June 2017 Books Unhauling

Good morning everyone. For the past two years I have been sharing with you the books that I have unhauled from my collection. I started doing this in 2015 and at that time I  released 211 books and then last year due to life happening I missed months sharing what I unhauled and it went undocumented so the only number I have is 124 from the months I did share.

I am going to make 2017 a better year in sharing what books I am unhauling. As a book blogger and a book reader I don’t tend to keep the books once I read them unless there is a special meaning for them, so I always pass them along to friends/family and if they don’t want I bring to good will.

This month since I am officially back to blogging on a normal bases I have dug out partial reviews of the books I read and started to complete them and dug out that bag of books to reference back so now there is no need to keep the books so I am passing them along to another good home.

So lets get right into June and take a look at what I unhauled this month:

  1. Geekerella by Ashley Poston
  2. Crazy House by James Patterson & Gabrielle Charbonnet
  3. Humans, Bow Down by James Patterson & Emily Raymond
  4. The Glass Arrow by Kristen Simmons

Read below for an excerpt from the book:

I spent the rest of the day filing paperwork for the funding process and preparing to open the library doors on Monday morning. I told Rose and Becca to spread the word. Tarryn had decided to move her smaller items in already, and she was asleep by nine the same night. It didn’t seem strange to me that I had a roommate; instead it made me feel comfortable. I never lived alone before, and I would feel lonely otherwise. Tarryn was quiet, but I knew in time she’d get used to me and I’d get used to her. We just needed to get to know each other first.
Once I was done with the paperwork, I filed the books that were left on the shelf from when Gram was still here. As I placed the classic books on the correct shelves, I felt a longing to finish reading my mysterious book in my nook.
So, instead of going to bed at a decent hour, I climbed into my cozy space and picked the book back up. I didn’t open it right away. Instead I inspected the outside for any sort of title. I found nothing of the sort. I flipped to the title page once more, trying to find my place, and that’s when I saw the word on the page. It was just a simple “The” typed out on the once blank title page. I ran my finger across it and realized it was printed in ink as if the press had done it. I was sure the night before it was blank, but then again, I was sure my dream about being with a man was real. So I wasn’t really a reliable source at the moment.
I found the spot where I ended with a dog-eared page. I absolutely hated doing this to the book and didn’t remember it at all. I usually had a nice bookmark, but this seemed to be the only thing to mark the page before I had fallen asleep. Running my fingers across the crease at the corner of the page, I settled back and started reading.
I woke up once again face down, this time I was in grass. I blinked my eyes and felt the blades of grass tickling my nose and lips. I pulled myself up and took a deep breath. I looked around and saw the fields upon which I had dreamt of the night before. I was back in England. I was dreaming the same dream. How odd.
There were times when I had thought I had the same dream over and over again, to only find out that it was my mind playing tricks on me. This was no mistake. I was, once again, in the same place.
“Emmeline, are you all right?” I looked up and blocked the sun from my eyes. The man from before was standing in front of me. “You … you disappeared. It happened so fast that I fear I cannot explain to you how it happened. Now you’re here once again.” He sounded really confused and, to put it lightly, so was I.
This dream felt way too real. It was exactly like before. So real and tangible that I couldn’t explain it even if I tried.
“I … I don’t know how I’m here again,” I mumbled.
He reached out to steady me as I swayed to the side. “You’ve been gone for days. I worried I was going mad, that your presence was one of my imaginings. I dared not to speak a word to anyone about it. I have to admit, Emmeline, I’ve been going slightly crazed since I saw you last.”
His hair was disheveled and he had grown a slight beard that only enhanced the sexiness of his strong jawline. His deep set blue-green eyes looked weary, and for that I felt awful.
My sudden disappearance had made him fall apart, that was apparent.
“I’ll tell you, I feel like I’m going crazy too. Trust me,” I admitted. “Can we sit somewhere? Out of the sun?”
“Of course.”
He held my arm and led me to a tree in the center of the field. Once underneath the large tree, I felt instantly better. I looked down at my clothes and saw that I was, once again, in my own clothes. This time a little better than before. I was wearing yoga pants and an old T-shirt.
“I can’t explain how or why I’m here. Hell, I don’t even know your name, but I’m here again and I’m beginning to think that this isn’t a dream. That I’m really here, with you,” I said as I touched his arm. “I’m not from … here.”
I didn’t know how to explain it to him, but I did the best any girl who was somehow traveling through time could. I didn’t have answers or explanations, but I had a gut feeling.
“I’m from a different time as you. As you can tell by my lovely clothing, I’m not from 1893.”
He placed his fingers on my lips, stopping me, while shaking his head.
“This isn’t right, Emmeline. Trickery at a time like this isn’t fair,” he said as he stood up fast. “I am leaving soon. I shall not have you doing this to me.”
My mouth fell open in shock and I stood. “Do something to you? Listen here, buddy, I didn’t ask for this. I sat down to read a book and then boom, I’m stuck in England with a stranger.”
I pointed at myself. “Look at me. Do I really look like I belong here?”
He looked at my clothing and up to my hair, and I could see his cheeks redden.
“You are dressed very indecent, I suppose. No woman I’ve ever met wears trousers. Nor do they wear clothing that fitting.”
I laughed. He thought this was indecent, he should see some of the dresses I had worn to parties. They were nothing like the dresses he was used to seeing on a woman. We absolutely didn’t dress ladylike anymore. My sexy little black dress that currently hung in my closet would definitely shock some of the people of this era for sure.
“I don’t know why I’m here. I’m absolutely not trying to, I don’t know, hurt you or anything. I don’t know how to go home.” I slumped back against the tree. “I wish that I could prove to you that I’m not lying to you, but I cannot. You’ll have to just believe me, I guess.” It was as simple as that. He could either believe this bat-shit crazy explanation or not. One way or another, I didn’t care. I just wanted to go home.
“I don’t know why, Emmeline, but I feel as if I should say that I do believe you.” He ran a hand through his thick hair, mussing it up. “I just don’t know how else to explain your abrupt presence. One minute you are here and the next you’re disappearing into thin air. I read many books on fiction, so I suppose it could be true.”
“Well, I may know someone who knows something. She works for the lucky bastard that owns that house,” I told him pointing to the house where Nancy was the last time I saw her. She was probably cooking something again for her master.
He smiled. “That house?”
“Yes. Her name is Nancy.”
“Ah. Nancy. And who is this Nancy woman you speak of?” He continued to smile as if this was a joke, but I ignored it.
“She’s a cook. I met her on my last visit here,” I explained. “She’s not the nicest person I’ve ever met, but I think she has some answers.”
“I must argue that Miss Nancy is more than a cook. She’s also the lady upon with which I trust my household while I’m gone. She’s more of an aunt than a housekeeper,” he said as he took my hand in his. “It’s very nice to finally introduce myself to you, Emmeline Bailey. I’m Jack Ridgewell or you may just call me the lucky bastard.”

Excerpt:

“Oh!” the Mom answered, but could not contain her curiosity with one hand holding the hyper toddler and the other on her hip she could not resist, “You two don’t look like brother-sister, hmmm. So, what is your relationship?” she inquired with a slight smile in a soft voice but without any inhibition. A handful of seniors sitting in the same room observed all the drama and nodded to each other while their fingers were moving on the Tulsi neck beads.

Neena rolled her eyes and thought to herself, “Jeez! We Indians are always darn inquisitive.”
Nikhil immediately got up and started walking towards the dining area. This was happening to them for the umpteenth time, and he was now tired of clarifying things. He had lived in this country for half a decade now and still he could never understand the fascination Indians had for marriage and children.

Neena was confused at first because it was unlike Nikhil to be so rude. On the contrary, sometimes Neena referred to him on lessons in patience but today it was different. But then she didn’t have a choice; she felt it was rude to walk away from the young mother leaving the conversation unanswered. Moreover given Indian mentality in all possibility, she might even follow them till she had a convincing answer to her question.

Sundays In Bed With… A Third Wife

Welcome to our Sundays In Bed With… Meme! The meme that dares to ask what book has been in your bed this morning? Come share what book you’ve spent time curled up reading in bed, or which book you wish you had time to read today!

This is being hosted by two of the sweetest people I have to privilege of knowing in real life Kate and Kim. Sadly we don’t talk like we use to because you know real life happens but there is not a day that goes by that I don’t think of them both.

I am pre-writing this the night before so I am more the likely not curled up in bed reading but probably curled up on the couch reading since everyone will still probably be sleeping and I can’t sleep in.

It was a long weekend here in Quebec and basically the first long weekend to start the summer although its not really summer like here but we will have to bare with it and hope for nicer weather.

Anyways the reason why you are here is to see what book I am reading today and the next one I will be starting:

3RD WIFE by Lisa Jewell

What are you curled up and reading?

June 2017 Books Bought

Since starting my blog back in August of 2008 I always try to share what books I get with you so that you can see what I will be reading and I am always looking for a place to link them so that others can see them so from now on I will be sharing my links on Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality. As Marlene has offered to co-host Stacking The Shelves with Tynga’s Reviews. Marlene is a new to be blogger and I look forward to checking out her blog.

As you can see I switched this up and will be posting monthly because  I have to say since doing this instead of posting the books in my weekly haul I am much more aware of the books that I am buying. This year I am making it my top priority to read the ones I am buying before buying new ones. I know its easier said then done but that is my goal.

I am trying to get better with my book buying and trying to stick to sales, bargain books or reward plum bonus point events. As a book lover its hard not to buy books.

As you can see this month is a little calmer and thats a good thing. Here is what I bought this month:

  1. Follow Me Back by A.V Geiger
  2. Love Lies beneath by Ellen Hopkins
  3. A Travel Guide Novel Destinations by Shannon McKenna Schmidt & Joni Rendon
  4. Every Last Lie by Mary Kubica
  5. Under Her Skin by Adriana Anders
  6. By Her Touch by Adriana Anders

Meme: Waiting On Wednesday

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted over at Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

I decided to get back into doing this meme again and I am going to mix it up a little bit and include all books and that means old, recently released and upcoming releases.

So my pick today is:

19107949

I just recently read Ali’s The Heartbreaker series this week and loved it so now I want to find this book. It was released March 2014.

From a fresh new voice on the contemporary YA scene, My Life with the Walter Boys centers on the prim, proper, and always perfect Jackie Howard. When her world is turned upside down by tragedy, Jackie must learn to cut loose and be part of a family again.

Jackie does not like surprises. Chaos is the enemy! The best way to get her successful, busy parents to notice her is to be perfect. The perfect look, the perfect grades-the perfect daughter. And then…

Surprise #1: Jackie’s family dies in a freak car accident.

Surprise #2: Jackie has to move cross-country to live with the Walters-her new guardians.

Surprise #3: The Walters have twelve sons. (Well, eleven, but Parker acts like a boy anyway)

Now Jackie must trade in her Type A personality and New York City apartment for a Colorado ranch and all the wild Walter boys who come with it. Jackie is surrounded by the enemy-loud, dirty, annoying boyswho have no concept of personal space. Okay, several of the oldest guys are flat-out gorgeous. But still annoying. She’s not stuck-up or boring-no matter what they say. But proving it is another matter. How can she fit in and move on when she needs to keep her parents’ memory alive by living up to the promise of perfect?

Ali Novak wrote My Life with the Walter Boys when she was just 15 years old. First a hit on the online community Wattpad, this debut novel has already been read over 33 million times and is loved by readers around the world.

What are you waiting on this week?

Meme: Top Ten Tuesday One day I Will Get To You

Top Ten Tuesday is  an original feature/weekly meme created over at The Broke and the Bookish

As a book reader you hear about all kinds of books, stand alones and series that you really want to read. I really enjoy reading stand alones because you read them and then its over a done with  but when it comes to series you hear all about the first book and you buy them. You might be lucky and read them and then you might not be so lucky and they are left sitting on your shelf waiting to be picked up to read and that my dear friends is my situation I have a ton of series sitting waiting to be read and I am making 2017 the year to try and read them. So this list is of the series I have currently sitting on my bookshelves.

Welcome to my Top Ten Series I’ve Been Meaning To Start But Haven’t

  1. An Everlife Series/Intertwined/White Rabbit Chronicles by Gena Showalter. I have Firstlife sitting on my shelf and the Lifeblood is currently available in stores so this shouldn’t be a problem to read since there is only two books so far.I have all of Intertwined and the first three in the White Rabbit series.
  2. The Red Queen Series by Victoria Aveyard. I have Red Queen and Glass Sword currently on my shelf and this is also another small series that I can probably get through rather quickly with the third book currently available.
  3. The Glittering Court Series by Richelle Meade. This is another small series with only two books so far.
  4. From Manhattan With Love series by Sarah Morgan. I was super excited when this come out and I have been buying them as soon as they hit the shelves because I love reading stories that take place in NYC and all four are sitting there waiting for me to read.
  5. Splintered series by A. G. Howard. When I first saw the covers I knew I had to own them because they are just stunning and because its a spin off of Alice in Wonderland my favorite fairy tale. I have the whole series.
  6. I have to include Harry Potter in this because I do own the books just never read them. Yea I know.
  7. The Mortal Instruments/Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare
  8. Madman’s Daughter series by Megan Shepard
  9. The Young Elites by Marie Lu
  10. The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer

I know I have a few extras added in but I figured since they were by the same author I would include them. What do series do you have sitting waiting to be read?
