Secret Santa #2

I thought I would share with you my second and final Secret Santa that I received this year.

The Book Blogger Holiday Swap was hosted by Holiday Swap. I took part last year and it was a lot of fun. So having that positive experience I decided to take part again this year and more then likely I will be taking part next year.
This year I got another new to me blogger and she is Canadian too. Her name is Alita and she blogs over at Alita Reads . I have only read a little bit of her blog and I am enjoying it.
Without further delay let me show you the goodies she sent me. As you can see from the picture I didn’t open the book  right away. That I will share after I tell you what else was include, there was a cute little stocking and inside was a little polar bear ornament, two kinds of teas (Holiday Chai & Christmas Eve), two kinds of chocolates (which got eaten right away) and cute card.

The book that Alita sent was actually one that I have been looking at for awhile but never actually bought or put it on my wish list although its been something that I want to read. Curious to what book it is?

Thanks Alita for sending me this awesome gift. You must have read my mind and thank you to Holiday Swap for organizing this holiday swap.

All I Want For Christmas….

Today I have the honor of having Michael pick out today’s video. He picked this song for a very special reason and that is of course all he wants for Christmas is his two front teeth.

Last night when he was playing out in the snow he lost his other front tooth. He came in the house very upset not because it come out but because its basically lost in the great white piles outside.

I told him about this song and he automatically wanted to hear it so off we went to youtube. We discvered so many that it was hard to pick and choose which one to post. Not sure why he picked this one over the Chipmunks or Disney.

Enjoy

Secret Santa #1

One of the secret Santa’s I took part in this year was the one hosted by
Broke and Bookish. This was my first time taking part in the exchange and I definetly will be taking part next year should there be another one. They did a fantastic job in organizing this.

I have been a follower of their blog for a little while now. If you haven’t checked out their blog you really should hop on over there. They are Jamie and Lori plus twelve other college aged kids who contribute regularly with four guest contributors.

One of the great things about taking part in Secret Santa’s is discovering new blogs and since doing Secret Santa’s I have been fortunate in discovering new blogs through sending and receiving gifts. I love finding new bloggers expecially if they happen to be Canadian.

This year was no exception. My secret Santa was a new to me (Canadian) blogger and since getting her package I’ve enjoyed reading her blog. I want to thank Cassay from Vamps, Weres and Cassay OH My! for sending me this great gift. Thank You!

Here is a picture of the gift Cassay sent me.

I got a copy of the book Sing Me to Sleep by Angela Morrison which has been on my wishlist since I first heard about it. It sounds really good. I also got two of Cassay’s own bookmarks, a beautiful Christmas Card, some Hunger Game tattoos (which were tucked into several places in the book), some Firelight swag (card, bookmark and sticker) and a pretty bookmark.

The bookmark is metal and the center of the flowers all have a bead in them. I love the saying on it “Believe in your dreams.”

Thanks again to Broke and Bookish for organizing this and to Cassay from Vamps, Weres and Cassay OH My! for sending me this great gift. Thank You!

Happy Holidays Everyone!

Local Book Blogger Meet Up (December) and My Birthday

MontrealSkylineNightnew

It feels so long ago since I did a monthly meet up. Actually its been since October I believe because we didn’t do a meet up in November.

In attendance this month was Tina from BookShipper, Avis from She Reads and Reads, Linda from Better With Books and myself. Unfortunately Donna from BooksBound, Amanda from Tales and Treats and Laura from Library of Clean Reads weren’t able to attend and they were missed.

We were a little more subdue this time around but none the less we all had fun. We talked about Christmas and what our plans were, books, blogs and a whole lot more. We talked between sips of great drinks ( I had a pot of spicy hot apple and two pots of hot chocolate) and I ended up having the three cheese plate and carrot cake (that was my birthday cake).

The above picture is the new tea pot with two cups I bought as a birthday gift for myself along with a bag of hot chocolate. The cups and tea pot are black and white and inside the pot is a strainer that fits the pot. I have already broke them in with a nice pot of hot chocolate.

I managed to come home with an ARC of Girl Parts by John M. Cusick from Avis (thank You), a copy of the magazine Book News & Crescendo (I ended up lending this to a teenager that we know who wanted to read it but couldn’t afford to buy it, hoping I get it back) from Tina and the Chapters gift card was a gift from Linda.

Looking forward to seeing the group again in January and hopefully I will have some more books to offer up.

Also today is my birthday. I turned the big 4-0.  I am happy I got to spend the day that way I wanted to and what better way then with friends and books.

When I came home I was taken out for supper and I got some great presents which are all books as you can see from this picture:

264

  • Wolf Fever by Terry Spear (I am loving this series!)
  • The Mockingbirds by Daisy Whitney
  • Eternal and Tantalize by Cynthia Leitich Smith (I just had to have these ones because we both share the same name, not the middle name of course)
  • The Daughters Break the Rules by Joanna Philbin (not pictured)
  • Happy Birthday Bad Kitty & Bad Kitty Gets a Bath by Nick Bruel (some how Michael managed to convince my husband that he needed to get two books as well)(not pictured either)

Thankfully we had some discount coupons to apply to this purchase that we thought we should redeem before we forgot about them otherwise I don’t think I would have gotten that many books.

Happy Holidays everyone.

Scholastic Book Fair 2010

scholastic book fair 1

This is Michael’s third and last year at his present school. The building he is in is called the junior building and it holds kindergartens to grade two (roughly 250+ students) and then he moves to the senior building which holds the grade threes to grade sixes.

This is the first year that the Scholastic Book Fair was held at the junior building (last year it was at the senior school and it was a bust, poorly organized and quite a few upset kids and parents) and I have to say I think the one this year was a huge success.

I volunteered to work this one and of course I couldn’t help but pick up a few goodies while I was there helping out.  I am lucky enough to put three of the books away for Christmas as Michael didn’t really see them all.

Here is what I picked up:

  • The Adventures of Daniel Boom aka Loud Boy (book three) by D.J Steinberg and Illustrated by Brian Smith
  • Bad Kitty vs Uncle Murray: The Uproar at the Front door by Nick Bruel
  • Thea Stilton and the Secret City (Michael actually saw this and wanted it)
  • The Penguins of Madagascar: Zany at the Zoo (this was because Michael did a fantastic job on his report card)
  • No Room at the Inn: The Nativity Story by Jean M.Malone and Illustrated by Bryan Lango
  • Spongebob Squarepants Comic Crazy (which isn’t pictured)

One of my favorite Christmas Decorations

There has always been a rule in our house that no Christmas decorations go up until after my birthday (which is on the 5th). I think that is because my parents never wanted to associate my birthday with Christmas even though its so close.

After the 5th though its fair game and one of the first things that is put up is this ceramic tree that my husbands mother painted in 1979. Sadly, shortly after that she passed away. So this is a special holiday decoration that my husband treasures and we always have special place to it so that we can look at it throughout the holiday season.

Michael has asked about it and we told him that he needs to be careful around this because its priceless and that his nanny made it.

Its a beautiful tree that lights up. Although you can’t really see it in this picture. Its a holiday decoration that is treasured in our house. Do you have a favorite ornament or decoration?

Last Christmas

Welcome to Day 2 and I thought today I would share one of my all time favorite Christmas songs. Its Last Christmas by Wham. When I was looking on youtube for it I realized that several artist have redone it from Hilary Duff, Taylor Swift, Cascada and quite a few others.

Do you have an all time favorite Christmas song?
