Smashing Saturdays #3

Isn’t it funny when you try and plan out things to do before vacation something happens or comes up?

That is exactly what happened before I left for vacation, I was hoping that I could have had something to share with you today in regards to my Smashing Journal but I ended up having more to do before leaving then I thought I did.

I am bringing my journal with me on vacation because that was the purpose of buying the travel one because I know it will be filled with great memories and souvenirs of our trip.

So today I thought I would share with you some of the things that I will be working on that I will eventually share with you.

Katie came up with some topics that we could use in case we got into a slup and they are:

July 6th: Washi Tape (Ways to incorporate it in a page layout)
July 13th: Day in the Life (Smash just one day- only photos, objects, etc. from a single day)
July 20th: Collage (Collage two pages with photos, quotes, buttons, etc.)
July 27th: Color Coded (Just pick one color and do a page using only that color in stickers, photos, etc.)
August 3rd: Journal It (Incorporate journal in your design. Whether it’s on a piece of paper or directly on the page, just write!)

I wrote myself a note with these topics and put it in the journal so that if I have a bit of down time I can actually work on them while I am away.

Smashing Saturdays #2 Another Kind Of Journal You Can Use

Last week I made my very first Smashing Saturday post talking about my essentials that I will be using in make my Smash journal.

During that same trip to Michael’s when I was looking for the Smash journals and items I noticed right beside that display I noticed another kind of journal that you can use to make a Smash journal and its by Recollections and its a Creative Chaos Journal.
Creative Chaos Journey Small Binder by Recollections™
Begin by selecting a binder (small or large) in the theme best suited for your needs. Then add photo insert pages, pockets, envelopes, stickers, journaling cards, and more to your basket. Whether you are a seasoned scrapbooker, a novice at journaling, or somewhere in between, you will treasure your Creative Chaos journal for years to come!

Our Journey/Travel binder measures 19 cm x 22.8 cm (7 ½” x 9″) and includes 36 sheets of beautifully designed double-sided cardstock prints.

The one I got is the small one. I was talking to the lady at Michael’s and she was telling me that she uses both the Smash journals and the Creative Chaos ones. The thing that I like about this one is that its a binder style one unlike the Smash journal were its a coil one.

As you can probably tell this will be my NYC journal and I will be putting all three years of NYC in this one. I also thought that the Smash journal would be better to travel with then this one.

I didn’t go all out on buying supplies for this because nothing was really on sale for it so I just stuck with a package of Dividers (5 in a pack), a package of the Fill in the Story cardstark paper pad, package of airplane stickers (which will be used in my Smash journal) and a package of New York stickers.

Now with that being said you can use anything you want in your journals you don’t have to stick the just purchasing Smash items or Recollections items you can use everything and anything.

Call Me Crazy

I am not sure if I will have a Smashing Saturday post up next week as I am currently writing these posts and scheduling them to appear on my blog (while I am on vacation) before leaving for my trip. I guess it will all depend on what I get down before leaving. If not then I will back post when I get back.

Smashing Saturdays/ My Essentials First Post

When I first stumbled up Katie from http://www.callmecrazyreviews.com it was through her youtube videos and when I realized she was a blogger as well I quickly started to follow her. I don’t recall how long I have been following Katie but it feels like she has always been a part of my blog roll.

Earlier this month she started to talk about Smash Journals and I was intriqued and was so happy when she shared a Smash Jourmal 101 post because after reading that I knew this was something I wanted to take part in.

I was so thrilled when Katie shared her Smashing Journal Essentials because I honestly had no idea what I should get and pick up. So seeing her essentials made shopping a whole lot easier.

The Smashing Journal I picked up was the International one and I was thrilled because when I went to Michael’s to pick up my Smashing Journal essentials the lady was putting alot of the items on sale so I was lucky enough to get everything on sale.

I paid $5.99 for the journal. It comes with a black pen/glue stick that is attached to the book making journaling and adding pictures/souvenirs etc quick and easy. I love all the pages that are in the journal so I am looking forward to bringing this on our trip.

Add a fun surprise to your SMASH design with these K&Company SMASH™ Fish Sliders. Slide open and add a sticker. Includes one slide and three stickers. ($1.89)

Customize your folio with the K&Company SMASH™ Embossed Sticker. Inspired by vintage door-knockers, there is a space under the lion to personalize. Includes one sticker. $1.49 each (picked up two)

These K&Company SMASH™ Owl Sliders are a real hoot! Slide open and add a sticker. Includes one slide and three stickers. Now you know I had to pick this up when I saw it.  $1.29

Elastic Bands perfect to keep your Smash Journal closed. I love that it comes in a pack of two pretty colors black & white and tiffany blue. $1.29

This black and white polka dot band is perfect to put additional pens. pencils, markers etc
$1.99

These K&CompanySMASH™ Plastic Pockets are perfect for securing your favourite stuff in your folio. Includes 5 pockets each with different designs. Approximate size of pockets: 7.6 cm x 8.25 cm (3×3.25 in.), 10.1 cm x 10.7 cm (4×4.24 in.), and 11.4 cm x 15.8 cm (4.5×6.25 in.). $1.29 and I got two of these.

List pads are perfect for when you get into a Smash Journal funk. The ones I got were: Blank , Top 10, Activity, and two Travel ones. These were on sale for $1.29 to $1.49

Then I happened to be in Walmart looking at some craft supplies for Michael to do this summer and I spotted a small Smash display and got another Smash list in Top 10, page tabs that are labelled with I want, I need, to make, to bake and to buy (I already have another Smash journal in mind for these ones), a pack of page tabes that you can fill in yourself and a pink pen/glue stick.

Have you ever heard of Smashing Journals? Does this interest you?

What are you Smashing Essentials?
