Vacation Reading

By the time you probably see this I will have already left for vacation.

I am headed to Chicago, IL. I have googled the directions and I am looking at about a 18 hour drive. Googled said almost 16 hours but I am adding in gas time, bath breaks and stopping to eat. I have to say that this trip won’t be made in one day because that is just crazy and its too long to do it in one day. So the trip is being broke up into two days. Not sure exactly where we will be spending the night.

Anyways I have packed a bag of books to bring with me. I have to say it was really hard to look at my book case and pick and choice. So here is what I am bringing with me:

*Seduced by The Wolf by Terry Spear (I read one of her books last summer on vacation and could not put it down. Ended up reading it in a day. So fingers crossed this one is like that.)

*Rose Sees Red by Cecil Castellucci (Cecil is comig to town in August and I am going to see her.)

    *Death’s Excellent Vacation

The Iron King by Julie Kagawa

    Cross Fire by James Patterson

    *Stash by David Klein

    Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare

I know I packed way too many books as always but I always fear that I won’t have enough to read. Honestly its crazy because I know for a fact I will be able to find bookstores along the way.

The books with this * in front of them are books I am making it a point to read because they were sent to me for review. The others are books I own or borrowed.

Do you tend to over pack the books when you go away?

    MY THOUGHTS
I just recently got this book and as much as I wanted to read it in one sitting, which I could have easily done since its only 185 pages, I didn’t. I took it as reading it one day at a time for 90 days.

I admit I am not an overly religous person and you might be shocked to hear the last time I went to church for a reason other then a wedding, funeral, baptism (Christening) or first communion. Yes its bad.

I am speaking as an adult and I wonder if I was younger what impact it would have? I know there is plenty of young people who don’t go to church or even think about God.

This book is aimed at girls. We all went through what girls of today are going through but we didn’t have cell phones, computers and many other things to distract us.

The book is done in blog format in a girls point of view. Its a personal blog and she is writting to God.

Once I am done with the book I will be writting a more detail review.

(Review) Terry Fox: A Story of Hope

TITLE: Terry Fox: A Story of Hope
    AUTHOR: Maxine Trottier
    PUB DATE: July 2010
    PUBLISHER: Scholastic
    PAGES: 40

SOURCE: I received this book from Scholastic Canada. Thank you Scholastic for sending it to me.

    ABOUT THE BOOK:
“Anything’s possible if you try. Dreams are made if people try.”

From the time he was very young, Terry Fox liked to finish what he started. He always wanted to do his best. So at the age of 18, when his right leg was amputated, he worked hard to recover. Right from the beginning, he was determined to find a way to beat cancer –- for all the children he had met who were fighting the disease. And right from the beginning, he had a dream –- to run across Canada to raise money for cancer research. This is Terry’s story of hope.

The year 2010 marks the 30th anniversary of the Marathon of Hope! This new edition includes extra photographs and updates on Terry’s legacy.

The author is donating all royalties from this book to the Terry Fox Foundation. Scholastic Canada is matching that donation.

    MY THOUGHTS:
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Terry Fox, Marathon of Hope run. To honor this special occasion Scholastic Canada is releasing this special edition that includes 8 pages with updated information about his legacy.

What I discovered before reading this book is that its the very first authorized biography of Terry Fox that is written specifically for young readers. It was created in cooperation with The Terry Fox Foundation and his family.

I was ten years old the day Terry began his Marathon of Hope in St. John’s NFLD on April 12, 1980. I remember watching it on tv and was in awe of him and what he had planned to do. Terry Fox was always a hero to me and still to this day he is.

I have to admit that reading this book was hard to read without crying because this was a person who wanted to make a change and he did. He has raised millions of dollars for cancer research. It was nice to read more about him and to see all the great photos of him growing up.

He went through alot and not once did he ever give up. No matter how bad things got he persevered. He fought until the day he died. He is a Canadian hero that will never be forgotten.

This is a great book and one that will be on our book shelves forever. Its filled with a ton of great pics of all parts of Terry’s life. Which was really nice to see. Its written in a simple form suitable for the younger reader.

    My favorite quote is:

‘Anything is possible if you try. Dreams are made if people try.’

    Vacation Time

Just a heads up to all my readers that next week I will be away on vacation for a few days. I am heading down to Chicago (Naperville) to visit family. This will be my first time there. A few years ago I actually drove through IL with a friend so it will be nice to see Chicago and the area.

Hey if you happen to be in the area and want to meet up let me know and perhaps we could do coffee. If you could leave a message here before the weekend that would be great otherwise I will be with limited (if any) internet access so I might not be able to check emails or blogs.

Specking of the blog, I have a week of stuff planned such as:
-August 2nd (Monday) review (possible) First Wild Card tour of Katy’s Debate by Kim vogel Sawyer
-August 3ed (Tuesday)review (possible) First Wild Card tour of Final Touch by Brandilyn Collins & Amberly Collins
-August 4th (Wednesday) review (possible) First Wild Card Tour of Catwalk on the Runway by Melody Carlson

(The reason I say possible tour is that I am hoping to have that info before I leave for vacation.)

I plan on doing some shopping while I am away because at the end of August I have my 2 year blogiversary so I want to pick up a few prizes.

    Have a great week everyone.
