When Brie’s stepfather moves the family for what he calls a new beginning, it’s not the new beginning the beautiful, yet guarded, senior would have hoped for. Brie is instantly targeted by jealous girls at her new school, and the only available seat on her bus is next to the school’s star wide receiver, Jake, who for some reason, finds her offensive. After a humiliating article and picture of Brie is posted in the online school journal, a demon she thought she’d overcome resurfaces, and her life unravels. A newly compassionate Jake has finally taken an interest in her, but can Brie learn to trust her heart, or will she miss out on the best thing that ever happened to her?
Jake has his own secrets and has built his own walls, but eventually his curiosity about the new girl gets the best of him. Unfortunately, now there is competition: the captain of her cross-country team. Jake’s romantic histories with the girl next door and the school’s queen bee, adds tension to a simmering tempest when all he wants is Brie. Is he strong enough to help the one he loves weave sense into her crumbling new reality while overcoming his own tainted past? This is an edgy YA with issues of bullying, self harm, and attempted suicide…with an HEA ending.
Before beginning my review I quickly just have to thank Jaime at Rockstar Book Tour for allowing me to be a part of this tour and for sending me a e-copy of the book so that I could give you my honest and sincere review of it.
This was another book I really enjoyed reading and it was a pretty quick read.
Sublime Karma is written in third person which I am not a big fan of but it worked for this book. Its also told in two points of view of our main characters Brie, who is the new girl at school and by Jake who is the football player at the school.
In the very beginning of the book Jake just rubbed me the wrong way and it was due to the fact that I think he thought he was all that and that he was the best. He is the football player and he is in a band called Sublime Karma so that alone I think he comes off a bit cocky. As the story progress I grew to like him.
I really liked Brie even though she was shy. She was the new girl in school and I think she just wanted to blend in but sadly that didn’t happen because she attracted the attention of the popular girls and before long she is being bullied by them and it was rough to read that because you don’t want to see anyone being picked on and sadly its happening more and more in today’s schools.
This new beginning that Brie’s family was hoping to get didn’t go as plan and as scared as Brie was she soon realized that things were going to get a lot worse before they got any better. She is guarded and doesn’t let people in because she has secrets that she would rather keep to herself. What will happen when people find out?
One of the things that left me a little disappointed was I felt like I ended the book missing something, but hopefully there is a book two that can wrap all the loose ends up. Will there be a book two?
After reading this I realized that looking back I think my high school days, yes even though we had issues and drama were nothing compared to what they are today and I don’t think knowing what I know I could be in a high school environment again.
