michael’s school finally teamed up with a local company that will package the supplies and deliver it to our house as part of this years fund raising for the school. Can I just say that that was a life saver. I managed to get a majority of his supplies this way with the exception of a few things. I am just waiting for it to come in now.

Another reason I started early was because everything has to be labelled and its a ton of stuff to label because its supplies for both French and English classes and everything has to be labelled. ( I will be so happy when he is in high school and nothing has to be labelled.)

When Michael started preschool he had a list of supplies he needed and I had used white labels and write his name on them which took forever until a parent told me about premade labels you could order online and let me tell you those have been a godsend. I love them and order these kinds of labels each and every year.

I have used another company for labels and found them to be getting a little expensive and was prepared to buy a labeler but then I stumbled upon an opportunity that I couldn’t resist.

I was given the chance to review Oliver’s Labels Back to School pack. If your unfamiliar with Oliver’s Labels well they are a Canadian Company and exclusive to the company is the Found It tracking technology on their labels. Which is optional when you order your labels.

What is Found It tracking you ask? Well its really simple. Its an online lost and found. If someone finds something you lost they log on and enter your code and an email is sent to you. None of your personal info is revealed to the finder.

When I checked out Oliver’s Labels online I was pleasantly surprised at the selection of designs they had, over 40! There is enough to suit the fancy of any boy, girl and adult. The designs range from sports, princess, space, animals, flowers and so much more.

I recently just got my labels and I was impressed with the look of the labels because I wasn’t sure what I was going to get. The labels were super easy to use and Michael loved the look of them. We picked out the sports pack.

We received the following in our pack:

  • 20 x Original Labels
  • 30 x Mini Labels
  • 6 x Shoe Labels
  • 35 x Stick-eez™ Clothing Labels
  • 1 x Large Bag Tag
  • 3 x Mini Bag Tags

For a total of 95 labels.

I was going to take a picture of the labels we got but sorry Michael’s name (first and last) are on them. But what is show above is what we got.

I really like the labels. They were well made and very nice. Michael loves them. He had so much fun picking out what he wanted and I noticed during the ordering process that I think you could order different designs within your order.

Sadly at the time of this post I haven’t been able to label any of Michael’s school supplies because I am waiting for them to come in but I did buy Michael a new water bottle for school along with containers since they prefer a waste free lunch so I labelled that and we have been putting the labels to the test with washing them by hand and in the dishwasher and guess what they are still stuck on the items looking brand new. So this says alot about the labels and I am sure they will last the year too.

I love the labels and I am 120% sure I will be ordering from this company again and passing the word on to all my mother friends telling them about these great labels.

Now I have some good news for you readers, Oliver’s Labels has allowed me to give away one back to school pack so that you can label your child’s school supplies.

The give away is open to everyone in Canada and the US with a valid mailing address. Sorry no PO Boxes.

The give away is until August 19th.
