DIY/ Happiness Jar

IMG_0001

Towards the end of last year I decided that for 2016 I was going to keep track of all the good things that happened during the year instead of focusing on all the negative or bad things that happened. As you know 2015 was a rough year with my father in law passing (towards the end of 2014) and then my mom passing in August and dealing with both estates etc so 2016 has got to be my year.

What is a Happiness Jar?

So with that thought came this Happiness Jar. The purpose of the Happiness Jar is that you are suppose to write down good things that happen to you daily on pieces of paper and put them in a jar, container etc. You can even mention a surprise gift you got, accompolishing a goal or goals, seeing something in nature that takes your breath away, a funny moment in your day, a memory that you want to remember, and the list goes on and on but you get the point right?

Supplies you will need to make your own:

  • a jar or something to put your little notes in (you can buy on jar or use what you have)
  • paper (you can use colored paper, plain paper, post it notes, etc)
  • a pen, pencil, crayon, maker (anything to write with)
  • a label for your jar, stickers etc

I ended up purchasing my items at Dollarama. This was under $5 to do as I purchased the jar, the memo cube colored notes *because they are the perfect size) and a new pen as well as some stickers and a label. I haven’t added those on yet but plan to very soon.

To Begin:

I started doing this on January 1, 2016 and at the end of the each day before bed I sat and wrote one good thing that happened that day and I put that date on the paper. Then you fold it up and place it in your jar. Don’t read the jar until December 31st, 2016.

I decided when I started this that I would alternate the colors just to make the jar a little more colorful although I am thinking I might have to upgrade my jar as I don’t think this will be big enough to hold the entire year without it looking squashed.

Have you ever thought of doing a happiness jar?
