And so is Rafe. The sexual tension between them is thick enough to touch, and damn, does he want to touch. So he suggests something that will benefit them both. Book Blitz/ Destiny Road

Destiny Road – PROMO Blitz
By Melissa Wray

Young Adult

Date Published: August 27, 2012

Destiny Road is a story of decisions and consequence. It is a real life journey that changes the life of the main character, Jessica, in ways she couldn’t imagine. Brought up without a father, at 16 Jessica meets him for the first time. Before she has a chance to get to know him, her mother whisks her away to a new town. Leaving her life-long friends behind and starting at a new school is more than Jessica can cope with. Being threatened on her first day at her new school doesn’t help at all. She struggles to fit in and begins to question her life. And then she is faced with a huge decision – a chance to go back to her old life – but it comes at a cost. Follow Jessica’s journey as she struggles to find the right path and deals with the trauma of a new life, her first relationship, and growing up.

EXCERPT
We drive in silence with only the tunes of country radio bellowing out  – a station she insists on listening to. I usually protest, even though secretly I don’t mind it.
After a while, Mum lowers the volume and clears her throat. ‘There’s a letter in Berta for you.’
I pick up her rainbow coloured handbag that is more like a portable suitcase. It’s called Berta because it’s big enough to have an identity. I don’t know how she ever finds anything in it. Rummaging around, I finally come across a creased envelope. It’s addressed to her, not me. I look across questioningly but her eyes remain fixed on the road ahead. I pull the envelope out and open it. My hands begin to shake as I realise what it is.
‘When did this come?’
‘The other day …’ she coughs. ‘But I haven’t had a chance to mention it to you.’ She manages to look apologetic.
I flip the airline ticket over and read the date. Quickly, I mentally calculate when it is and realise it’s during the next school holidays. The surprise leaves me speechless. I was not expecting anything like this, especially planned so far in advance. We’ve only just started school so the holidays are still ages away.
She glances across. ‘You can read the letter if you want.’
I’m not sure if she really wants me to, or is being polite. I continue to hold the ticket undecided. The letter might be personal. It was addressed to her after all. Seconds pass, but I can’t bring myself to unfold the paper. What if I don’t like what it says?
‘Just read the damn thing.’ Mum grabs it and with a flick of her wrist, it unfolds.
She shoves the letter back in my lap. The writing is not familiar, but I know straight away who wrote it.

Dear Ally,

I hope I’m not overstepping the boundaries but I bought an airline ticket for Jessica. If you think it would be all right, she could come down and stay with Janet and me during the holidays. I’ll leave the final decision up to you of course. You know what’s best for her. I’m just learning.
I could get some time off so she wouldn’t be here by herself all day. We could spend some time together.
But what do I know about things a sixteen year old wants. That’s probably the last thing. I hope not.
Anyway, that’s it from me. Hope your new shop is working out.

Take care,
Bill.

The silence in the car is deafening. I read the letter again. An airline ticket booked and paid for by a man I have only recently met. Someone who is supposed to be one of the most important figures in my life, yet has played no role until now. My biological father.

photo authorMelissaWray_zpsd08ca49e.pngWhen I started writing it was more of a hobby for me. I enjoyed creating stories and then I started to become addicted to writing more and more!
I write because it gives me the freedom to create a world of make believe with enough reality thrown in to make it believable.
Destiny Road is my first published novel and I am very proud of it. I was never able to say thank you to my dad for saying yes when I asked could I live with him. He passed away several years ago and it has always bothered me that I could not get those words out before he died. Now with Destiny Road I feel like I have said them, so hopefully he knows.

The Book Buying Tag

Recently while watching Youtube vlogs I stumbled upon this fun tag and I thought I would take part.

I am inviting all my readers to take part. If you take part please let me know in the comments below so that I can go and check all your responses.

THE BOOK BUYING TAG

1. Where do you buy your books from?

– I normally buy my books at Chapters.

2. Do you ever pre-order books and if so do you do this in-store or online?
– No I have never pre-ordered any books. I know isn’t that strange for a book blogger not to do?

3. On average, how many books do you buy a month?
-It all depends whats in the Scholastic book club form. It can be anywhere from no books to twenty books a month from the Scholastic forms. I haven’t really bought much from the bookstores.

4. Do you used your local library?

-We tend to use the local library more in the summer time because Michael takes part in the summer reading activities and its easier to get the books back their on time then during the school year.

5. If so, how my books can you/do you borrow at a time?
-Our cards have a 50 book limit so you can borrow within that limit and we have three library cards so thats like a 150 book limit. The only time we ever used that was when our library was getting renovated and we maxed out all three cards. During the summer I think we always take out books/magazines/games/cds/videos/video games on each visit.

6. What is your opinion on library books?
– I am really happy with our library because they always have the newest books and magazines. They are always in great shape and we have awesome library events throughout the year.

7. How do you feel about charity shop/second hand books?
-I love going into second hand bookstores because sometimes you can find great books and great prices.

8. Do you keep your read and TBR pile together/on the same book shelf?
– My whole bookcases are TBR piles.

9. Do you plan to read all of the books that you own?
– I would love to read all the books I own but realistically its probably not going to happen. To many books to read.

10. What do you do with books you that you own that you feel you will never read/felt you did not enjoy?
– The books that I feel that I will never read or felt like I would enjoy are passed on to friends, church or donation boxes.

11. Have you ever donated books?
-Yes I donate books all the time.

12. Have you ever been on a book buying ban?
– Yes I have been on a book buying ban.

13. Do you feel that you buy too many books?

Honestly yes I feel as though I buy too many books. I have to blame the Scholastic book club forms that my son comes home with. I know I don’t buy as much as I use to from Chapters since switching to the plums reward card. With the plum card I have to pay full price for the books and I no longer get discounts like I did with the iRewards card so that has really helped my book buying.

So those are my answers looking forward to seeing and reading yours

Book Blitz/ Fathoms of Forgiveness

Fathoms of Forgiveness – PROMO Blitz
By Nadia Scrieva
Paranormal Romance – Epic Fantasy
Date Published: March 2012

Meet the brave and fearless Visola; a woman unlike any you’ve ever encountered. Her wit and humor take her through the darkest of dangers with a smile always on her face–and her smile only grows larger as the odds become more impossible. With no concern for her own safety, Visola dives headfirst into the throes of battle to protect the people and country she loves, even if it means facing her worst enemy–the one man who can get inside her head and break her down like no other: her own husband…
There is no divorce in the undersea kingdom of Adlivun. Marriage is a bond that lasts until death–even if death comes in several centuries, and in that time your spouse happens to become your sworn enemy. This is the conflict that General Visola Ramaris faces when she learns that the mighty Vachlan is behind the attacks on her kingdom. She has sworn to protect Adlivun with her life, but long ago, she also swore to love and honor her husband…

Visola must choose whether she will destroy Vachlan once and for all, or attempt the hardest thing conceivable: communication. After two hundred years of desertion, she knows she can never forgive him. When he threatens the person dearest to her, she must take action. Confronting Vachlan on enemy territory would be nothing short of suicide. She knows that if she falls into his custody, the deranged mercenary would relish torturing her and making her lose her own sanity.

Princess Aazuria forbids Visola from taking matters into her own hands. She will do anything it takes to protect her friend from the man who wants to crush her. Alas, Visola is a crazy, uncontrollable warrior with the blood of Vikings in her veins. Why would she ever consider doing the safe and predictable thing?
EXCERPT

When Aazuria entered the room, her eyes were immediately drawn to Visola’s wild red hair, which had recently been a lustrous mass of audacious curls. Now, her hair was limp. It hung against her head flat, frizzy and defeated. Aazuria’s eyes darted to the warrior’s sunken cheekbones and gaunt face. She saw the bruises on Visola’s neck before her eyes traveled further to the withered, wasted limbs. Every visible part of her friend’s body was covered in fresh scars. She saw the bandaged hands. Visola had been starved and tortured.
Perhaps in these modern times, even under the surface of the sea, kings, queens, and the aristocracy had close to zero significance. Perhaps the words and decrees which left Aazuria’s mouth would have minimal consequences. No one in the throne room felt this way as they awaited Aazuria’s judgment with bated breath. Sionna was standing aside, with her arms crossed. The newly-crowned queen gripped her husband’s sword tightly in her fist as Trevain and Elandria entered the room behind her.
Aazuria shifted her eyes to the man standing beside her friend. Her face was expressionless.
“Approach me, Vachlan,” she whispered.
The man began walking toward her. Although his stride was dignified, there was hesitation on his face. Visola began speaking, pleading words which Aazuria could not hear over the sound of her heart pounding in her ears.
When Vachlan was close enough to strike, Aazuria gazed at him with death in her eyes.
“Kneel,” she commanded him. Her chest was rising and falling perceptibly.
Vachlan knew that this would be a very unwise thing to do, but he owed it to Aazuria. He owed it to Visola, and to Adlivun—the nation he had once called home.  He lowered his head and dropped to one knee before the queen, saluting her across his chest. His eyes were level with the sword she held, and he could see the veins bulging through her translucent pale skin from how tightly she clutched it.
“It would be futile to order you punished,” she said slowly. “No one can even attempt to hurt you as much as you have hurt her.”
“I know,” he answered quietly.
“But it is my duty to try.”
She struck out with her sword, slicing the air until the blade collided with his face, knocking Vachlan off his knees and onto the floor. Aazuria could vaguely hear Visola screaming for her to stop, but she was already standing over Vachlan and forcing the tip of her sword between his teeth. Her previous strike had resulted in a huge bleeding gash along the side of his handsome face, but it had not been enough to kill him. She was poised to finish the job.
Vachlan moved his tongue against the steel, tasting the freshly-sharpened metal edge garnished with the metallic taste of his own blood. It is rare that the wine so perfectly accompanies the main dish, he thought as he swallowed the coppery fluid accumulating in his mouth. Kind of like a German Pinot Noir. He looked into the azure eyes of Adlivun’s queen and realized that this was no longer the innocent, charitable philanthropist he had known hundreds of years ago. She was hard. He wondered what percentage of the tempered rage behind her eyes he was responsible for generating.
“One reason.” Aazuria was demanding. “Give me one convincing reason that I should not thrust my blade directly through your skull.”
