(Meme) The Mailbox Post (August 6th – 11th)

Mailbox Monday is a gathering place for readers to share the books that came into their house last week and explore great book blogs. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists.

Mailbox Monday is originally hosted by Marcia  . In the summer of 2010 Marcia decided she needed a change in hosting and didn’t want to rely on one blogger alone to do it because its a lot of work so she decided to put Mailbox Monday on tour and so far with great success it has made monthly stops at more then a dozen blogs and this year is booked until the end.

The host for August is Jennifer from 5 Minutes With Books . This is a new to me blogger and I am super excited to check this blog out.

My fellow Montreal blogger, Tynga is  doing a mailbox post called:

Tynga’s Reviews is hosting this meme and you can check out this link to find out more about it .

Its hard to believe its that time of the week again. Time is flying by isn’t it. There is roughly 2 1/2 weeks left till school goes back.

This week was really quiet in the mailbox. I only got two books in the mail and my Glymm bag.

The two books that showed up in my mailbox was:
~The Next Best Thing by Jennifer Weiner
-Between You and Me by Emma McLaughlin & Nicola Kraus

Also in the mailbox was a sample pack of Quantum Finish dish washing.

This week I ended up buying some books. (yea I know, bad Cindy!)
~Wake by Amanda Hocking (love the cover very summery)
~Bloodrose by Andrea Cremer (this is the third book in the Nightshade series)
~Possession by Elana Johnson (this is the first book in the series)

Then finally the last one I bought was Stalking The Others by Jess Haines (this is the 4th book in the H&W Investigations series). I bough this because my fellow Montreal blogger friend, Tynga has a cameo appearance in this book. I am so excited for her and I wanted to read this book. I just hope that you don’t really need to read the previous four books in the series to follow along.

So that is all the new goodies that came to my house this week. I hope you have a good week. Happy Reading 🙂

I am late in getting this up because I just got back from vacation. We went to Lake George, NY for the week. It was so much fun. We got to see some many of the great sites around Lake George, Queensbury and Saratoga Springs. I have some posts coming up this week that will be US vacation related.

While I was away my neighbor picked up the mail for me and this is what was waiting for me when I got home. So many great packages that I couldn’t wait to dig into them.

The box behind the pile of packages is Michael’s school supplies that was delivered while we were away. Hard to believe there is only three weeks left before school starts again.

The little white envelope was for Michael and it contained lego pieces that were missing from a two kits we recently bought.

This is what was inside those lovely packages.

-Rift by Andrea Cremer (a finished copy) showed up from Penguin. I am on a blog tour for this.

-Feathermore by Lucy Swing. Lucy graciously sent me a signed copy of her first book. Which I loved and I will reviewing her second book next week. I am on her blog tour.

The other packages came  from  James from Book Chic (I have been following James blog from the beginning of my blogging and finally got to meet him at BEA this year). When I saw that James had a bunch of duplicates I quickly emailed him to find out if it was possible to get them if I paid for shipping and he graciously accepted my request. I was so thrilled because a majority of them were books that were being given out at BEA that I missed out on.

Here is what I got from James:
(Finished copies)
-Counting Backwards by Laura Lascarso
-A Farewell to Charms by Lindsey Leavitt (book three in the series)

(ARC’s)
-Don’t Turn Around by Michelle Gagnon (this is her debut YA novel coming out 9/12)
-Black City by Elizabeth Richards (this is her debut YA novel coming out 11/12)
-Venom by Fiona Paul (this is her debut novel coming out 10/12)
-burn for burn by Jenny Jan and Siobhan Vivan (coming out 9/12) I missed out on the signing and was so bummed. The line was huge and I quickly ran over to S&S to see if I could get a copy and was told there was nothing left.
-Falling Kingdom by Morgan Rhodes (this is a series debut coming out Dec/12.)
-The Innocents by Lili Peloquin (this is her debut novel coming out Oct/12)

Thanks once again James I really appreciate the books and the swag you sent. Thank You 🙂

While I was in Lake George we drove about 30 minutes to go to Saratoga Springs because that was the closest Barnes & Noble there was in Lake George. I always try to go to BN when I am in the US although funny enough I never seem to go to BN when I am in NYC.

The first place I always head to when I am in BN is the magazine section but that could be because its right by the doors as you enter. So Michael grabbed the Phineas & Ferb magazine and I grabbed Clean Eating (I love this magazine), RT Book Reviews (I saw this and decided to pick it up. Not sure if we get this in Canada or not but I would be interested in finding out) and finally PW, (Publisher’s Weekly) is one of my favorite magazines that I discovered through BEA. So whenever I am in the US I always try to nab a copy to read and pass on to Tina. I ended up being able to subscribe monthly to PW through my iPad and really like it.

Michael ended up picking up Lego City Build This City! and as we were walking by the bargain books we spotted The Brick Bible and its all done with Lego so Michael asked if he could get this and it was just too cute to pass up.

I went into BN with a list of books only to find out that a good chunk of my list was books that weren’t in paper back yet or they didn’t have them so needless to say I ended up wandering around and picked up a few other books that I heard about that sounded good.

The one book I was thrilled to get was a finished copy of The Land of Stories by Chris Colfer. The book is absolutely gorgeous. I loved the story and I knew once I heard Chris speak and talk about the maps that this would be the one book I would buy a finished copy of.

-Circle of Silence by Carol M. Tanzman ( I read her first book dancergirl and loved it so I was happy to see this one was in paperback)
-Beauty by Lisa Daily (I didn’t realize that this was a 2012 debut novel)
-Where I belong by Gwendolyn Heasley (this takes place in NYC how could I not buy this?)
-A Long Way From You by Gwendolyn Heasley (book two in the series and it takes place in NYC too)
-Times Squared by Julia Devillers & Jennifer Roy (takes place in NYC, does anyone know if this is a series? I saw two other books listed and wonder if I can read as it is?)

While we were on vacation we went into Walmart and I picked up Big nate fun blaster for Michael so that he would have something to do while we were in restaurants and I picked up The Siren by Tiffany Reisz because it came highly recommended by a friend.

Just before leaving I borrowed bump by Megan McCafferty. I have been hearing good things about the book and was hoping to read it while I was on vacation but sadly didn’t get to it.

I also got my July Glossybox so check back this week to find out what I got and what I thought of the box.
So that is all the came to my mailbox this week. I hope everyone has a good weekend.

Happy Summer vacation to all the kiddies out there.

I feel so bad not posting much this month but its been crazy busy here and it feels like I am in a blogging slump for some reason. I am reading books but when it comes to sitting and posting I am not that motivated. I am hoping that being on a little family vacation next week will motivate me once I came home.

I am sure once school starts (August 29th) things will get back to normal with me and blogging. I have decided this summer that once school starts in the fall that I will only be volunteering one day a week in the school library. I love being the library but I realized that doing two days was a little much.

As you can see it was a very quiet week in my mailbox this week. I got no books to review. Nothing!!!

I did get a package from  James from Book Chic (I have been following James blog from the beginning of my blogging and finally got to meet him at BEA this year). He sent me Origin by Jessica Khoury. He got a duplicate of the book and I so wanted to get this at BEA but when I went back to Penguin I was told there was nothing left so I was a little bummed at first. So I was thrilled when James was giving away this and contacted him right away. Thanks so much James can’t wait to read this.

This week I bought two books. One is for Michael and its Around The World in 8o Mazes. We picked this up for our trip. Its a great back seat book and should keep him entertained for a bit.

I picked up Frommer’s New York State for our trip next week. We have plans on going to Lake George, Saratoga Springs, Albany and a few other places. Although I am seriously thinking that New York City is only 3 1/2 hours away. LOL

So that is all the came to my mailbox this week. I hope everyone has a good weekend.

Happy Summer vacation to all the kiddies out there.

You are probably wondering what has happened to me since I haven’t been posting alot lately, summer is busy for us with swimming lessons four days a week and various library activities that Michael takes part in. Plus now that he is home on summer vacation it seems like we are fighting for computer time. I usually let him on during the day while I am doing other things. Then in the evenings I am so tired because we are currently in a heat wave and I am not a summer person. The heat is sucking the life out of me.

Right now I am in the midst of reorganizing my bedroom and purging on stuff that is no longer needed or used. Plus throw in back to school shopping  and getting ready for vacation. Thankfully we are able to squeeze in a little get away and we will be heading to New York state which is just a few hours away for us. Hotel is booked and plans are being mad on what to see and do.

This week for review I only got one book and that was Venom by Fiona Paul. I want to thank Penguin Canada for sending me this and check back later on because I am on a blog tour for this with Pazorbill.

This week I bought one book (this was at Walmart so how could I resist?) Fated by Alyson Noel and I also picked up these two book marks the What a Hoot! is mine and the hockey one is Michael’s.

Freebies that came to my mailbox was the Poligrip sample for my mother and I also had to go to the dentist for a cleaning and came home with the standard supplies of toothpaste, floss and a toothbrush. The other toothbrush is Michael’s. Since it sat so quietly while I got a cleaning they gave him a toothbrush.

So that is all the came to my mailbox this week. I hope everyone has a good weekend.

Happy Summer vacation to all the kiddies out there.

Is it just me or does it seem like summer is flying by?

It was a quiet mailbox this week and I think that’s due to the fact that it was Canada day on Sunday and the mailman are slowly getting back to work. Its hard when there is a double long weekend in Quebec.

This is the books I got for review:

-Rift by Andrea Cremer (This is coming out August 2012 and I am on the Canadian Blog Tour for this. So excited and now that I have the finally book in the trilogy I plan on doing a little mini read-a-thon and reading them all in a row.) Love the cover

-Inescapable by Nancy Mehl (This sounds really good and I love these kind of books)

-Charming Blue by Kristine Grayson. (This is coming out in September and this is another series I am loving)

This week I didn’t buy any books and avoided the bookstores. Yea I know hard to believe eh?

The freebies that came to the house this week:
-Biore  combination skin balancing cleanser (7ml)
– Since we were at lenscrafters we got 3 premoistened lens towelettes
-Then in the weekly flyers there was a 9ml Tresemme Shampoo and conditioner for split remedy

My sister graciously ordered The Celestial Seasonings freebie for me and it included a Van Houtte french vanilla iced coffee, one classic iced tea and two lemonade iced tea k-cups. I remember doing it for me but I never got the freebie so I am happy she got it. I have been wanting to try the iced coffee and ice teas for a while now.

So that is all the came to my mailbox this week. I hope everyone has a good weekend.
Happy Summer vacation to all the kiddies out there.

Can you believe that this is the last week of June? I am so excited because its a long weekend here in Canada. Although the down side of it being a long weekend means that there isn’t mail on Monday and since this past Monday was a long weekend in Quebec we are slowly getting mail. So its going to take them awhile to get back on track.

This is the books I got for review:

-Waking Storm by Sarah Porter. This is the second book in the series in the Lost Voices Trilogy (Thank you Thomas Allen for sending this.)
-Only One Life by Sarah Blaedel. (Thank you Pegasus for sending me this. I was happy to get a copy since I missed the event in NYC)
– Size 12 and ready to rock by Meg Cabot (a huge thank you to harper Collins US. I think I am on a blog tour for this. I have read the other books in the Heather Wells series and was happy to hear Meg had written another book.)
-Beach Season by Lisa Jackson along with Cathy Lamb, Holly Chamberlain and Rosalind Noonan and I am on a blog tour for this one.

This is the books we bought:

So I ended up buying some books this week. Two are for Michael and they were Paper Planes that really fly (he loves making paper airplanes) and Pokemon Black and White Vol 8 (he loves these graphic novels) and he wanted the stanley cup bookmark.

For me I got:
-With My Body by Nikki Gemmell ( I saw this on someone’s blog recently and the review peeked my curiousity so I bought it. Yea I know shame on me right? LOL)
-Beautiful Chaos by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl. This is the third book in the Beautiful Creatures series. I wanted to get the third book and get the series read before Margaret comes to Montreal in the fall.
-Lost Voices by Sarah Porter, This is the first book in the Lost Voices trilogy.

This is the freebies that came to the house this week:

I have the above pictured labelled so I am sure if you click on it the picture will enlarge. One thing about the tea sample is that is Sarah Blaedel’s favorite tea as well as one of her characters favorite as well. I thought that was a great promo.

Happy Summer vacation to all the kiddies out there.
