Review: The Dragonfly Secret

TITLE: The Dragonfly Secret: A story of Boundless Love
AUTHOR: Cleo & John Adams
DATE: October 2008

This is such a beautiful story. I was in tears reading it. When my favorite aunt passed away I had gotten little signs like that. Its nice to know that there can be signs out there. My son loved the book.

The illustrations are beautiful in the book as you can see below. The book is about a mother and father who are grieving the death of their son and the fathers parents. David uses the dragonfly to get the attention of his parents. He gives the dragonfly three things to do for him the next day in the garden. All which Lea, the dragonfly does.

Its a beautiful story about love and hope that transends all bountries.

This picture is the part in the book where he is asking the dragonfly to do three things for him. “You have message to deliver, a promise so true, it can only be carried by a dragonfly like you.”

“The tenderness in her eyes drew Lea closer. The air around her became warm. The flowers and grass brightened.”

Review: The Best Halloween Hunt Ever (with stickers)

TITLE: The Best Halloween Hunt Ever (with Stickers)
AUTHOR: John Speirs
DATE: August 2008

This is a cute Halloween book for kids. You have to read the rebus and look for the various hidden Halloween treats, pumpkins and the spooky creatures that are hidden in the pictures.

You start out at school, then its off into the city, on the way to the country, all the way to Grandmas house, off to her garden, then back in the car off to the school, the haunted house and then to the parade.

This is a great book for finding items hidden in the pages.

Review: The Kissing Hand

Title: The Kissing Hand

Author: Audrey Penn

Date: June 2006

This is a wonderfully written children’s book. Its very heartwarming and by the end of the book I am sure you will be crying like I was.

The book is about Chester and he is afraid to go to school. His mother tells him about the family secret she was told when she was a little one. Its called the Kissing Hand. The kissing hand is about reassuring him of her love for him.

Going through the I don’t want to go to school with my son, I was recommended this book. The book talks about how we all have to do things we don’t like. That yes it will be scary and strange at first and we will end up liking it. I started doing this with my son.

This is a great book to own in ones library.

Review: Butterflies In my Stomach

Title: Butterflies in my Stomach & other school Hazards

Author: Serge Bloch

Date: August 5, 2008

This is such a cute book for kids that might be having a problem going to school. The graphics in the book are so well done. With they use of drawings and photographs of inanimate objects makes the book that much more special.

My son was laughing his head off. Serge uses child’s-eye look at idiomatic expressions like “ants in your pants,” “a tough nut to crack” and “every cloud has a silver lining”. This are all sayings we use in the adult world but have we ever wondered what kids picture when we say them? This book shows that.

Not sure if this will help him but he really enjoyed having it read to him over and over again. I am going to have to go out and check out his other books.
