March’s Local Book Blogger Meet Up

If you are a regular reader of my blog you will know that once a month a bunch of us local book blogger’s meet up at a local tea shop to drink some great hot drinks (no coffee is served), eat some great cakes or other kinds of food, to exchange books and to talk.

In case you happen to be a new reader (welcome) once a month myself and some very local bloggers meet up at a tea shop. The local bloggers are: Tina from Bookshipper, Avis from She Reads and Reads, Donna from Books Bound and Linda from Better With Books. We have been meeting for well over a year now and we all love our meet ups.

I had the chance this past weekend to take part in a Book Bloggers and Publishers Online Conference that Terry Kate from Romance In The Backseat organized. Which was very imformative and I enjoyed being able to take part. So everyone was eagered to hear about it and to find out what I got from the conference.

Just before we got into any other discussions we exchange books. Here is what I managed to snag:

From Linda she gave everyone her new business cards (its not pictured) but they were super cute and she gave Michael the Geronimo Stilton book # 40 The Karate Mouse. Which he has placed on top of his night table. Anxiously awaiting to get books # 12 and up so that he can read it. He is a serial reader. He won’t start any other books unless they are in order.

From Tina I picked up:
Swoon At Your Own Risk
Tagged
White Cat (Which I am so excited to read and can’t wait!)
Saving Maddie
My Double Life
She’s So Dead To Us (another one I am super excited for)
The Karma Club
The Way I See It (I really want to read this one too!)

When we meet up no topic is left alone. We talk about books (upcoming), blogging, what is going on it our lives, what is going on in the blogosphere, mail, upcoming author signings and of course BEA/NYC.

Something else we talked about was hoarding. I personally have to admit that I have things but don’t consider myself a hoarder because I have no trouble passing things on ie clothes, books, games, dishes etc you name it I can give it away. What about you? Do you think of yourself as a hoarder or can you get rid of your stuff?

Another thing we did this time at our meet up was a sorta show and tell of our knitting. This was something new that Linda and I just got into. Donna and Tina are knitters and Avis has recently learned as well.

Linda learned from watching YouTube videos, Avis has been taking some classes and my sister taught me. I have to say I should have taken a photo of our works, too bad maybe next time. Or maybe you guys can make a post on your knitting? HINT HINT….

We are all making a scarf. Each one different in a different style and colors.

Donna showed us how to perl which I didn’t know how to do I was just doing basic knitting and having learned how to perl I have to say that I am thinking of restarting my scarf again to add that element into my scarf.

Anyway here is a picture of what I have done up until last night:

What do you think? The color is Burgundy which is a favorite color of mine.

Looking forward to our next meet up as it will be the last one until we meet at the train station in May for our trip to NYC.

Books Bought # 35

As you can see I have another Books Bought post. I wasn’t planning on buying anything more since my last Books Bought post but I had to go in and pick up a gift card for a present and Michael needed:

Geronimo Stilton Attack of the Bandit Cats book 8
Geronimo Stilton A Fabumouse Vacation for Geronimo book 9

Then as I was walking past the Children’s/YA bargain books I spotted this:

I figured this would be a great book to leave in my car for times when I need something to read while waiting for Michael at school and it was a steal at $3.99 minus 10% for being an iRewards member.

I then spotted Twilight The Graphic Novel Volume 1 on my way to the cash. I love the cover. I have never read any of the Twilight series despite the fact that I do own the first book in the series.

I have actually started to read this and the I really like the art done by Young Kim.

Not pictured in this is a book I bought at the second hand bookstore for Michael and its Geronimo Stilton Book # 25 The Search For Sucken Treasure. We are slowly starting to build up his collection.

So this is what I bought this week, did you buy anything?

Wreck This Journal-Productive first Week I Think!

If you remember earlier this week I blogged that after seeing this book last week that I went out and bought it and that I was going to Wreck This Journal. Welcome to week 1.

I started off slow because I had many reservations about wrecking this book but once I had a few challenges done I became addicted to the book and I probably could have spent the whole week wrecking this journal but I didn’t and held one and only completed a weeks worth of destruction.

The first thing I did was decorated the instruction page on Saturday night once Michael was in bed and I raided his crayon and marker bins.

Sunday the task was to Crack The Spine and of course this can in taken in any sense so instead of physically cracking the spine of the book I went online and looked for pictures of cracked book spines and of course spines.

On Monday once Michael was on the school bus I decided that I would work on my next task in the book and that was Close the Journal Write/Scribble something on the edges.

I wrote Dream, Create and Inspire all words that I always use and think of.

Tuesday once I had a few minutes to myself I decided to go for a super easy task and that was this: (Yes that is Enrique) (I used a photo from online with stickers from Michael’s sticker bin.)

This is actually part of a Tues and Wed task where you had to write one work over and over again and this one took me hours to do and as you can see the word I chose was DREAM. I used various markers and then the letters are from my scrapbooking bin.

Thursday I looked for an easy task and saw Add your own page numbers and basically used all kinds of markers and put all kinds of numbers on the page.

Friday night Michael helped me out with this one and we dug through his sticker bin for all kinds of circle stickers and put it all over both pages as the task called for filling the page with circles. Plus we added a penny and some Irish coins.

Last night once everyone was in bed I decided to do a little bit of work on the next task and its a three part task. I only completed the first task and it was to Doodle on the cover well since the cover is black I decided that I would just decorate it with whatever I could find in sticker bins and scrapbooking bins.

This was my first week. Check back next week to see what I have done.

You can also check out Marie’s Daisy’s Book Journal because she decided to take part with me. If you happen to be doing this please let me know so that I can link back to you.

Books Bought # 34

I have to start off by saying “Darn Chapters for having a sale on last week!” Last week all children’s and YA books were all 20% off and then if you had the iReward card you got another 10% off. That is 30% off on a book. Who could pass up on a deal like that?

Then for any other books if you bought 3 or more you got 20% off with your iRewards card. Another good deal. So yea I have to admit I went a little crazy with book buying these past two weeks. In total I save myself $45.

Here are the goodies that I bought:

For Michael:
Geronimo Stilton Graphic Novels
-#1 The Discovery of America (this is the one he bought)
-#2 The Secret of The Sphinx (this and the following are bday presents for him)
-#3 The Coliseum Con

Geronimo Stilton Chapter Books:
-#10 All Because of a Cup of Coffee
-#11 It’s Halloween, You ‘Fraidy Mouse!

For me:
-The polka dot book is a journal
-The one beside it is another journal (I love this one the cover is so nice. Picture doesn’t do it justice.)
-This is Not a Book by Keri Smith
-How to be an Explorer of The World by Keri Smith
-The Heavenstone Secrets by V.C Andrews (This is a new series)
-Sophomore Switch by Abby McDonald
-Secret Whispers Book 2 in the series by V.C Andrews
-Such a Pretty Girl by Laura Wiess

-Emily the Strange The Lost Days book 1 by Rob Reger & Jessica Gruner
-Dream Girl by Lauren Mechling

I almost forgot about this one: Wreck This Journal by Keri Smith

While I was cleaning up I found two books that I got for Valentine’s Day. They were: (sorry I have no photo
-The Naughty List by Suzanne Young
-Sweet Little Lies book 2 by Lauren Conrad.

This is what I bougth, what about you?
