All but one of the heroes previously starred in a popular book from Rick Riordan Presents. You”ll be reunited with Aru Shah, Zane Obispo, Min the fox spirit, Sal and Gabi, Tristan Strong, Nizhoni Begay, Paola Santiago, Sikander Aziz, and Riley Oh. Who is the new hero? Read Rick Riordan”s short story to find out!

Before I begin my review I just quickly want to thank Rockstar Book Tours for allowing me to be a part of this tour and for providing an egalley of the book to read for my tour stop today.
I realized when I was reading The Cursed Carnival and Other Calamities that I don’t read enough anthologies. Not sure if it’s because I don’t gravitate towards them or I don’t hear enough about them. Hopefully moving forward I will start to read more of them because I do enjoy reading them and they are the kind of book you can pick up numerous times and not worry about what you previously read. Which I have to admit is quite often my case of not remembering what I read the night before.
I feel ashamed to admit that I have never read a Rick Riordan or a Rick Riordon Presents book before so all these characters were new to me. I think the main reason I never read them is because of the mythology. I guess in my head I thought of other things but after reading this I have to say it intrigued me. Which is a good thing.
That is something else I need to work on moving forward as I seem as though I am the last person on earth to read any of his books. What should I start with first?
I am one hundred percent sure that if you read any of Rick Riordon or his presents line of books that you will absolutely love this.
The Cursed Carnival and Other Calamities is a collection of short stories which feature the characters from Aru Shah, Zane Obispo, Min, Sal and Gabi, Gum Baby, Nizhoni Begay, Paola Santiago, Sikander Aziz, and Riley Oh. If you counted only nine you would be correct because the tenth story features a brand new character from Rick Riordon.
The authors behind each short story are Roshani Chokshi, J.C. Cervantes, Yoon Ha Lee, Carlos Hernandez, Kwame Mbalia, Rebecca Roanhorse, Tehlor Kay Mejia, Sarwat Chadda, Graci Kim, and Rick Riordan.
This book was filled with action, mystery, and adventure. Just the kind of books that I like to read.
For having not read the Presents line I definitely enjoyed reading this and it actually piqued my interest to want to read the books. Had I read the books I am sure I would have enjoyed this way more. I know I definitely want to read the Present line moving forward because if this is any indication of what the books are about then I want in. Perhaps that will be my goal for 2022.
I can’t pick a favorite because each story had something I loved about it but I think once I read the books I might be able to come back and say if I have a true favorite or favorites. I definitely plan on picking this up once again when I read the books in the Presents line.
