Book Description:

The Debt Collector I pay my debts, and I expect others to.
I was raised in the slums of London, I knew nothing of privilege. My father was murdered when I was seventeen. Morty figured my father’s passing meant I would automatically take on dad’s debts. I refused.

And I paid for that refusal.

So did my sister.

So now I fight. All I know how to do is fight. The best cash is in the states, so that’s where I am now. A big fish called Vito came along offering me a “favor” when I arrived.

Another debt.

I paid for that one too.

I knew Kyla Hensley would be trouble when I met her. But I wanted her. I could see through the falsehood of her wannabe-slutty clothes and her sexy legs. So I chased her.
Besides, trouble is my middle name.

Kyla Hensley, I was brought up in privilege, but I lacked everything else. My father is a business tycoon who buys and sells and doesn’t care who gets rolled over in the process.

I never knew my mother, and all I have of her is a photo with a note scrawled on the back in French saying “I’m sorry.” The only Female Figure I had growing up is my dad’s wife who is a bleach blond with seven boob jobs. We never bonded.

I drink. I party. I meet guys.

But I wasn’t always like that.

I’ve had a string of lovers in the last few years, the worst and most recent of which was Vince Somerset. My best friend Vera was dating a guy called Rory Cansoom who is the opposite of Vince in so many ways, and yet so the same.

She and I hit the road for the summer, getting away from the two college psychos and just trying to have some fun.

But there’s a funny thing about trouble, the more you run from it, the more it finds you.

Which is when I met the Debt Collector.

It was only supposed to be sex. He made that clear. I made that clear.

That’s all it was supposed to be.

I never expected to fall in love. I never expected to fall so deeply, madly, uncomfortably in love with a man who is wrong, so wrong for me.

And yet…so unbelievably right.

Book Spotlight/ Colonel Brandon’s Widow and Willoughby

BOOK INFORMATION

TITLE – Colonel Brandon’s Widow and Willoughby: a Jane Austen ‘Sense and Sensibility’ sequel
AUTHOR – Marianna Green
GENRE – Historical
PUBLICATION DATE – August 2015
LENGTH (Pages/# Words) – 33,000
PUBLISHER – Self
COVER ARTIST – Period Images/ Nancy Design

BOOK SYNOPSIS

Mrs Brandon, the former Marianne Dashwood, is now a widow, and not yet twenty-five.

Her former admirer Willoughby is as unhappily married as ever, and the thought that she is free to marry again drives him to distraction. He has continued in his dissolute lifestyle, which Marianne abhors, while his wife Sophia’s life has been poisoned by jealousy of Marianne.

Marianne urges him that the only possibility of happiness for Willoughby and his wife is for him to give up his empty pursuit of pleasure – but now the Colonel is gone, Marianne finds that she can no longer push aside thoughts of Willoughby easily herself; she must find some way of occupying her own empty hours.

Willoughby retains his rascally charm, which an older and wiser Marianne is determined to resist; Elinor and Edward are as astute as ever, while Sir John and Lady Middleton are as foolish. Mrs. Jennings remains determined to marry off all her associates as before, while Sophia Willoughby is even more sour as the wife of the man she wanted, and Willoughby’s friends are suitably cynical rakes.

This sequel to Jane Austen’s ‘Sense and Sensibility’ strives to emulate some of the light ironic touch of the inimitable style of Jane Austen; it is both funny and sad, and is told as dark comedy.

EXCERPT

‘The union of the Willoughby’s only resembled that of the Brandon’s in being childless. Unlike the latter couple, they had no common interests to compensate, unless an unfortunate tendency to over indulge in wine and other stimulants could count as a mutual source of diversion.

It is true that they did share in common a manner of relating to each other that involved raised voices behind slammed doors, angry silences and periods of cold civility; but this shared inclination brought them no closer together.

It could be further urged on their behalf , that in this conduct, they provided society with the diversion of much talk, and their staff with constant entertainment; – for Willoughby’s confidential valet knew all about his improper pursuits, while his wife’s lady’s maid could recount how Mrs Willoughby had cursed him for a fortune hunting libertine in full hearing of the servants, and of how savagely he had kicked shut her sitting room door before retorting that, ‘Devil take it, in his whole worthless life, he had only cared for Mrs Brandon, and he’d be damned if he pretended anything else to please a scolding…’ But the reader does not wish to hear any more of this.

Seemingly their staff lacked any discretion, and soon enough, the content of the Willoughby’s exchanges leaked out into polite society, which showed still less decorum in repeating them assiduously. Many a man had dined out for a month on his knowledge of episodes that ought to have been cloaked in decent silence, and Miss Steele was one of many maiden ladies agog for the latest outrage.’

Excerpt

“Grayson you have to stop,” I cry out as I grab onto his shoulders forcefully digging my fingers into him. Unable to stop myself, I wrap one leg around his waist, grinding my crotch against his leg to help ease the delicious ache. With the pulsating slowing down, I slow my breathing. Minutes passed, no movements, no sound came from either of us. I slowly start to come back to myself, embarrassment flowing through me. Please tell me I did not just do that.
“Holy Christ, did you come?” Grayson pulls himself away from my breast. I push my face into his chest and nod. “Fuck me…that was hot,” he breathes into my hair, holding me close in his arms.
“What?” I mumble, raising my head to look in his eyes.
“Willa,” he looks at me and runs a hand through his short hair.
“You came from me sucking and tugging on your tits, you were so turned on, so responsive so…”
“So embarrassed,” I blurt out looking in his eyes.
“Willa,” he began as I try to scramble out from underneath him “Wait, wait.” He pins me to the mattress.
“Grayson, I feel like a complete slut right now. I’ve been home for two minutes. Now here I am in your bed where I had a fricken orgasm…happy?” I’m mortified by my behavior.
“Fuck ya, I am,” he grins, pleased with himself. I fall back onto the bed and cover my face with my arm.
“Baby, look at me.” I look into his eyes.
“Grayson, please can we just not talk about it.”
“Willa, you’re not a slut, okay? We’re not strangers.” I keep my hands over my face.
“Baby, stop hiding,” he pulls my hands away.
“That was the first orgasm I’ve had that wasn’t self-inflicted,” I whisper.
“Fuck me…baby I want to see that so bad right now,” he tells me, lust burning in his eyes. I laugh.
“Grayson, please be serious I’m so embarrassed I mean…I told you that…ugh, God.” Could this get any worse?
“I’m more than serious, Willa, the last thing I want to hear is you being embarrassed. You were with idiots, but Willa, I couldn’t be happier right now. I wish I\d taken my head out of my ass sooner. You would have been in my bed a hell of a lot quicker.” What on earth does that mean?
“Are you aware how fucking sexier you got? Didn’t think that could be possible. Knowing that I’m the only one that will ever pleasure you, makes me horny as hell. I’ll be inside of you, tasting you, knowing where to touch you to get you off. Multiple times because I will make sure of it. Jesus, you sky rocketed off the fucking charts, baby and it was hot as hell.” God, his words are vocal orgasm’s, how does he do this?
“I’m sexy?” How is this happening right now, the one man I’ve fantasized for my entire young life has my panties damp. I need to tread carefully with this.
“No, Grayson, this can’t happen. I haven’t been home a day yet. I’m freaking out right now.” Was I that woman? Hopping in his bed and agreeing to be with him. Okay, okay I know he is gorgeous and yes I have loved him forever… shit I have loved him forever. I began to panic.
“Holy shit, Willa, relax, it’s happening, and it’s okay. I’ve wanted you for a long time. When I saw you at the hospital I knew it was time. Time to finally show you how good we could be together. I won’t let you analyze this, so stay out of your head. I promise you, this between us is not bad. Fast? Yes, but not bad.” He pushes me back again and laid on top of me. “God you are so cute, I love that you don’t even know how sexy you are.” Love? Did he say love?
He kisses me hard, deep. His tongue searches for mine in a searing kiss as his hands roam and grope. Our hearts pound from the contact. He feels so good, so right.
“Okay, okay we need to stop.” He sits us back up, causing me to giggle at his frustration.
“Are you hungry? I’m worried that you haven’t eaten.” He looks at me with concern.
“What’s the time?” I ask.
“Eight…you slept for three hours.”
“Gosh I have to get home,” I tell him, jumping out of his bed.
“You’re not going home,” his voice is stern.
“I have to…”
“Willa,” he pulls me close him again.
“I spent three hours curled around your luscious body, felt you, made you cum, and then I find out you haven’t been properly fucked.” I swallow hard. “All this in my bed. If you think you’re leaving, you have another think coming. You will have a nice hot shower, put on one of my shirts, and have something to eat. Lay in my bed curled into me while we both go to sleep and I’ll take you home tomorrow morning…got it?” He is like my hot bath and my black coffee, I was getting sweaty again.
“I could use a shower,” I admit.
“I thought so,” he grins.
Cocky bastard!
I am T.M. Sullivan, and I am a stay at home mom that works from home as a hairstylist, while caring for two beautiful daughters. I am married to an extremely hard-working man who has done nothing but show me support in this venture. Being an avid reader my whole life and enjoying writing when I was younger. I decide to write a story of my own, never did I expect to be in the position I am now.
I love books with a little suspense, love and a whole lot of sexy, demanding men who love hard with their whole heart. Which is why I wrote this one I wanted my men to be every day hardworking men, whether they work in construction, work as a police officer, fireman, even sensual lawyers or business-men, I love them all. My women need to be passionate and strong giving their men a run for their money.
A tiny secret that no one knows, until now: I love stories with an HEA, and cliffhangers kill me. I hate surprises. I’m not kidding; I will read the ending of the book to make sure there is an HEA and if the book is a cliffhanger, I will wait until all the books are out and read them all right after another.
I want to thank anyone who gives my work a chance. I never thought in a million years I would write an entire book on my own, let alone have anyone who chose to read it.

EXCERPT

Her words came out in a whisper. “Thank you for everything. For coming to my rescue, for…” She was saying goodbye, yet her chin tilted toward his and she took a step closer, her lips barely parted, inviting. She peered up at him and met his gaze with a look that was surprisingly heated, decidedly predatory. There was no mistaking it. Melissa wanted him too. That was all the encouragement Stone needed to take her in his arms and bring his mouth down on hers with a hungry desire that surpassed all expectations.

Melissa gasped with delight and sighed into his kiss. Stone’s empty mug slid from her grasp and landed somewhere on the sofa. Stone pressed his eager body to hers and ran his hands up her back, threading his fingers through her hair. She was glorious, beautiful, her gaze sparking with reciprocal passion. Stone groaned and kissed her again, savoring the taste of her, delighting in the sweetness of her body molded to his, as his blood pumped harder and his heart beat like a kettledrum gone out of control. It was more than a kiss; it was like coming home.

“Stone,” she said breathlessly. He opened his eyes to find his cheeks nestled between her palms.

She looked up at him her face flushed with longing. “I think you’d better go.”

“Yeah,” he said, his pulse pounding. “I’d better go.”

Thunder boomed and rain slapped the windowpanes, while the fire hissed and moaned.

Neither one moved.

“Melissa,” Stone whispered, brushing his lips over hers. “You and me… It’s like… I don’t know.”

“I know,” she replied, meeting his kiss. “I feel it too.”

Excerpt
from Under a Mating Moon by Celia Breslin:
A billion butterflies battered Lexi’s stomach. She
shifted her attention from Ross to the piano. Sure enough, the music had
stopped, and Jake faced her from his seat on the bench. Man oh man, the heavy
stare from those sky blue eyes sent shivers skittering down her spine. His gaze
held the same intensity she remembered from him as a kid, as if he saw into the
heart of people, exposing their deepest secrets. It drove her crazy back then,
and she’d spent much time teasing him, pulling his hair, trying to distract him
from being so serious all of the damn time. They were teenagers—partying was
supposed to be their sole focus.

With his ice blue stare locked on her, Jake rose to his
feet, all taut muscle and predatory power. His energy swept over her like a
tsunami, forcing all of the moisture to abandon her mouth while parts much
lower wept with want. Her inner Wolf howled, answering the call of this Alpha,
the first Dominant male ever to make her sit up and take notice. Holy crap. Her
muscles shook with the need to bound over to him, jump in his arms, wrap her
legs around his torso and writhe against his hard, hot, tattooed body.

Jake said something to his uncle then stalked straight at
her, cutting a path right through the middle of the tables and the many,
too-curious patrons.

A whimper escaped her throat.

Surprise sparked in her brother’s brown eyes.
“You’re kidding me. Him?” He burst out laughing. “Wow, sis,
that’s some major, big time irony right there.”

Darci’s expression conveyed her bewilderment. “Now
what are you two talking about?”

Her annoying brother grinned. “See that angry Alpha
headed our way?  My sister here rejected
him when they were teens and he’s apparently her—”

Lexi socked her brother in the ribs. “Shut it,
Ross.”

“Ouch.” Ross rubbed his side and chuckled at
her plight. The jerk.

“Come on, Lexi, you have to admit the hilarity of
the situation.”

No, she did not. Nor did she have to admit that J-Bird
was right all those years ago. He was her mate. O to the M to the G… They
were mates.

Even so, he didn’t look happy to see her at all. In fact,
he looked positively enraged. Shit, shit and triple shit. What a mess she’d
made eight years ago. Well, she was woman enough to pull on her big girl panties
and fix it. She straightened her spine and lifted her chin in challenge,
meeting Jake’s stormy stare. He halted before her.

I can do this. “Hey J-Bird. Nice to see you.”
Lovely. Her voice sounded like she’d eaten the gravel from the lot in front of
Gee’s bar. Embarrassment heated her cheeks.

One breath, two breaths, three… J-Bird glared. Tension
coiled between them in the silence. Lexi bit the inside of her cheek to avoid
babbling at him. She’d said hello. It was his turn. Damn it, J-Bird, say
something. He wasn’t making this easy.

“Alexina.”
His arctic tone dismissed her and slapped her in the face at the same
time, leaving her disappointed and confused. No one called her by her full
name. No one except her parents when she’d done something wrong as a kid. He
might as well have said, “screw you,” while slamming a door in her
face.

His focus shifted to her brother. “Hello, Ross. Been
a while.” His hand shot out to grasp her brother’s in a cordial shake.

“Good to see you, Jake. Join us for lunch? My treat.
We can catch up on old times.”
“No, thank you. I’m done. Nice to see you again,
Ross.” Jake nodded at Darci. “Miss.” He brushed past them and
out the door.

“What. Just. Happened?” The, “I’m done,” he
uttered in his delicious British accent seemed aimed more at her than at her
brother’s offer. And the fact he hadn’t even looked at her before stalking out
all sexy in his gloom and doom? Yeah, that hurt.

“I think you know, sis.” The amusement left her
brother’s face and sympathy glimmered in his gaze. “Question is, what are
you going to do about it?”

She’d never run from a fight in her life. She wouldn’t
start now. “Grab a table. I’ll be back in a second. Or not.” She
ignored her brother’s knowing grin and hurried out the door.

Book Spotlight/ Penguin Random House Fall Sampler

PRHFall2015

I believe this is the second time Penguin Random House has put out a sampler of the upcoming Fall 2015 titles.

I personally love when publishing houses do this because it gives you a sneak peek into the upcoming titles and it allows you to read a little snippet of the book. I have found so many little hidden gems this way.

In this Penguin Random House there is six books highlighted and they are:

Pub Date: January 12, 2016

For readers of Amy Bloom, Sarah Waters, and Anthony Doerr, The Dressmaker’s Waris a riveting work of historical fiction about a woman caught in the chaos of World War II, and the choices she must make to survive.

A powerful, riveting work of historical fiction, The Dressmaker’s War is the story of a brilliant English seamstress taken prisoner in Germany during World War II. It is about her perseverance, the choices she makes to stay alive, and the haunting aftermath of war.

London, 1939. Ada Vaughan is a young working-class woman with an unusual skill for dressmaking who dreams of opening her own atelier. When she meets Stanislaus von Lieben, a Hungarian aristocrat, a new, better life seems to arrive. Stanislaus sweeps Ada off her feet and brings her to Paris. But when war breaks out and Stanislaus vanishes, Ada is abandoned and alone, trapped on an increasingly dangerous continent.

Taken prisoner by the Germans, Ada does everything she can to survive. In the bleak horror of wartime Germany, Ada’s skill for creating beauty and glamour is the one thing that keeps her safe. But after the war, attempting to rebuild her life in London, Ada finds that no one is interested in the messy truths of what happened to women like her. And though Ada thought she had left the war behind, her past eventually comes to light, with devastating consequences.

Gorgeously written and compulsively readable, The Dressmaker’s War introduces us to an unforgettable heroine—Ada Vaughan, a woman whose ambition for a better life ultimately comes at a heartbreaking cost.

For fans of We Were Liars and How I Live Now comes a haunting, sexy, magically realistic debut about a family caught between a violent history, a taboo romance, and the mysteries lurking in their own backyard.

Every October Cara and her family become inexplicably and unavoidably accident-prone. Some years it’s bad, like the season when her father died, and some years it’s just a lot of cuts and scrapes. This accident season—when Cara, her ex-stepbrother, Sam, and her best friend, Bea, are 17—is going to be a bad one. But not for the reasons they think.

Cara is about to learn that not all the scars left by the accident season are physical: There’s a long-hidden family secret underneath the bumps and bruises. This is the year Cara will finally fall desperately in love, when she’ll start discovering the painful truth about the adults in her life, and when she’ll uncover the dark origins of the accident season—whether she’s ready or not.

(This sounds really good and I am thinking I need to pick this up very soon.)

From the award-winning, New York Times- bestselling author of The Monsters of Templeton and Arcadia, one of the most anticipated books of the fall: an exhilarating novel about marriage, creativity, art, and perception.

Fates and Furies is a literary masterpiece that defies expectation. A dazzling examination of a marriage, it is also a portrait of creative partnership written by one of the best writers of her generation.

Every story has two sides. Every relationship has two perspectives. And sometimes, it turns out, the key to a great marriage is not its truths but its secrets. At the core of this rich, expansive, layered novel, Lauren Groff presents the story of one such marriage over the course of twenty-four years.

At age twenty-two, Lotto and Mathilde are tall, glamorous, madly in love, and destined for greatness. A decade later, their marriage is still the envy of their friends, but with an electric thrill we understand that things are even more complicated and remarkable than they have seemed. With stunning revelations and multiple threads, and in prose that is vibrantly alive and original, Groff delivers a deeply satisfying novel about love, art, creativity, and power that is unlike anything that has come before it. Profound, surprising, propulsive, and emotionally riveting, it stirs both the mind and the heart.

(This also sounds really good and I will need to check this one out as well.)

History comes alive in this textured account of the rivalry between Harry Houdini and the so-called Witch of Lime Street, whose iconic lives intersected at a time when science was on the verge of embracing the paranormal.

The 1920s are famous as the golden age of jazz and glamour, but it was also an era of fevered yearning for communion with the spirit world, after the loss of tens of millions in the First World War and the Spanish-flu epidemic. A desperate search for reunion with dead loved ones precipitated a tidal wave of self-proclaimed psychics—and, as reputable media sought stories on occult phenomena, mediums became celebrities.

Against this backdrop, in 1924, the pretty wife of a distinguished Boston surgeon came to embody the raging national debate over Spiritualism, a movement devoted to communication with the dead. Reporters dubbed her the blonde Witch of Lime Street, but she was known to her followers simply as Margery. Her most vocal advocate was none other than Sherlock Holmes’ creator Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, who believed so thoroughly in Margery’s powers that he urged her to enter a controversial contest, sponsored by Scientific American and offering a large cash prize to the first medium declared authentic by its impressive five-man investigative committee.  Admired for both her exceptional charm and her dazzling effects, Margery was the best hope for the psychic practice to be empirically verified.  Her supernatural gifts beguiled four of the judges. There was only one left to convince…the acclaimed escape artist, Harry Houdini.

David Jaher’s extraordinary debut culminates in the showdown between Houdini, a relentless unmasker of charlatans, and Margery, the nation’s most credible spirit medium. The Witch of Lime Street, the first book to capture their electric public rivalry and the competition that brought them into each other’s orbit, returns us to an oft-mythologized era to deepen our understanding of its history, all while igniting our imagination and engaging with the timeless question: Is there life after death?

(This is not my typical read but I have to say after reading the above description I really want to check this book out.)

The latest novel from New York Times best-selling author Jennifer McMahon is an atmospheric, gripping, and suspenseful tale that probes the bond between sisters and the peril of keeping secrets.

Once the thriving attraction of rural Vermont, the Tower Motel now stands in disrepair, alive only in the memories of Amy, Piper, and Piper’s kid sister, Margot. The three played there as girls until the day that their games uncovered something dark and twisted in the motel’s past, something that ruined their friendship forever.

Now adult, Piper and Margot have tried to forget what they found that fateful summer, but their lives are upended when Piper receives a panicked midnight call from Margot, with news of a horrific crime for which Amy stands accused. Suddenly, Margot and Piper are forced to relive the time that they found the suitcase that once belonged to Silvie Slater, the aunt that Amy claimed had run away to Hollywood to live out her dream of becoming Hitchcock’s next blonde bombshell leading lady. As Margot and Piper investigate, a cleverly woven plot unfolds—revealing the story of Sylvie and Rose, two other sisters who lived at the motel during its 1950s heyday. Each believed the other to be something truly monstrous, but only one carries the secret that would haunt the generations to come.

Dominic is a prosecutor, a musician, and an Englishman living in Texas. He’s also a psychopath.

His main goal is to hide his condition and lead a seemingly normal life in hopes to pay off his debts and become a full-time musician in Austin’s  club scene. But on one lousy day his carefully-controlled world starts to shatter: he’s demoted at work and accused of stealing a fellow musician’s song.

He also meets a beautiful woman in a lime green dress–perhaps the biggest threat to his safety of all. At her urging, Dominic hatches a plan to steal a van he knows will be filled with cash. He picks two friends as accomplices, insisting on no guns and no violence. But a security guard catches them in the act and simple theft turns into capital murder.

Cracks start to show in the conspiracy and, with no allegiance to anyone but himself, Dominic has to decide whether to stick by his partners in crime, or let his true nature come out to play.
